Outstanding Customer Service

First off, my call was promptly answered by Rachel M. and she immediately offered to assist me. I had a customer who purchased a Byrna LE Launcher. The magazine became stuck in the gun. Rachel offered advice on how to remove the magazine. The advice worked. But upon inspection, it was easy to determine that the magazine had a flaw in the spring and screw attachment. Rachel said that she would immediately send an email with instructions on what to do next.

I took pictures of the magazine documenting the issue and submitted to Byrna.

Later in the day, my customer returned with another problem. A bolt and nut had come loose and fallen out. I advised Rachel of this second issue.
Long story short, with Rachel's assistance, Byrna offered to send a replacement magazine and said that they appreciated my comment's regarding loose bolts and nuts. Rachel said that she would pass on my comments to Quality Control. But Byrna remedied the situation immediately and without any hassle.

Perhaps that best part of this unfortunate situation was the way Rachel handled my issue. The positive points were:
1. My call was answered immediately.
2. Rachel offered sound advice on how to remedy.
3. When the root cause of the problem was determined (flawed magazine), Rachel offered to send a replacement.
4. Throughout the several day process, Rachel would answer my e-mails almost immediately.
5. Rachel acted as if she truly cared about the situation and wanted my customer to be satisfied with the solution.
6. When one thinks of Customer Service, Rachel demonstrated how First-Class Customer Service should be done. I think that Rachel "sets the bar" in her field.

Byrna Launchers are a great product. I have sold many of the LE and SD models. Until this time, my customers never had a negative experience. The Launcher is so popular in my area that it is sometimes difficult to keep them in stock.

Having the Customer Support Service provided by Rachel simply reenforces that Byrna wants to make a great product and they absolutely stand behind their products.

As a Dealer I am very pleased to sell Byrna products. And, I have many very satisfied customers.

Overpriced garbage - Pellets burst in gun

Overpriced garbage. Novel idea except the pellets burst in the gun leaving you with a toxic chemical spill to clean up and yes this is nasty stuff if it gets on you hand. I've had 3(three) pellets rupture three different times in the gun (clip) while the gun(toy) was in a hard holster in a laptop bag in the back of my motor home. Not being tossed around or abused. Also I'm not sure how they are arriving at the FPS numbers but these things are weak. Anyone with a jacket on is going to keep coming at you unless they stop to breath this crap in.

Poor quality, not reccomended

Had the hand gun for less than a 2 years, shot it only hand full of times, the pistol started jamming on me and is miss firing, the trigger is getting stuck. Was told to send it in but there will be a Charge for the repairs. Not happy with the purchase, would not recommend, also the gun when it works is not very accurate, the bullets go in different direction each time you shoot.

I know nothing abt fire arms so i was very fortunate to speak w/Maria. She was full of information & knowledge! Most of all, she was so patient no matter how many (probably) dumb questions that i asked and how many times i probably repeated the same questions. After our conversation, i came away knowing exactly what i wanted to purchase whereas before i was completely clueless. I am in her debt & very grateful. She deserves a raise or an extra wk of pd vaca or both:)
Also, i spoke w/Maria more than once. After speaking w/her the first time & as a day or so went by, i had more ?s & when i clld bck, I got Maria again! Unlucky for her hving to put up w/me again but very lucky for me!!:)

Maria was extremely helpful

Maria was extremely helpful. I found I was doing so many things wrong. I had a wrong understanding of which projectiles I was to use for what, and why. Why some can be stored in a magazine for quick use when needed. I thought wrongly after reading instructions that no projectiles can be stored in a magazine and I wondered how I could ever possibly be ready in an instant when needed. Oiling issues, help with setting up my warranty. I did not have a purchase order number on my receipt. She sent videos of how to fold my target tent (unfortunately I still need the videos she sent since my Linux operating system did not show the videos just the words and a blank where the video should have been. I have replied to make sure I do get access to the videos anyway. Still needing to learn how to fold my target tent back into the circular bag it came in. She helped with so much that I felt I had sooo much more understanding, clarity, and ability to use my new bryna SD so much easier. She was SO helpful. Thank you for giving such wonderful help! The phone assistance cleared up misconceptions about videos and directions and Maria was perfect for what I needed.

Poor seals on CO2 cylinders. Defect.

