Highly recommended

Highly recommended! They really have your back. The only time I needed to make a claim, it was straightforward and quick, and I received my refund without any hassle. I honestly never rent a car without having their excess cover in place — it gives me complete peace of mind.

Fraud

Despite me explicitly declining all additional insurance and stating I had my own coverage, the agent added 'Super Personal Accident Protection' to my agreement without my consent. Most concerningly, when I questioned the higher price at the desk, the agent deliberately misled me by claiming the extra charge was a 'refundable security deposit only.'

I specifically asked if my final bill would match my £139.27 booking with Rentalcars.com, and the agent lied and said 'Yes.' This is fraud. I only realised of the overcharge when I received my invoice. Europcar branch in Cambridge is intentionally tricks customers very likely to meet their sales targets, avoid at all costs.

AVOID AT ALL COST

AVOID AT ALL COST! – SCAM! I was unlucky that my CC didn’t work, I had a debit that I used to pay the deposit, they told me they will take the payment in EUR which I didn’t mind as my Debit offer me transactions in Euros w/o fees, then in invoice I see they have taken the money in GBP with a very immoral Exchange rate + 2% Exchange Rate MARK-UP. They also made a “mistake” at the pickup and made a note of damage in the wrong side of the car, this was a little scratch that cost €330 EUR, furthermore two weeks later, when they paid me the differences back, and due to bad exchange rates plus the MARK-UP, they returned my deposit -£342.32 GBP for €330 EUR charges stated on the invoice (this is with a GBP/EUR@ 1.15), in addition to this, 150 EUR of the 330 were logged as an “administration fee for the loss of use of the car due to repairs”, they know that private car hire insurances wouldn’t cover clients under this concept, and they told me in advance if there was an incident my insurance wouldn’t cover me in full, they used this argument to encourage me buying their insurance which cost several times the total price of rent the vehicle- They catch your attention with a price quoted that is too good to be truth but you end up paying double the price for one of the main companies – TRICKSTERS

Hello Noe,

Thank you for contacting and sharing your experience with us.

With regards to this issue please note that we usually recommend customer to use the credit card. However since many do not owe a credit car we also offer the possibility to rent with a debit card. But in this case we can not block the deposit so it has to be charged.

We do not control the bank fees nor the commissions.

With regards to the damage please note that in order to pick up a car it is compulsory to block a deposit on a valid credit card or, as an alternative, purchase our additional cover. Our staff will always inspect the car after each use and will mark the damages on the check-out sheet, however, we always ask customers to double check it before leaving our facilities. This way both parties are aware of the existing damages before departing. On return, if our agents find damages that were not marked, they proceed to investigate and, if it's considered that they occurred during the rental period, the customer will be charged the corresponding amount as per our matrix: https://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/goldcar/goldcarweb/pdf/terminos_y_condiciones/ImporteDa%C3%B1os18-1.pdf
This document is publicly available in our T&C section: https://www.goldcar.es/en/tc/

We always recommend our clients to take out Super Relax cover for their own safe and tranquility on the road, but they're completely free to decide about it.

Kind Regards,

Hello Noe.

After reading your comment, I understand that you booked a third party's coverage.
Therefore, I'd like to explain you how our coverage policy works. We always make the customer choose from two different options: you can purchase our additional coverage or you can leave a deposit in which you'll be liable of any damage made to the car, as our agent explained you at the counter.

We are aware that third parties offer customers their own coverage, as in your case, but it should be explained that this coverage is only applied when a charge is debited from the deposit left by the customer to the rent-a-car company, this is how the third party's coverage policy works. This information must be given by your broker.

We always recommend our additional coverage to customers for their peace of mind because thanks to it, they will be fully protected in case of an accident and we won't be liable if any damage is made to the car.

About you been charge in the currency you do not ask for, Please contact us from this link:
