A supportive and positive experience

I felt looked after from start to finish of the moving process. Gemma (Sales) and Silke (Lodge Manager) could not have been more helpful with support, advice and availability. They introduced me to existing residents, who were all very friendly, explained the moving process, the guest room booking, and helped with minor problems such as setting the water temperature and letting in someone to measure for blinds before I moved in.
Jackie from Move Assist was brilliant at helping me manage the transition from a four bedroom house to a one bedroom apartment, deciding what to take and what I wouldn’t need, and how to pack up.
Very pleased with how smooth everything was and very happy in my new home.

Clive Hammond - Marlow apartment

I was made to feel very welcome and treated in a professional and kind manner. The apartment was to a high specification and on the day of move spotlessly clean. Jackie and Beverley, the Churchill representatives were extremely helpful and made me feel welcomed. On the day of the move their support was exemplary. I am very pleased with my Marlow apartment and the overall service provided by Churchill’s.

Lodge Managers

Trust Pilot One.
Just one reason why you should think hard before you purchase a Churchill retirement apartment.
Churchill Living, control the management of the buildings via C.E.M.
When a Lodge Manager is appointed, the residents have no say in the matter, and we are not asked for opinions during the trial period even though we pay the wages.
This is what we have to put up with.
L.M. installed plug in air fresheners, listed as a fire hazard by Churchill, throughout the building.
L.M. carried out an emergency light test then leaves for Christmas holiday without putting them back on.
L.M props open a fire door with a chair due to magnetic closer problem, then unlocks a fire door to leave free swinging despite ‘Keep Locked’ sign.
Following a dispute over smelly sticks on stair well, LM placed a strong smelling air freshener, clearly labelled ‘keep away from heat’ hidden on top of a stairwell light fitting.
Comment from Regional manager was “ can you return the air freshener to the L.M. please”?
No chance, retained as evidence.
Emergency Light with red warning light was left for more than a week before it was pointed out to LM who eventually took action. This should have been spotted on daily walk through.
Damaged electrical junction box with exposed wires pointed out to LM. This was a plastic junction box fitted on concrete at the edge of the car park. Had been run over and broken more than once. Repaired 6 weeks later.
Smoke vents opened by LM on a Thursday morning and left open over night and all day Friday and still open when LM went home on Friday evening. Careline notified at 17.15 on the Friday. LM arrived Sunday morning to close them and accused a resident of leaving them open.
But of course, a Churchill employee can do no wrong so yes, she still works here and not one apology given for all the faults, accusations and errors and even promised reports never arrive. Yet we, the residents have to pay for this.
Is it not time that Churchill provided a level of management that has some knowledge of safety for residents? Further to this review and following the response from Churchill. I would suggest that the person who responded should really get all the true facts before they accuse people of giving abuse.

We are very disappointed to read this feedback and we are sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction. The safety and wellbeing of owners is always our top priority, and our Lodge Managers work very hard to maintain a safe, sociable and friendly sense of community at our developments, taking care of the day-to-day running of the building so that our apartment owners can spend more time doing the things they enjoy. Where possible, we work with owners to enhance their lives, ie, social activities taking place at the development and the agreement with owners made in 2022 regarding the AOV vents to which you refer. The wellbeing of our staff is also very important to us, and we would suggest that any abuse, harassment and unacceptable behaviour towards our Lodge Managers is unlikely to enhance the service they provide. We would encourage you to take up the offer to meet with our Regional Manager to discuss the concerns you have raised.

Bourne Lodge

The prospect of moving to retirement living was very daunting for my mother-in-law, but Churchills, and especially Lisa Paulley (sales executive), were extremely helpful and explained everything to us comprehensively. We had a few blips along the way, none of which were down to Churchills, but Lisa dealt with them all and made the whole moving process as easy and pain free as it can be. She was always accessible by phone or email and if a query couldn’t be answered immediately it was looked into and feedback given straightaway. Lisa was approachable, considerate, understanding, friendly and fun every step of the way. We had lots of questions and were in regular contact so we certainly tested her!
The lodge itself is a new build and we were kept fully informed of progress. The individual apartments are very well thought out, with an easy to use panel system for contacting the lodge manager, other residents or the helpline. A communal area provides a friendly and safe socialising environment.
We are very impressed with our Churchills experience and cannot recommend highly enough. The cherry on the cake is how happy mother-in-law is in her new home. Thank you everyone, and Lisa Paulley in particular!

