Highly recommended. Fantastic helpful staff, transparency in prices, clarity on the benefits of buying the Premium insurance, flexibility on returning car to a different location. Last minute great decision to rent a car.
We arrived for the day off of a cruise ship. We wanted to rent a car for a few hours to drive down the coast from Split. Avax was quick to deliver what we needed. The car was newer and drove extremely well. The staff were professional and friendly. Our overall experience was excellent. Highly recommend Avax rent a car.

Very unpleasant and unprofessional in Split.
Very unpleasant and unprofessional experience with Avax Rent a Car at Split downtown. Hired a car in Dubrovnik, paid the premium insurance which supposedly covered all damage to the car. Car got a flat tyre near Split. Was told to bring it in and they would replace the car. When I arrived, they said I could only have another car if I paid MORE insurance. Showed them their contract which states any replacement car has all the benefits carried over from the original hire (including insurance). Manager was very rude and refused to give me the replacement car without me paying the insurance AGAIN for the remaining days. Emailed the complaints department at Avax, but they have not replied to my email or refunded me the money they fraudently charged me. Beware - looks like they are happy to rip off tourists and ignore their own contract.
Edit to add - Amazing! Only days after leaving a negative review, Avax is able to respond on here, but almost 20 days after sending a complaint to their official email address, still no response. I think this just goes to show the level of customer care by this unprofessional company. Then again, why am I surprised? They clearly make up rules as they go along (nothing on 'insurance only covers one event' in the contract. In fact, the wording of the contract is quite clear that this is NOT the case), so why should I expect them to respond within 15 days as per the automatic response I received? Carry on Avax, you're doing a great job proving to everyone how terrible you are.
Edit, edit: sure Avax - why don't you confirm the email address I should reach out to you on? I'd hate for my email to get 'lost' again, or you have some other 'technical issue' which prevents you from receiving it. Or will I be ignored again?
Final note; Ignored it is - I think this sums up Avax's customer service perfectly.

During your rental period, the vehicle was returned to us with two instances of damage, in addition to the flat tire. As you had opted for premium insurance, this coverage was applied to the original vehicle for the scratches and flat tire issue. When a replacement vehicle was provided, as per our policy, premium insurance covers only one major damage incident. Therefore, for the new car, you were given the option to leave a deposit as security, which is standard practice in such cases.
Regarding the interaction with our team, our officer Vedran has an excellent reputation and has not received any complaints in his 10 years with Avax Rent a Car. We regret if there was any misunderstanding or if you found the communication unsatisfactory. We always strive to provide professional service to all of our customers.

Very good and fair car rental
I highly recommend the car rental. We were looking for a rental company that doesn't require a credit card and deposit because we didn't have a credit card. We decided on Avax, it was enough to buy only premium insurance without any deposit/cards.The service is very nice and contact with the agent and the rental itself was provided all the time. In the future, when we are back in Croatia, we will definitely decide on Avax again. The car we received was practically new with very low mileage, it was well-kept and clean inside. I highly recommend it, there's no hidden cost. Thank a lot for good rental experience 🙂!

Simple and Painless Experience
Fantastic experience dealing with Eugen and Avax. We flew into Zagreb and picked up the car at 1.30am, our flight was delayed an hour but that was no problem as Eugen was tracking the flight.
Before arriving there was clear information via WhatsApp on where we'd meet and a video of the car so we knew what we were looking for. After a couple of signatures and payment we were off in 5 minutes. Before we left Eugen made it clear if we had any problems or questions to get in touch any time, day or night.
On the day of returning the car we were provided with an exact drop off pin which made heading back to the airport much less stressful and Eugen was waiting for us there even though we were early.
Another signiture to say we'd handed the car back and everything was done.
If you want no hassle car hire I'd definitely recommend them, no stupid deposits or holds on funds, no mileage limits or other nitpicking small print.
Will definitely be using them next year.

Great value for money, very good communication with AVAX. Car was very clean and in very good condition with no faults . Car return was easy and with a lift to departures after drop off. We rented a car for a day at Avax for our trip to the Krka National Park. We loved the experience. Rino, an associate at Axax, was extremely helpful to explain the process, walk through, and return. I wish every car rental was like this
This was probably the smoothest car rental experience ever. We made the reservation online, went to their airport office, gave our IDs, paid and were good to go. No deposits (although we paid for extra insurance which was quite affordable and recommended), no hidden fees, no scams. We even delivered the car after office hours and just left the keys in a locker, without extra charges. We searched a lot for car rental companies in Croatia and most of them were demanding big credit cards deposits, crazy cross-border fees or excessive pricing. Avax had none of those and we were extremelly happy with our decision!

A smooth experience with Avax
We had a really smooth process with Avax. Elvira was really helpful, getting in touch by WhatApp a day before we arrived so we had her contact details. She was waiting for us at the terminal in Split and took us to their office (a 5 minute drive away). We dropped the car back with Petra in Dubrovnik which went equally as well. We had the full insurance cover, which meant they took it back without an inspection.

After reading all the horror stories…
After reading all the horror stories online about car rentals in Croatia I was really doubting to rent a car. However after I found Avax (Split airport), I was really convinced. They were online all the time to answer my questions while I was booking. At first sight it looks more pricey than other car rentals but after reading the reviews from those places it was definitely cheaper at the end. Didn’t need to leave a deposit with full coverage, the transfer of the car went very smoothly and quick. The car was super clean and new. They were very responsive, flexible, available and nice! The car pick up is 2 mins drive from the airport but they picked us up and dropped us off again at the airport. Overall the experience was really good. If i ever go back to Croatia again, would definitely rent here again. Definitely recommend!
