Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 368 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently complained about extremely poor customer service, exceptionally long phone hold times, and completely unhelpful communication channels when trying to reach support agents. People also experienced deeply frustrating payment delays, unexpected account and check holds, alongside unresponsive branch staff during their regular visits. Some reviewers were happy with individual staff members who provided kind and professional assistance during challenging banking visits. These specific employees successfully resolved difficult problems, offered great personal support, and genuinely made a positive difference for those customers. A few consumers noted that these helpful interactions helped them avoid major financial losses or successfully clear up disputes.

I had an absolutely terrible experience…

I had an absolutely terrible experience with Truist after paying off my car loan.

Before making my final payment, I called Truist specifically to update my mailing address because I no longer live at the old address. I wanted to make sure my car title would not be sent to the wrong place. I also paid off my loan early because I am currently applying for a mortgage, and I needed proof that the car loan was paid in full so my underwriter could remove this payment from my debt-to-income ratio.

After I paid off the loan, Truist immediately removed my access to the loan account online, so I could no longer download a statement myself. I asked customer service for a simple paid-in-full letter or zero-balance statement. They could not provide it. I never received the letter, and they would not give me any clear solution.
I fully understand that a car title can take time to be released and mailed. That was not my issue. My issue is that Truist could not provide basic written proof that my loan was paid off, while also removing my online access to the account.

Even worse, when I asked them to confirm where my title was being sent, I was told it was being sent to the old address, even though I had already called before making the final payment to update my mailing address. So now my car title is apparently being sent somewhere I no longer live, and Truist will not properly assist me.

The customer service experience was unacceptable. I spoke with representatives who were not helpful, and when I asked for a supervisor, the supervisor was rude, dismissive, and still could not resolve anything. When I asked for a call reference number, he refused to provide one. When I asked to be transferred to another supervisor, he intentionally hung up on me.

At this point, Truist has failed on every level. They removed my online access, failed to provide a paid-in-full confirmation, failed to properly handle my mailing address, and now my car title may be sent to the wrong address.

This is one of the worst banking experiences I have ever had. For something as important as a paid-off car loan, title release, and mortgage underwriting documentation, Truist’s lack of accountability is shocking.

I would never recommend Truist for an auto loan. There are much better lenders and banks that actually provide support when customers need help.

Never bank at Truist. They are a rip off

Last week I had to take my car to the dealership. The dealership quoted me a price so I went to call truist for an extension in my checking account. I was told no they couldn't grant me an extension
I made a deal with the dealership and I knew I had money in the bank. Fast forward on Saturday May 16 I went to the ATM at truist. On the receipt it stated available balance $ 100.00 I went to the gas station across the street it stated insufficient funds so I went back to the ATM and it said insufficient funds so when I got home . I called the main office and the lady was very nice and gave me a number of the fraud department. I called Sunday and got someone who spoke broken english
I called today and was told on both the fraud department and the main office that they couldn't do anything because I used the buffer Truist has
My gas tank is on empty, my Social Security check doesn't come till May 27 I am homeless living in my car with my dog and we don't have any water
So I would not use Truist bank and I am looking for other banks .

Poor Services Provided. Do not recommend. Not safe

After careful consideration, I’ve decided to move my banking relationship away from Truist. My experience over the years has been consistently disappointing, and I no longer feel confident that customer concerns are being handled with the level of care, diligence, or professionalism they deserve.

What has been most frustrating is the repeated sense that issues are not being fully investigated, but rather passed along with minimal attention or accountability. The overall experience has felt disorganized and careless, which has made it increasingly difficult to trust the process or feel supported as a customer.

After 8 years as a customer, it is also disappointing to feel that customer loyalty and long-term relationships are not genuinely valued. At this point, I believe it is best for me to move to a bank that places a stronger emphasis on customer service, thoroughness, and accountability.

I lost my debit card about a week ago…

I lost my debit card about a week ago which is fine no big deal but the expected delivery date is scheduled for 5/19. A week to send me a debit card is ridiculous. This is why I miss bank of America sometimes because they would provide a temporary debit card if you were waiting on your replacement. These are the small details that would help move the needle on your 1.9 rating on here and 2.9 on Google. You MUST be customer obsessed

This bank is a fraud

This bank is a fraud. I saw they were offering a $400 promotion if you open an account and meet the requirements so I did so and met ALL of the requirements. When I called to inquire about it they told me that the promotion was applied to the wrong account somehow and that account is currently closed so I would not be getting said promo. It’s a scam and I AM canceling my account with them.

