tried this out for the first time

tried this out for the first time - ordering the "Sunday roast - for 4". Was very impressed with the parcel that arrived and certainly wasn't disappointed. Very generous portions, plenty of vegetables and all the accompaniments you could wish for - even included the gravy! - would definitely recommend and will also be using them again.

Difficult to cancel

Difficult to cancel - took over a week to cancel, and charged and despatched a further unwanted box. Apparently it was cancelled 14 mins too late, even that was over a week out from despatch. Food was distinctly average.

(Follow up - yeah, clearly I figured out how to ask that it be cancelled, but the cancellation wasn't processed for over a week)

Great!

I ordered a trial box and to be honest it was very good. Everything was packed well and labelled clearly. The produce is fresh and recipes are easy to follow. I made 3 great meals and they were very tasty. I'd highly recommend Yes Chef!

The food went off in 2 days the vegetables were floppy and was left out side my house when I was not in and was ment to go to a neighbour

Positive experience!

I am extremely happy about my experience with YesChef. The box came promptly with all items correct. The portions were generous. I would say some of the recipe leaflets lacked some detail such as how long to put things in the oven for but I was able to use my common sense in these instances. Would definitely use again.

Not very good at all

I got a call saying the computer made a mistake they don’t deliver on a Thursday do I want it on a Wednesday or Friday. I got my box on a Wednesday right of the bat there was a problem no chicken Biriyani in my order . We had the chicken Kiev no broccoli potatoes were all bruised garlic was off not very good for a first impression would like a refund Claire.

The food was very tasty and the recipes…

The food was very tasty and the recipes easy to follow. The portions didn’t looklike there was enough at first glance but once they were prepared there was ample. I purchased 4 meals for 3 people but the meals would of easily fed 4.

Really tasty pies!

I got given a voucher from my work for use at Yes Chef. The meals choices were not really to my taste so I purchased pies and dishes form their lazy day range. I can honestly say they are the best pies I have ever tasted. Full of meat and the pastry was delicious. 2 items were missed off my order but the company replied quickly and had them sent out for me. I think contact details or a phone number would be useful on their website as it was quite hard to find the details to get hold of customer service. Would definitely recommend the company

Disappointed and confused

I placed an order for a subscription box, which hasn't been delivered yet, it is due to be delivered tomorrow (Friday). I emailed a week ago to ask how to choose the meals for the following box and received no response to this question. It isn't clear from the website how to do this. 3 days ago I was charged and invoiced for the second box - the invoice stated it contained the exact same 4 meals as the first box - which still have yet to arrive. I do not want a subscription box which delivers the exact same 4 meals as the previous week. I would like to cancel my subscription and be refunded for the 2nd box with the duplicate meals. I have emailed about this 3 days ago and have not received a reply.

Very disappointed and would not use again

Very disappointed and would not use again. Ordered a one off box with 4 meals. Even with the first time discount it did not seem good value as we did not enjoy any of the meals. The recipe cards were poor and instructions unclear or incorrect. One said at the start to put the oven on, but the oven wasn’t needed. Suggests poor attention to detail and lack of care. I’ve used Hello Fresh and Gousto before and have had a few issues with missing ingredients, but the quality of the food is always high and the Yes Chef meals felt very poor quality in comparison. The worst thing was the meat. Two of the chicken portions had a horrible smell. I understand that vacuum packed meat can smell when first opened, but it still smelt after cooking. This was very off putting and indicates the meat was not fresh. There were also no dates on the meat, it just said something like use within 5 days of delivery. Poor customer service also - could not find an email contact on their website and seemed to only be able to contact via Instagram. I sent them a message explaining my concerns and they did not even bother to respond. Which is why I have left this review, as I cannot recommend using their services.

The parcel was delivered on time, I did like the recipe cards which were very easy to follow and some of the meals were good and tasty, however I was very disappointed that the chicken parcel was off for the Chicken Biriyani meal so I had to dispose of that and use my own chicken. The Tender Stem Broccoli was missing from the Chicken Kiev meal and also the bottle of wine that I ordered Kirstenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 costing £14.00 was missing from the parcel. The overall meals cost £49, so you can therefore understand my disappointment when I opened the parcel.

With regards to our chicken is vacuum packaged. This means your chicken is vacuum sealed for freshness purposes. During this process, some oxygen is removed from the packaging to preserve the quality. This can cause a sulphur or "eggy" smell when opened. All you need to do is open up the package and allow it to sit for a couple of minutes before cooking and it will be fine. You only need to be concerned if the packaging was not intact.

Ok so my first experience with Yes Chef…

Ok so my first experience with Yes Chef was not good for a few good reasons. Forget the meals, upon emailing them, they didn't seem to take it seriously. I will leave it at that, as their boxes are supposed to be more upmarket and I will always support small businesses and start ups. Good luck, hope you will eventually be able to compete with other meal kit providers.

True nationwide delivery

Delighted with my first box from Yes Chef. And even more delighted that they were willing to send it to Inverness - something a lot of other boxes refuse to do even though they advertise as Nationwide Delivery. I shall be letting my neighbours and friends know that Yes Chef has opened up a world of opportunity :-)

This is the first food box delivery service where I've thought that it was good value for money even if I'd paid full price. I've tried Hello Fresh and Gousto and the Yes Chef box contained far better quality/quantity of veg and meat. Recipes were absolutely delicious too, although I don't think the recipes are written quite as 'novice-friendly' as the app-based gousto/hello fresh. Eg red cabbage recipe that accompanied cajun salmon - there were two small red cabbages for 4 people. I instinctively knew it was too much cabbage, but I followed the recipe and it took about 40mins on high heat to reduce the liquid instead of the 20 mins on low heat that the recipe stated.

In my first half-price box, there was 600g cod fillet, 800g cubed lamb, 4 salmon fillets and 4 part prepared large chicken kievs. There were far more herbs that needed - 10 packets - so they've served me well for other cooking.

There is a bit more packaging that Hello Fresh/Gousto, but we've washed the little pots and added them to the tupperware mountain and 'things that will come in handy' craft box.

I'd certainly say that Yes Chef box has the edge over the other two services I'd used, although I think that they need to improve their photography because some of the veggie dishes look very greige and unappetising.

Edit to update 27 May 2021 - initially thought the service was wonderful, but I was let down with one missed delivery (I glossed over it because I loved the quality of the food), but next box had some items that went straight into the bin from the box (dill, edamame). The stars of the show remained a consistent high quality (the meat & fish), but some of the side show items started to be inconsistent (small amounts of liquid items in plastic bags - eg honey, gochujang).
The following week I'd asked for a Wednesday delivery, but the change was missed and delivery came on friday, but there was one less adult in the house from that weekend, so although I've frozen the meat & fish from that box, I've just gone through the fridge to throw away herbs and yogurt that weren't used because of the later arrival of the 4 meals for 4 people box, when there were fewer people to use the contents.
It's a shame because I had high hopes, but I'm sort of missing the excitement of the Gousto recipe box now where all of the steps are clear in the recipe and the ingredients are accurately measured with nothing left to chance.

Disappointing

Disappointing. Was gifted a Christmas box which was excellent, so decided to buy one for Easter. Not enough root veg. Two tiny carrots and one parsnip three small potatoes for two people roast box, and not fresh - had to use them before Easter. Joint of lamb was small. Not good value for what was received. Would have been cheaper to buy the ingredients separately. Would not recommend, I will never use them again.
