Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 34 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many customers found the pricing to be excessive, with some feeling that the charges were a rip-off and not commensurate with the service provided. Reviewers frequently reported issues with customer service, citing unresponsiveness, delays, and a general lack of helpfulness, with some even experiencing calls being hung up on them. There were also numerous complaints about product-related problems, including missing items, damaged goods, and packages being opened and not correctly re-packaged. The delivery service also received mixed feedback, with many experiencing significant delays, missed deliveries, and parcels being returned to the post office despite customers being present. However, some people were satisfied with the delivery service, noting impressive delivery windows, fast and efficient service, and reliable on-time deliveries, even in rural areas. A few other people also felt that despite the high prices, the service was still cheaper than alternatives and worked well if rules were followed.

I got a replacement On Post delivery…

I got a replacement On Post delivery box for my old one Very bad quality a powder coating finish So chipped after a few years I wanted to give it to my daughter So thought it was just a matter of giving them her postcode to attach inside box I was told know they couldn’t do that A new box is €90 so thought I would save her buying one They could paint it probably nothing a bit of primer and paint wouldn’t solve So my only option is to put it in my bin or take to recycling centre! On Post aren very environmentally friendly are they ! I was told they could collect it off me if I wanted I said no it was mine I paid for it I just wanted to pass it on as box works fine and such a shame to dump it in bin I was told to send in letter of complaint to GPO I am fuming with On Post They need to sort this out😡

Excellent Service with Minor Customs Hiccup

AddressPal is a reliable and convenient service for shipping items from the USA to Ireland. Delivery is usually very fast, typically taking about a week from dispatch to arrival.

However, I've encountered some issues with the accuracy of customs declarations handled by the team in Englishtown. To address this, I email customer service with my tracking number as soon as I receive it. The customer service team is very responsive and promptly sends the necessary information to Englishtown, which has helped streamline the process.

Overall, AddressPal provides a great service, and despite the minor customs hiccup, I’m satisfied with their performance.

I would absolutely never use address…

I would absolutely never use address pal ever again. Found an item I had been searching for for quite a while being sold at an auction. Family outside of Europe were at an auction and came across some shoes I had been looking for while visiting for Christmas but couldn’t find. They got me the shoes for next to nothing but the problem was US international shipping was quite expensive so I asked instead for them to ship the shoes to my US address pal so that I could pay the international shipping from there myself. Item was delivered about two weeks and I still hadn’t heard from address pal so I contacted them to discover they had lost the item for 2 weeks. The shoes cost $10 second hand and the shipping to address pal cost $8, so I was very surprised to get an email asking me for basically €100 duty as well as the address pal shipping fees. The shipment was delivered to address pal with the declaration of price and also that it was a gift. I already knew address pal are not a gift delivery service so I expected there would be import fees, no problem but they purposely removed the declaration and packaging so that revenue could charge me whatever they wanted in import fees. An post manages import duties and vat for revenue, they manage tv licences etc, meaning its in their best interest to fraudulently misrepresent the price of items being imported and in return revenue finds more services to outsource to an post. Awful practice and I won’t be using an post or address pal again. Rachel the customer service representative for address pal had absolutely no interest in rectifying the problem even after being shown the transaction statement from the bank showing the auction value as well as the parcel arriving to them with the value and status declared on the shipment. Never again.

Dysfunction...

(original review date 12-4-24)
An Post and AddressPal's dysfunctional behaviours in this matter are disgraceful - they have demonstrated minimal interest in delivering a timely resolution to an internal bureaucratic log jam which has badly delayed the delivery of an urgently required spare part.
AddressPal on 12-4-24 emailed a mistaken and possibly illegal demand for VAT on importation of an item which was supplied free of charge under warranty - this from a well established UK supplier.
They seemingly failed to properly read the invoice which clearly stated this.
We shortly before had paid VAT through AddressPal when importing the original example of the item which turned out to be defective and valueless.
We by email provided AddressPal with a second copy of the invoice (which is clearly marked warranty/that no payment was made for the replacement item) and with copies of the email correspondence in which the supplier had agreed FOC replacement under warranty.
We also linked and pasted in the relevant section of the Revenue.ie page which explicitly states that VAT is not chargeable on FOC warranty replacements.
We on foot of this asked that they cancel the VAT demand.
AddressPal replied to the effect that they had 'escalated' the matter. Quite why what should have been a simple decision required escalation we have no idea.
Questioning of the agent established that 'escalation' did not (as implied) entail taking the matter up with a more senior person that could sort it out - that they had instead just lobbed an email into the (from prior experience in attempting to resolve customs problems with regular incoming international mail) black hole that is the An Post incoming customs section...
We're by now well over a week and two follow up calls in with no indication of when or if the matter will be resolved.
Our property is de-facto impounded.

Update at 29-4-24
17 days in and still no response of any sort from AddressPal or An Post - entirely the result of their inability to process the enquiry in a timely manner.

Update at 25-5-24
More than six weeks have passed - our package remains in the hands of AddressPal/An Post.
AddressPal far from progressing the 'escalation' committed above by their agent or providing a justification as to why VAT might be due on an item which was supplied as a free of charge replacement under warranty (the Revenue website seems to state clearly that VAT is not chargeable on such items - but we have throughout been ready to pay up if evidence was produced to show that this situation is somehow different) emailed out of the blue last Wednesday as follows:
'The item has been held by the customs and due to unpaid customs charge it will be returned to the United Kingdom.'
No mention was made of the previously promised review/escalation - it felt very much like a crude attempt to get the matter off somebody's desk.
We called AddressPal again. They seem de-facto to accept that our case is legitimate in that another agent (after attempting to have us contact AnPost customs directly) talked again of escalating the matter within her own organisation to get it sorted out.
We at her request the same evening again copied the previously supplied documentation to her.
AddressPal seem at agent level so far to have been unable to raise a response from the AnPost customs section - unsurprisingly based on our previous experience with them which led to our using AddressPal in the first place.
They seem equally reluctant to escalate within their own organisation to force the necessary review of the decision to charge VAT in this case.
The result is that our delivery is caught in a dysfunctional bureaucratic limbo.
We hope but have little confidence that AddressPal will now sort the matter out and are resigned to loss of the goods.
The action left to us is perhaps to decide whether or not to seek redress elsewhere.

Update and last word at 13-6-24 (9 weeks later)

Further exchanges with an AddressPal agent finally led to the issue of a revised demand for duty from An Post - this time for legitimately due VAT on we think just the cost of shipping with the item valued at €2. They applied a €3.50 admin fee.
We paid and the item was delivered this morning.

We won't be using AddressPal again and are closing the account.
AddressPal staff within call centre limits are broadly helpful and the service is fine when it works.
The situation in our experience becomes very different when matters arise which require action from An Post to resolve...

Shockingly poor service

Shockingly poor service, very careless when goods are shipped in two batches with the same invoice, charged double by customs due to how address pal completed the documentation. If you don’t pay the charges the goods go back, I’m 7 months appealing for a refund with no joy. You can’t talk to anyone and emails are answered slowly.

Returned sweater to Aran knitwear!!??!!

Returned sweater to Aran islands knitwear for exchange to different size. All covered and able to be checked in parcel. Cost £16 to return and then AN post imposed a customs charge of euros 20.23. Sent them email questioning the charge 12 + days ago and still no response.
Told by Aran islands knitwear best to pay charges plus A n post “admin fees” to release item and then try to claim customs back!! NO WAY.
Bad for Irish trade. Will not buy from Irish company again.
21march finally got reply. Wanted original invoice tracking reference from Aran Islands knitwear and copy of exchanges with supplier to have item re-evaluated. Sent this information to get their standard very busy at the moment don’t send more than one email etc. what am I supposed to do but send a reply giving them info requested. Said all that they had requested was in the “soft” parcel with the labelled sweater.
Wouldn’t have thought I was the first to return and they could have easily opened the parcel and re-sealed to check. No wonder they are very busy of their own making. Guess it will now have to wait a further 3 or 4 weeks for a reply!!
UNBELIEVABLE UPDATE 6 April my original parcel was returned to me !!!!! Label RETURN CN15(b) REFUSED BY CUSTOM. My customs declaration on the parcel has returned goods ticked.
Summary Soft parcel addressed to Aran Islands Knitwear declared as returned goods has duty imposed. I question this and told by AN Post to send copy of order tracking number from AIK and correspondence with them on exchange. All info. sent that same day 21 March. Then have my parcel returned to me 6 April.
EXTREMELY PATHETIC - what do you do with an outfit like this? Not good for businesses in Ireland.

Pretty poor experience 2 times

Pretty poor experience 2 weeks in a row .
1 package from the Uk was left sitting in Addresspal UK with no updates for 48 hours, constant issue most likely a delayed processing reduction in fees for them. Website not updated

Next week goods
coming from America, better updates In America then a black hole for 5 days . Then the goods were sorted wrong in Dublin and sent to galway by their error.