Closed my account

Closed my account, cannot speak to anyone in the US. Called a local branch was referred to an 800 number that was absolutely no help at all. The $400 bonus is NOT worth the headache of having an account with this company.

Truist has the worst customer service…

Truist has the worst customer service and the worst representative/Supervisor. They can never help you and all they do is give you false information or lie to your face that they are going to handle your problem and don’t. I am very disappointed with the service/no service this big Bank give to a 30 plus client. That’s how long I have been with this bank. They need to put client first. Truist please improve your service!!

Belligerent Staff

I received a Fraud Alert Text for one of my accounts. On my end, this account is set up to only receive email alerts. Even thought this text seemed legitimate I was concerned and decided to go to the bank to make sure this text was not a scam. When I tried to explain to Carly Hunter my concerns she became quite belligerent. She kept cutting me off whenever I tried to speak. When I pointed that out, she still continued and became even more defensive. By her actions, I honestly believe that she assumed before I even sat down that I was there to complain and was on the defensive from the very beginning. She continued to not let me even explain why I was there, and she finally asked me if I wanted to speak to someone else.

I did speak with another gentleman, and he took the time to listen, and understood my concern. He saw that I had never received texts for this account in the past, but couldn't explain why they would send one now. I am grateful that he took the time to allow me to speak and try to solve this concern.

Truist isn’t a great choice to have your paycheck or business account at period. There practices are very strict and out dated. There fraud department is also very lazy and incompetent. They locked me out of my account causing financial harm and hardship. I wish I could sue them because I didn’t agree to any of these terms.

I made a duplicate mortgage payment and…

I made a duplicate mortgage payment and called to see how it would be handled and if I could just let it be applied as my June payment.

At first, I didn't answer fast enough so Autovoice hung up on me once or twice. Called back and got Fletcher. Seemed like a nice guy at first but then realized he had control issues rather than acceptable customer service techniques. I gave him my full name, AC #, last 4 of SS, birthdate, full property address, verified my cell, verified my husband's cell, and it's not enough.

Now I'm really getting cranky -- this is too much! He definity knows who I am but has an attitude about my attitude.

I'm sorry, but I'm the customer who ISN'T trying to borrow money, nope! I just made an extra payment IN ERROR and simply wanted to know how the bank was going to post it or if they would return it?

So, Fletcher knows all of this but wants to bother me further about giving my permission about receiving text messages. I asked, do you mean you'd like to send me a code to verify my cell.

He gets rude and powerful and says no - for messages at a future date. I asked him what messages and about what because I prefer emails sent to confirming receipt of my payments.

Whew - he's really getting po'd now and pretty much giving me ultimatums at this point. Whoa - so I HUNG UP my cell. I have an 850 FICO and perfect payment history with your bank, I believe. Wonder how you guys treat your deadbeats?

TRUIST DOES NOT REIMBURSE FRAUD CHARGES

Absolutely the worst bank!
Since they switched from SunTrust to Truist, they have cut Customer Service down to nothing. I had a fraud charge on my account. Contacted the bank as soon as I got the text to let them know it was fraudulent. Not only would they not give me a conditional credit, I was not able to place the fraud charge over the phone. And I am still fighting this and trying to get reimbursed. I was told I had to wait till the fraudulent charge posted before I could even dispute it. WHAT A JOKE!!!!!

Leaving this bank!

First of all, Truist has made it so if you have more than 1 phone on an account, which I suspect many do, they don't recognize any of the lines belonging to the person that uses it, they recognize it as the person who's name is on the cell phone account! This creates a huge problem for people who need to change even a phone number because it won't show their name associated with the phone number even if it's listed on their account. They go by who's name shows up on the caller ID!!! What kind of sense does that make? My house hold has 2 phones. I have my number and my partner has his but he can't get a code sent to his phone because it's listed under my name!!! I was so upset I was cursing like a truck drive in the bank. I was that mad. We had to call their customer service and guess where they are? Over seas!!! No help at all. They said my name was showing so they couldn't send a code to his phone because it shows my name instead of his. Make it make sense!!! There are so many other ways to make sure it's the person associated with the account. The bank we were at showed his number associated to his account but the over seas person said they can't send a code because it was linked to my account, showing my name, not his. You will be losing 2 customers very soon.

Horrible customer service

Horrible customer service. The most patronizing support possible. Wouldn't remove my PMI despite my house being worth twice what I paid, so I had to pay an extra $3000 to get below the equity amount they wanted. Then they took 2 months and an added an extra PMI payment anyway. I called to get the payments reversed and refused to do anything but read me my policy. Why did Rocket Mortgage sell my loan to these creeps.
