I purchased Wi-Fi for both legs of a return trip and likely inadvertently purchased a recurring subscription. When the next month was charged and I realized what happened, I got in touch with the company through their chat option, and the charge was quickly refunded and the recurring subscription canceled. This was a simple process, and they took me at my word that I didn’t mean to sign up for monthly.

Antenna

After speaking to David I bought an antenna ( which was out of stock) The antenna gave less signal strength than the one I have, Xpol v2. Told David by text, no response. Infact communication from them was really poor.

Kit for a canal barge

Kit for a canal barge. I don’t know the technology but just wanted something that worked. I was nervous that David was recommending something no better than I had already but at a much higher price. Turns out I was totally wrong. David was helpful, responsive and got me a router, antenna and pointed me to a SIM card. My WiFi now just works. All the time, wherever I stop (not tunnels!!). I use the WiFi for work and it has not let me down. Can’t recommend more strongly.

Great Solution

Very helpful company in resolving wifi coverage in my campervan, the old system I had was useless. David supplied an affordable replacement Huawei B636-336 that meant I could use my existing roof aerial and went from 'no internet' with old router to 51Mbps download speed and 29Mbps upload -WOW!! New router received next day. Great customer service!

Expensive waste of money

For an expensive and supposedly superior system the truth is It Doesn’t Deliver.
Poor reception over large parts of the country when outside of large towns.
This isn’t a SIM card problem as I get good reception with the sim in my phone yet zero reception when in their router.

I wouldn’t recommend it.

I needed advice

I had a Huawei router from wifi onboard which never really worked well, whenever I rang for support it always seemed to be the sim card (which it wasnt) . The last problem I had when it almost stopped working I was promised a call back and never got one. I contacted a different company who supplied a TP LINK router and it works perfectly. I ,personally, would never have the Huawei again and found the after sales backup pretty non existent, sadly I could'nt recommend this service to anybody.

Excellent material and after sales service

We went for wifionboard for our new bespoke narrowboat because we considered they were a company with experience -- connectivity issues are never as simple as they sound and the devil is in the detail.
We went for the full 4G/WiFi system, with booster and two antennas and for Three as provider.
We were not disappointed.
The system works very well, WiFi is available all over the boat. Of course performance depends on where you are on the network -- some spots seem to be in a blind hole :-) But nothing to do with the system itself.
The material and after sales service has been really excellent. The owner, David, knows the systems inside and out. He responds on the phone and has time for you.
Today, at the Crick Boat Show for narrowboats, he even came on board our boat, explained some advanced features, installed the latest updates. All on top of being such a knowledgeable -- and charming -- person.
Full marks! Worth every penny...

Great 3/4G Narrowboat WIFI system

Bought a WiFi extender and a 4G Router/Antenna for our narrowboat at the Crick show a few years ago. The setup (which we have used with both EE and Vodafone) works well, and having travelled the canal network fairly extensively over the last couple of years it is rare that we don’t have a decent internet connection. So much so, that we almost never have to use the WiFi extender, as the 4G connection usually does the job.

The Antenna, which has a fantastic magnetic mount fixes securely to the boat roof.

Wifi Extender worth only 1/10 of the cost

Bought the wifi extender to use with BT wifi on our narrowboat. The reception is horrible and the router needs to be completely reset every time we move. I've emailed the company nearly a dozen times over this issue and the response back has been poor to the point where they just started ignoring me, most likely because it was now after my legal right to return the item. If I'd known it was going to be this poor there is no way I would have paid the hefty price tag for it, I'm now locked into a BT wifi contract for a year and have only been able to use it in one location so far. At most this item is worth about £20, yet their charging nearly £200. Definitely don't waste your time and money, sadly there are no good options for WIFI or 3G/4G on board a narrowboat if you use the internet regularly, data charges are insanely high so even after shelling out for the hardware your monthly costs will be alarming, but most definitely don't waste your money on the overpriced options at this site or you'll just end up frustrated and broke.

We always respond to calls to our main number 01332 585967 which is open 9am-5pm during UK business hours and answerphone thereafter email support is on a best endeavours basis and we try to respond within a working day but sometimes these get missed or are routed to spam or junk. All calls are dealt with the same day if possible. This equipment is designed to boost a Wi-Fi signal we always tell customers that the system is only as good as the Wi-Fi equipment at the other end of the link. We would never recommend using BT Wi-Fi as the main communications if the boat is cruising as the BT Wi-Fi comes from the BT routers in homes and businesses along the canal, this signal can never be guaranteed as it is very dependent on the location of the BT Hub. The system is £140 and we have sold many 1000s of these over the last 3 years to boats located in marinas. The system takes 2 minutes to setup when you have moved to a new location it is not designed to be used on the move. We always recommend a 4G system using our antenna systems if you want a reliable connection. I think the customer should be directing question to BT re their service rather than the equipment. Customers have 90 days to return equipment if bought on the internet and 30 days if bought face to face. We always work to fix customer problems and recommend a call to discuss the requirements prior to purchase.