So 15 mins waiting for their support chat

To be told "just wait"

Appalling service and complete lack of customer support. Shocking

AddressPal has been great for me

AddressPal has been great for me. As someone who orders frequently from the UK and US, I was always quite taken back by the extortionist fees and customs complications. AddressPal takes care of all of that. 6.50 from the UK and 15.99euro from the U.S. makes it so much more affordable than other options and most importantly, packages arrive in Ireland promptly. A truly great service!

Customer Experience

It's unfortunate to see some negative reviews of AddressPal, as it's evident that a few individuals may not have fully understood or adhered to the correct criteria when using the service. While I respect the opinions shared in other reviews, it's important to provide context to ensure a fair assessment of the service. AddressPal aims to offer a reliable and low cost solution for shipping items from the U.S in my case to Ireland. It looks like negative reviews may stem from instances where individuals didn’t provide their Full account number and didn’t realise that the U.K as well as the U.S is outside the E.U and customs fees on items entering into Ireland is now an everyday fact. Don’t ruin the service for the rest of the happy customers using the service because of others lack of understand of the requirement of ordering items from outside the E.U. A small medium weight postage item from the U.S can cost up to $70 to post compared with the starting price of €15.99 for Address Pal. Big savings as well as all the customs paperwork completed, believe me, this is a huge plus in getting items in from abroad, especially from retailers that don't or won't ship to Ireland because of the customs paperwork involved. 5 stars for me for the hassle free experience.

Dishonest, rude behaviour, non-existent service

Whenever I buy something online and see the delivery company is going to be An Post, I hang my head in despair. I know I will eventually have to jump through hoops to collect my items from a depot.

An Post loves to pretend they have tried delivery yet are unable to actually ring a door bell. Heaven forbid they use a phone! I can't wait for the delivery boys to be replaced by artificial intelligence. Although that would imply there is any intelligence to be found at An Post in the first place, which is not the case.

In any case, after them failing to deliver I contacted An Post online. I chatted to someone called Jordan who told me my item was at An Post at Tuam Road, Galway. I paid a taxi to get me there, only to be told it was out for delivery.

When I told the lady behind the counter "the service of An Post is poor" her exact verbatim response was "I couldn't care less". Which sums up the problem, doesn't it?

In any case, I went home and again contacted An Post online since the tracking had not yet updated. Lo and behold, my item was NOT out for delivery, it was back at some or other depot outside of Galway.

Really An Post? Could you be any more useless?

Lackadaisical Attitude

Spoke to two customer service agents - they both seemed tired and uninterested - no vim, nor vigour and left me wondering if my issue (a) was interesting to them (b) they got it sorted.

Oh well - we shall wait and see but I was singularly unimpressed, having been a customer service agent myself.

It used to be straight forward even with brexit now i receive a text for an additional seven euro on a package that was arbitrarily labeled as worth 15 euro its not worth near that much! it was second hand hair dye on vinted that was USED!! and now there is an additional handling fee to be paid and why they don't update the address pall to include that in prices is beyond me. do not recommend better off going up north and getting it yourself for these prices. very upset not worth it!

Terrible customer service. Talk on chat they tell you to call a number. Call and they hang up after 45 minutes waiting. Send an email you get a response 2 weeks later. They are terrible. I don't know where my package is. I wish I had never dealt with them.

Terrible customer service

Terrible customer service! I had an issue with the delivery and I call the contact center and a very unhelpful staff member answered and basically didn’t want to deal with my query over the phone and asked me multiple times to send it in an email and when I asked what the difference was in me saying it on the phone versus emailing it she said she was too busy! She had a terrible lazy attitude and wasn’t helpful at all!

Terrible service delivery and customer service, I'd never choose them if I had the option

This is the third time I have had problems receiving my orders when they are shipped through An Post, and this issue only happens with them (impressive). They claimed they attempted delivery, but there was no one, which is not true. My boyfriend and I work from home, and if they came and rang the intercom, there was always someone available on those days. Customer service is deplorable; they say they will investigate the situation and get back via email, but they don't follow through. The information provided is also unreliable

Very slow service taking months for deliveries

I have had very good experiences with AddressPal over the last few years however the service has gone downhill this year I am very disappointed deliveries are extremely slow waiting months for items and I am not getting confirmation that they have received my items- there are obviously problems with the service - I hope the service will go back to what it was. Also received a charge of 65 euros for 2 blouses from the Uk that were worth 120 euros still waiting for items that was two weeks ago. Wrote to them twice to find out about the high charges never heard back I will not be ordering clothing again from the UK - the postal service is obviously not keeping to its delivery times - very disappointed