Lovely new Lodge Manager

Here, at Blenheim Lodge in Amersham, we have a new Lodge Manager. Kate is still in her probationary period, but she is proving to be a very valuable kingpin. Things get done very promptly and efficiently; she keeps us all informed about on-site contractors; she is always available for a quick chat; she spends time with those who need it; and she is always smiling and friendly.
Blenheim Lodge is 20 years old and there are 30 apartments. Some have 2 bedrooms, most have 1, but no two apartments are identical. It's and element of individuality that I appreciate. A 20 year old building tends to start to produce more problems, but I think it's doing well. However, the small car park may produce issues.
We don't have a monthly meeting, but we do have a weekly coffee morning that Kate attends. Once she has settled in a little more, she intends to produce a newsletter.
I have only been here since the beginning of April, but I have been made most welcome. I have asked lots of questions of the other residents and received very useful answers.
Churchill itself is slow. I have yet to receive my service charge - I have called twice but I have yet to receive a call back. The Area Manager Tony was here for a budget meeting and he was able to answer most of our questions. On Monday my boiler had to be replaced by Gledhill, who were great, but that expense may have wiped out the service charge money - we'll see.

IMPROVING AND LONG MAY IT CONTINUE

Churchill has now been managing Waterford Court for just on a year, it hasn’t been without problems due to them inheriting a culture that needed a lot of work. One year on we are now starting to see improvements, yes we still do not have a permanent lodge manager but from a personal point of view this has not been a significant problem as Paul King our Area Manager supported by Frank Keenan has ensured that if anything we are being provided with a better service than previously.
So just to say thank you and please keep up the good work, the last couple of months have felt like a breath of fresh air, hopefully our new Lodge Manager will ensure we can continue to rate Churchill Retirement highly.

Cooper lodge Frinton On Sea

Cooper lodge Frinton On Sea
My wife and I moved to our Churchill living apartment 5 years ago. The development consists of 40 self-contained apartments in a good location, just over 5 minutes’ walk to the seafront. A pharmacy, and a Doctors Surgery are also very close by, and Connaught Avenue, Frinton’s shopping street is also in walking distance. Frinton itself is a lovely place to live, and has just had good reports by Which magazine and also in a recent Times newspaper article.
The Owners have regular social activities arranged by the Social Committee such as Coffee Mornings, Keep Fit, Bingo, Quiz Nights and Knit and Natter, all are friendly here. People join in as little or as much as they want to. There is a lovely guest room for friends and relatives to stay when visiting.
Cooper Lodge has a lovely garden well maintained by some fantastic gardeners. Our windows are regularly cleaned on the outside, and the cleaners keep the owners lounge and communal areas spotless.

Andrews Lodge in Lymington

Andrews Lodge in Lymington. Visited and used the guest suite as our friends who are residents were getting married. The whole place was an absolute delight to be in. Ty n e guest suite was large and spacious with comfortable beds big fluffy towels with tea and coffee facilities. Our friends flat is delightful and they are very happy there. The lodge manager Jo was lovely nothing too much trouble and went above and beyond the call of duty to arrange our friends residents drinks in the lounge a few days before and then made all the cup cakes for the wedding.

Unsafe and uncaring

In April, my Mum had a serious fall, cracking her ribs and cutting her head open. She pressed her emergency pendant several times but got no help as she wasn’t close enough to talk to Careline through the intercom. My Dad, who has advanced dementia, tried to talk to them but they ignored him. Eventually, in desperation, Dad dragged Mum to the intercom. They promised to send an ambulance immediately.
Luckily my sister arrived and she was also reassured an ambulance was on the way.
THEY SAT UP ALL NIGHT AND NO HELP CAME!
The next morning, my sister called 999 and an ambulance arrived in minutes.
Churchill have denied they did anything wrong!
This was meant to be a place of safety for my parents and it has been anything but.

We are very sorry to hear about your mum’s fall, and we’re disappointed to read your comments. We take complaints like this very seriously and have looked into this incident in detail. We can confirm that an ambulance was called immediately by our Careline team, within 2 minutes of the activation, and regular welfare checks took place until next of kin were on scene. Unfortunately, when the ambulance called the scene to triage further, the answers to their questions from a family member on scene resulted in the ambulance being stood down. Careline Support are not responsible for the ambulance service and have no control over whether they attend or not. As soon as Careline were notified that an ambulance had not arrived, we called 999 again to have the call re-assessed, as we felt an ambulance to be necessary. An ambulance then attended shortly afterwards. We take the safety and welfare of our owners extremely seriously and we are confident that Careline followed the correct procedure and did everything in their power to get the right help in this case.

Taking advantage of the elderly

My mum had a bad fall and pressed the Churchill provided careline emergency call. They called an ambulance but sent it to the wrong address because their records were not up-to-date. Then they cancelled the ambulance, failed to do wellness checks, called another ambulance, and then later failed to follow-up with my mum for several days.

After we complained their response contained misstatements about timing - including providing us with a log of calls that was not complete, lies about the home manager being on holiday and general obfuscation.

The care centre manager actually had the confidence to tell my sister that she "only looked after the building" and that the residents "weren't her problem."

We'd have moved my mum but the secondary market value for these properties means taking a huge haircut on the price. Sold at 400k, and now worth no more than 350k 3 years later. Only idiots build property that goes down in value.

Lockyer lodge Sidford

Lockyer lodge Sidford
Stayed in guest suite as we did 2 years ago.
Lovely views of the fields from the well set out and very clean lounge area. There is a couple of book shelving units which are really nice.
The lodge manager Aziza was very friendly and helpful.
Bin room was very clean.very clean throughout the lodge.
The Byes walk to Sidmouth and back is very pleasant and scenic if you are fortunate to do it.
A bus stop right outside really helps for those wanting to go into Sidmouth it on the other side of the road to Honiton or Seaton.
The owners were very friendly that we met.
Still hoping that enough interest can be shown in starting a Book Club to get local authors in to talk to them.

Riverain Lodge

We have recently completed our purchase of a flat in Churchill's lovely riverside development in the centre of Taunton, Riverain Lodge. The journey here, via our sale chain, has been down a long and often rough road. So it is just as well that Aimee Clist, Churchill's very able and tenacious representative, has been there to smooth out those bumps with intelligence and good humour. So, thank you Aimee: we believe we are going to be very happy here - and the good news for you is that you will now see us all the time!

Our major move in our twilight years.

My wife and I moved from Cornwall to Riverain Lodge in Taunton on 28th May 2025. During previous viewing visits prior to our move, we were introduced to Helena, The Lodge Manager. Those moments helped quell any apprehension we may have had over our big move. The Lodge Manager would always be an important person in our future, and Helena's warm and friendly personality played an important part in our decision to make our future as residents of Riverain Lodge. Helena's presence and knowledge of the Lodge and Taunton, continue to help us adjust and settle. She is a gem!

Worthington Lodge in Hythe

Worthington Lodge in Hythe is exceptional due to the manager Liz who goes above and beyond her duties to help all the residents here.
She really is the heart of the community and cares about her residents. Regularly organising events and coffee mornings to get residents together
It is a lovely atmosphere here
The apartments are nice but plumbing leaves a lot to be desired as does the hot water system but it is in an excellent location near bus routes and shops with the sea and canal nearby for lovely walks
The car park is tiny but as the buses are outside it is not a problem
A very nice place to live.

Special Thank You

I would like to say a special thank you to Michelle Hird the Lodge Manager at Gilbert Lodge Beeston. She has gone more than the extra mile for me during the last 10 months to help with settling my aunt into her new apartment and the trauma of her having to go into the local Care Home for respite care. Michelle is an excellent, caring Manager who deserves a 5plus star review. I would also like to thank Tracey Kent who enabled the purchase of the apartment to go through very smoothly and quickly and again she also went the extra mile to be helpful. Thank you both
