Pet Care Advice
Customer Hub
Pet emergencies can happen at any time – including when your regular vet is closed.
That’s why our nationwide network of out-of-hours pet emergency clinics are open through the night, at weekends and on bank holidays, so we’re ready and waiting to provide expert pet emergency care when your regular vet is having some time off.
Our pet emergency clinics are the pet equivalent of A&E and our purpose is to give you and your pet the care and support you deserve, at the time you need it most, whether it’s four in the morning or in the middle of Sunday lunch.
Vets Now provides this trusted service to more than 1000 veterinary practices across the UK — from over 60 dedicated out-of-hours clinics and two 24/7 pet emergency hospitals. In total, we treat around 200,000 small animals every year — our highly-skilled team works hard throughout the night, weekends and Bank Holidays. So whether you’re in Aberdeen, Belfast or Portsmouth we’re there for you and your pet when you need us most.
We’ve also pioneered other ways to help pets, pet owners and the veterinary profession, such as our comprehensive referrals service and providing our staff with industry-leading training and development opportunities. We also support the pet blood transfusion charity, Pet Blood Bank UK. Meanwhile, our two hospitals — in Glasgow and Manchester — are home to some of the UK’s leading specialists in the field of emergency and critical care and provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

We took my poor Minnie as she had collapsed and stopped breathing. The staff at thornbury vets were amazing they rushed straight out for her at the door and took her to the back reassuring they would do anything possible to make sure that we were able to take her home with us. Luckily their quick thoughts and reactions meant that my dog was very lucky, 6 hours went by and we got to take are Minnie home.
The staff here are amazing making sure your pet gets immediate care and making sure to keep the owners/family members are updated at every step of the way!
We honestly could not thank you enough!

£302 for an out-of-hours consultation is, frankly, excessive. While I understand that emergency services come at a premium, the level of care and professionalism should reflect this cost.
After my cat was triaged, the vet’s consultation felt extremely rushed. Information was delivered very quickly, with little effort to ensure we fully understood or had the opportunity to ask questions. It gave the impression that the consultation was being hurried through rather than handled with care.
Given that the total came to around £400 for a 20-minute consultation including pain relief, I would have expected a far more professional and empathetic approach. We attended because we were genuinely worried about our cat’s bladder issues and wanted to act responsibly in case her condition worsened.
It was also disappointing to learn that there is a £35 administration fee simply to submit an insurance claim, which feels unreasonable on top of already high costs.
Overall, the experience felt impersonal and did not match the high cost of the service.

After having a bad experience elsewhere we chose to admit our very poorly cat to Yorkshire vets and vets now happened to be taking over mayo’s care over the bank holiday. I have absolutely nothing bad to say, every single team member was amazing. They firstly stabilised our cat but explained everything in detail and answered all of our questions, we had daily updates and they were always happy to chat / calm our nerves. They were gentle and loving with mayo, we could see that mayo felt comfortable and was well looked after despite his circumstances. They allowed us to be in charge of mayos care and make choices based on what they and we felt comfortable with. They were very open and honest about costs and how to potentially reduce cost via going down other routes. We could not be happier with the care mayo has received / is receiving.

They were brilliant with me cat when I had to bring him in due to breathing problems. They did all the tests they could. And I even had to ring up for advice through the day and they were so helpful and supportive

I’m very grateful for the out-of-hours service provided by Vets Now. When my cat was unwell, being able to get an appointment quickly gave me real peace of mind, and the vet we saw was excellent — kind, professional, and clearly knew what they were doing. They took great care of my cat and got the situation sorted, which I really appreciate.
However, I was quite taken aback by the cost. £302 for the appointment felt extremely high, especially on top of the stress of having a poorly pet. I was also surprised to be told there would be an additional charge (around £30+) just to complete an insurance claim form.
When your pet is unwell, you’re effectively backed into a corner and don’t feel you have a choice but to go ahead and pay. It did feel like this situation was being taken advantage of.
Overall, a very good service in terms of care, but the cost side I feel is unfair.

The vets were quick to realise my female dog needed a caesarean section. They fully explained the procedure, her care , and the possible costs and risks. They kept us informed throughout the six hours she was there and consequently we had three healthy puppies and our female dog to bring home at 12.30am.

Ridiculous prices for consultation. Borderline robbery. No way should a emergency sunday appointment cost 302.50 before any treatment or antibiotics.

The staff were excellent at Vets now, lovely and friendly. The service I received was excellent and very efficient.
The only downside was the cost of the treatment and having to pay up front before your insurance claim.
