I've used the company for a number of years now. Never had to make a claim but taking out the policy has been very straightforward. They seemed a great company. That is until I had to make a claim for a fairly minor scratch to the bodywork of a car I rented.

On the 28th of June I followed their instructions and made a claim.

On the 23rd July I followed up as I'd heard nothing back whatsoever, and the turnaround time is suppose to be 15 working days.

On the 25th July carhireexcess.com contacted me to say they'd requested a callback from the insurer.

I never received the callback, have just contacted them again to be told they aren't the claims team but they'd forward my details for a follow up. No mention whatsoever of the promised callback or why mu claim has taken so long.

I'd genuinely use the company with extreme caution. Great at giving out policies. Claims though....

We're on holiday at the end of the month and I'm using another provider for the first time in many years.

This company wowed me! They were extremely quick and professional when some Italian car company accused me of something I hadn't done. Someone had scratched a door of the hire car when I was in a car park. The claim was dealt with perfectly with no fuss. I could not believe how quick they were processing the claim and have now advised my family to use them for all their holidays. I would encourage anyone to take out their excess policy when hiring a car abroad. They are absolutely brilliant.

I have been using this excess company for years, upon making an actual claim at the end of May, all I have been able to get from these people is “please rest assured someone is looking into this claim”. Really straight forward and easy to make a booking but when you actually have to make a claim it is ridiculously difficult. This company is a scam, DO NOT cover with them. Pay the extra and book directly with the rental insurance company. So disappointed. Won’t be buying insurance again.

Staff at Dublin Airport and at car pickup(both SIXT) were extremely helpful
The cost was great value for money and a real nice spacious car
The information said pick up would be at Dublin Airport which was false as it was a shuttle ride from airport and I think this should be made very clear as both I and my passenger are elderly