The Bryna company advertises home security and safety. The literature does NOT disclose a serious weakness. The CO2 cylinders are a weak point. I used the Bryna for wild animal control. And fired a few times. When I was surprised by wild animals the Bryna would not discharge. I "discovered" that the CO2 cylinders DO NOT SEAT WELL, and the seal allows the CO2 to leak within (per Bryna 24 to 48 hours). This renders the "technology" worthless for home defense. In order to have a "useable" deterrent for home protection you MUST NOT have a punctured cylinder in the product. When I reported the problem, I received weak excuses including that if one "stores" punctured cylinders in the product you must keep the entire product pressurized.
Those of us familiar with CO2 powered products understand that seals protect the integrity of system. BE WARNED OF THIS PRODUCTS DEFECIENCY for the protection of your family.

I have been asked to edit the review after reading the Byrna reply.

The equivocation and evasion of the ISSUE is obvious to any reader. Rather than blame the user and assume a lack of understanding, it would have been HONEST to address the issue. The Byrna seals are a problem for a successive use on the same cylinder.
What Byrna advocates in their lame reply is a procedure calling for disposal of a cylinder after a single shot is fired. EXAMPLKE to aid Byrna in understanding: Assume a "user" fires a shot at preditory animals on Friday night. But Saturday morning the coyotes come back...Per Byrna, the "user" must replace the cylinder after a single shot. Its not a double trigger pull issue. Its a bad seal. The user can double pull to pierce the "new required" cylinder. And solve the seal defect....or Byrna can fix the defect and advertise HONESTLY. Remember I asked about the longevity of the cylinders BEFORE purchase and what I was told was FALSE.

Reply from Byrna Technologies

It seems that unfortunately the customer does not understand how Byrna’s patented “pull-pierce” technology works and why it is needed. Most of the statements in this review are incorrect.

The customer states Byrna said "If one "stores" punctured cylinders in the product you must keep the entire product pressurized." This was not said to the customer in any communication from Byrna and is not a correct statement. Byrna specifically states in the owner's manual to not store the launcher with a punctured, pressurized CO2 cylinder for extended periods of time. An unpunctured CO2 cylinder can be stored inside the launcher indefinitely.

One of the most important things that sets Byrna’s handheld launchers apart from the competition is Byrna’s patented “pull-pierce” technology. This enables the Byrna launcher to both pierce the CO2 and fire the projectile with the first pull of the trigger.

Why is this important? It is important because it allows your Byrna to sit for days, weeks, months or even years and still be ready to fire on the first pull of the trigger. Most other launchers pierce the CO2 cylinder when it is loaded. Once pierced, the CO2 in ANY air powered weapon will start to leak out, fully discharging over the next 24 to 48 hours, leaving the launcher inoperable. This does not indicate that there is a "bad" seal and those familiar with CO2 powered products understand this is just the nature of CO2 powered weaponry.

The alternative is not to load the CO2 until it is needed, however, in that case, the launcher will not be ready to use when it is needed. It is like carrying a gun without bullets in the magazine or like trying to put on your seatbelt before a car crash.

With the Byrna, the installed CO2 cylinder is not punctured until the trigger is pulled. This means you can leave your launcher fully loaded knowing that it will always be ready to fire when needed on the very first pull of the trigger.

We always recommend after firing the launcher, to remove the punctured CO2 and replace it with a new one to ensure the launcher is always ready to go at a moments notice.

Byrna encourages the customer to please call our Customer Service team at 978-868-5011 if they still need more clarification on how the launcher or the "pull-pierce" technology operates.

In response to the edited portion of the review:

There is no defect in the Byrna seals. The Byrna launchers are not tested on animals and are not designed with the intent to be used on animals as pest control.

In a self defense situation against humans, we strongly recommend installing a new, unpunctured cylinder, even if that means not using the rest of the CO2 from the previously punctured cylinder.

If a punctured cylinder is left in the launcher, the CO2 may have leaked out and the launcher would then not work, which happens with ALL CO2 powered weapons. This punctured cylinder may still have CO2 left the next time you attempt to use it. However, why take that chance when your life could depend on it?

Byrna is not aware of what double pulling is or how that would solve any perceived issue. The CO2 cylinder is punctured any time the trigger is pulled whether the launcher is in "Safe" or "Fire" mode.

To prevent the most common issue with CO2 powered weapons (leaking CO2 from a punctured cylinder,) Byrna's pistol launchers are designed to be stored with an unpunctured CO2 cylinder installed. They can be deployed immediately with one pull of the trigger without worrying if the CO2 has leaked out. This provides peace of mind knowing it will always be ready to fire when you need it.
