My Experience with AYOM (2019–2025): Unreturned Funds, Poor Accountability and Outstanding Payment of £12,839.21 + £1200.00

I have delayed writing this in the hope of a resolution. Unfortunately, despite repeated attempts to engage AYOM, the matter remains unresolved.

2019: AYOM’s frontline officer demanded a £1,200 “collection charge” upfront and required me to sign an invoice which, in tiny print, stated that my signature meant I had accepted AYOM’s terms and conditions. No hard or digital copy of those terms was provided at the time.

2021–2022: AYOM recovered £500 and remitted only £275 to me—without explanation—contrary to assurances that their fees would be recovered from the debtor and that I would be paid in line with the County Court Judgment. AYOM subsequently recovered a further £3,300. Later, when the debtor sought to pay £10,000 directly to me, I acted in good faith and asked him to route it via AYOM, given they had already commenced recoveries.

Outstanding balance: As at today, AYOM still owes me £12,839.21 plus the £1,200.00 refundable deposit. In June 2024, AYOM’s Director of Operations stated that a payment of £7,136.00 had been “attempted”, but no evidence was produced when requested.

Communication: I have sent over 70 emails and 10 letters to AYOM without a meaningful response. My most recent email, on 06 October 2025, again asked AYOM to deduct their charges and pay the balance. Instead, AYOM unilaterally declared the case closed.

This prolonged situation has caused significant distress and has adversely affected my mental health. In my view, AYOM’s handling of this case falls short of the standards of transparency, lawful conduct and customer care that customers should reasonably expect.

What I am seeking:

A full, itemised statement of all sums recovered, fees applied, and monies held; and

Immediate remittance of the net balance due to me (after any contractually agreed charges).

AYOM should urgently review its governance, documentation practices, and customer service. A transparent reconciliation and prompt payment would be the right first step.

Be careful: AYOM wont pay what is owed

I was initially impressed with AYOM. They contacted the debtor and arranged a payment plan. AYOM has had the money for over a year without paying me the balance and is not responding to any emails or complaints asking when the balance will be transferred to me.

Be very careful before using this company - very good initially to get you on board but won't actually pay once they have collected from the debtor.

Not as good as they claim

On their website they advertise they will get your money back & only charge 15% of the money they do get back. When their collections people tell you after 10months of to and fro the only other option is to go through the court you think ok then. Imagine my surprise when I receive an invoice saying they will take the £360 they have managed to get back over 10months - the debt was £1559 - & charge you collection fees of over £1000. Guessing there will be two court cases incoming...

Use small claims court

If they owe yoo money you should go small claims court, use the gov.uk website...
They are a bunch of crooks and you will not get paid...we did this and after 2 years of chasing they emailed an out of court settlement just before court hearing..
Don't just read this ... do it now...

Cowboy Company.

I won my case through the courts but the person refused to pay. I contacted AYOM and ask them to collect the money owed to me. This took them two years to finally obtain the money from the debtor in April this year. After contacting AYOM several times they are refusing to send me the money. I am now considering taking AYOM to court to get my money from them. What a bunch of crooks they are. I did warn them that I would be placing a review on Trust Pilot, but recieved no answer from them.

What I was promised wasn't delivered

What I was promised wasn't delivered. A handful of letters, one or two phone calls and a constant stream of pathetic sms's to the person who owes me money.
I was told AYOM were tough and ruthless but clearly they are simply masters at sending "please pay up" text messages.
Furthermore, they fell for the lies the convicted fraudster I am trying to get my back from told them.

Poor communication, portal doesn't work

After I involved AYOM my client paid my debt direct to me within 3 weeks (11 months late!)
I think AYOM probably did make a difference - according to their portal they contacted my client several times before my debt was paid... but I had to log into their portal to see that they had done this (after I got paid)!
When I was paid I messaged them immediately through the portal but got no acknowledgement. 2 months later they contacted me directly by email to say my client was insisting that they had paid... I confirmed that was true and that I had already told AYOM so! Apparently they had no record of my portal-based communication...
I don't feel I was kept well-informed of the progress of my case, nor do I think that their portal really works as a way of managing their cases or communication with stakeholders.
Noticeably they were very quick to invoice me for their commission once they realised my debt had been recovered, and they charged me VAT which is annoying as I am not VAT-registered. So effectively I was charged 18% commission. Bear that in mind.
But I did at least recover 82% of the money I was owed almost a year after the work I did, and AYOM did regularly contact my debtor to try to recover my money (even after I had been paid) - although I only have their portal records to prove that.

Awful company

Awful company. They were responsive while collecting the debt for me and have been silent since the funds have become payable to me. They have had the funds for nearly a year. Can't speak to anybody on the phone and nobody is answering emails. I will be commencing legal proceedings against them. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. SCAMMERS

Lies delays and rudeness Stay away never use them

I have used them for my company to collect debit from a client of mine, they have mentioned they have 15% compensation, which is what i was aware of.
If i never chased i would never know they have already collected the debit and they have never informed me. i called them to try and get that money, they said its only customer service who you can talk about this with which you only can reach via Email...(they haven't responded to any of my email after two weeks of waiting)

Called again Sherene was the one on the phone who didn't like me asking about my money and hanged up on my face with no further notice she wasn't in the mood to talk i guess but that was so rude i never experienced such thing in my life and i was shocked with such a behaviour.

after a formal complaint they said they keep it for 28 days, which was already past, i tried to understand when will i be paid, the answer was the same after 28 days and then added might takes up to 120 days so they make sure the client doesn't refund it from the bank?? another thing i was never aware of, now i am in the process of disputing it hopefully it doesn't go to court eventually but its a possibility

Very bad experience, it wasted more of my time than saving it, i would've been better off chasing my client my self.

Waste of time really

I first contacted AYOM over 5 years ago - over a small debt from 2 people. After months of 'trying' they stopped the search for 1 of these people, and were collecting payments from the other.
Whenever I get in contact my 'case manager' is always different - they never know anything about the case or have any updates.
I spent a lot of money to hire AYOM - money which was very hard for me to save up for - and so far they have barely claimed anything back for me.
I wonder how many other customers they do this to. Really disappointing.
