This was my first time renting a car for Auto Rent. The process was almost perfect. A couple of minor observations, but nothing that would deter me from using them again. The positive - the process was extremely professional (as good or better than some of the large companies), the pricing is very competitive (I loved that their CDW insurance was very reasonable), and finally the cars are relatively new and as advertised. On the negative, they do try to up-sale other insurance products. I was questioned why I wasn’t taking the glass and tire protection. Portugal seems to be an extremely safe country. I didn’t feel it was necessary. And finally the drop off at the airport is a bit of a hike. I understand that the airport probably controls the location of these spots, but I don’t understand why the drop off shuttle can’t drive to the terminal for their departing customers. Maybe there’s a reason that I’m not aware of.

The staff was friendly, efficient, and had everything ready. They picked us up and dropped us off at the airport with no hassle. In fact they were waiting for us. The price was exactly as quoted and there was no pressure when I declined the insurance. Drop off was just as easy. They were wonderful and I would absolutely rent from them again.

Friendly, honest and professional company to rent a car from. Never had any problems in the years we have continually booked our cars here. Wouldn’t go anywhere else!

Efficient clean lovely staff!

Helpful people making renting a car simple and reasonable. Far and away the BEST place to rent any vehicle in the Algarve! We only wish they were in Lisboa as well...

Autorent in Faro in my experience are efficient and professional.
They rented me a Seat Ibiza at a very reasonable rate and were helpful in changing it to an automatic when one became available.
When I changed over it was a new contract and there was no problem with the toll charges.
I was enjoying driving the Skoda Kamik when I was hit in the back by another driver at a roundabout.
I called Autorent and they were extremely kind, understanding and helpful in explaining what needs to be done.
The car will be changed tomorrow and I am completely confident that it will be sorted correctly.
I can’t rate my dealings with this company at Faro highly enough. Long may it continue.

Autorent Algarve it´s a great Car Rental Company. I have uses them for several years and I have never been disappointed. You can trust both the staff and the company🙌🏻

Rented a car from these guys in 2020 and got a ticket recently for unpaid toll charges. Paid extra to AutoRent for a toll transponder to deal with the toll charges and still having to pay a fine 4yrs later because autorent failed to pay. Contacted the company and giving all excuses under the sun apart from taking responsibility. Just stay away!

Read a lot of reviews about different car companies. We only had a good experience with Autorent by Faro Airport. All deposit was returned and we were not forced to buy any extra services.

Caution! Total scam!
We rented a car and paid extra for a little device so we could use the motorway.
Weeks after our journey we had to pay 58€ fine and we were accused of having driven on the motorway without such a machine. On my credit card the 3,80€ for maut tax were charged. And yet we had to pay 58€ on top because the company didn’t accept our credit card proof. Never again! We were fooled by the cheap prices. Now we know how they are able to have such cheap offers.

Rented many cars from these guys. Just got a fine through from motorway company for unpaid tolls in 2020!!! Auto rent confirmed we had a tag in the car and advise that it’s a mistake and we shouldn’t have been given a fine for not paying. Reality is, this is not my problem and Autorent have given my details to the debt recovery company. Will never use again and have had to pay for fines that are caused by autorent. Very disappointed

The guys at the counter need lessons in customer service. Our car broke down 20 min away from the pick up on the way to our condo. Called the service number to let them know that a) we were stuck, unit shut down while driving Cel and battery light shut it down and that B) we were in the middle of nowhere on an 85 degree day with no water or a/c. Their response was 90 minutes for a tow ( after 4 repeated questions did i have the clutch to the floor, no it magically drove 20 kms!!) and that I would need to remain with the car and once and only once the tow arrived would they call a cab. I made several suggestions like i would pay for my own cab to either go back and get another car or take to condo and they could drop a new there. I was told that was not possible and that if I left the car I was negligent and responsible for all cost, that was their policy. No exceptions. After 4 calls with tow driver and taxi driver they finally showed up with one more ask of did i have the clutch in to start it. Back to rental office to get another car where i had to wait in line again. Instead of being empathetic that after an overnight flight from canada and wasting 4 hours of my first day the guys behind the counter escalated the situation. No im sorry that this happened to you , let us get you on the road. Their response was and this is an exact quote, Its not our fault cars break down, we dont build them I spent 31 years working for the worlds largest truck rental company and a response like that from one of our employees would have been termination for them. There are only 2 parties in the transaction Myself and the company and if its not their fault they are telling me the paying customer that its my fault. Completely useless customer service. They also refused to offer any discount for lost time or anything at all. All I can say is im glad i took the full insurance coverage as I could not imagine what kind of rip off artists they would have been with any damage with their attitude. Price is right but service horrendous.

Wish I could do zero stars, rude uninformative staff. Our €1200 deposit has still not came back into our account

This is our 2nd year using Autorent and it won’t be our last. Pickup and drop off so smooth and easy. We took the extra insurance to cover all eventualities and it was well worth it. Didn’t have to leave credit card deposit and gives great peace of mind. I also got a 10% discount for being a repeat customer. So easy with no hidden costs or agenda. Vehicle was in excellent condition and was very spacious (9 seater) and came with 1/2 a tank of diesel, staff are also very friendly and courteous. Hopefully will return next year and will definitely rent with Autorent again.

Do not Book with this company!

The drop off to the car drop off doesn't open until 8am - so anyone on a morning flight should be weary of this as they use this to con you out of €40.

This is 2km away from the airport!

As we pulled into the drop off area the man in the office deliberately walked out off the office and locked the door and waited for us to walk to the door. Then pointed to the sign to say they were closed. I asked if there was a drop box and he said bluntly no and that if we wanted to drop the car now it was €40.

I asked if I could leave the key with him and I would just walk to the airport. He said if i did that i was then abandoning the car and they would charge me the deposit of €3200 euros.

The manner he delivered this message in was both rude and arrogant. It was almost as if he enjoyed putting his customer in this position, his English was very good so nothing to do with language barrier. All this happened in front of my 13 year old son.

It wasn't this really the money - it was the attitude of the member of staff - horrible way to complete your business with a client and on that basis i wouldn't ever book them again.

On a side note - they also showed a picture of Mercedes 9 people carrier when I booked and when i collected the car it was a Citreon - Not quote the same quality or brand.

Fantastic car hire. Smooth transaction from start to finish and very competitive. We used auto rent faro and a lovely guy was there to pick us up. It is offsite but only a few minutes drive and it’s well signposted to find on the re turn of the car. No hidden extras or charges and my credit card was refunded within 2 days of getting home. Would definitely use them again. Thank you

Excellent value car rental and smooth process. It's an off-site pick up and the minibus transfer is an inconvenience compared to on-airport but well worth the value. The guy brought our initial car out and said it sounded a bit odd so swapped us for a brand new (7km on the clock!) car. Pick up and drop off all very smooth. I booked the additional excess cover through agent and had no issues.

Charged money without explanation

I had driven to Lisbon and paid toll roads

But since returning I have been charged additional fees without any explanation, albeit small amounts

This was my second time renting from the company. I cannot fault them, great cars, and courteous staff, they must be one of the best car rental company in Faro. I base this view on previously renting from 4 other companies in Faro. Thank you Auto Rent, i shall look forward to my next visit.
