Troy sucks bad.

OMG, buy if you dare.

They don't reply to your emails and if they do, they will give you another estimate to wait for your books then.... weeks, months passes by and... silence.

Unless you purchase their books from Amazon, do yourself a favor and DO NOT purchase anything in PRE ORDER.... you have been warned.

Inexistant customer service - DONT BUY!

I wanted to encourage an independent publisher and did bought a few books from them in the past. Problem is not the quality of the books (when they are not POD)…

Then I purchased a book on pre-order. It has been now over 8 MONTHS… nothing yet. No follow up, no email, no nothing.

Anyway, so when I contacted them, they ignored my inquiry. I had to write them over and over again to finally get an answer, as if they just don’t care to give any decent service at all.

Then in the only email I've got from them, I have been told that there will be another delay (few weeks!) before copies being available. It’s been now perhaps 9 weeks since then and still, Troy shines with their inexistent customer service, with no follow up, no email, no nothing....

But lo and behold! I do get plenty marketing emails offering me the chance to buy... more pre-order books!

They take your hard earned money then you get ghosted.

What a shame.
Never again.

They really should put a visible note on their website just before the buy button stating that a pre-order can take up to a year. Then, we would decide if we agree such delays.

PS: I've heard there's a book called: "customer service for dummies"...

Beautiful books at an exceptional…

Beautiful books at an exceptional price-point.

Regarding the points others have raised below, while the lead times for volumes can be long, it is worth noting that they are a small, independent publisher producing relatively low quantities of books. The communication has also massively improved over the last 12 months, with regular email updates.

My favourite finish is the buckram; love seeing books bound using this.

I would personally recommend "The Devil's Plantation" and "Hallowtide" from their extensive selection.

Whatever you do, don't pre-order

As one of the other reviewers pointed out, the books they publish are works of art and feel very high quality. I've been buying from them for a couple of years now and I've just found the service has been going downhill. I have placed multiple pre-orders, in fact everything I've bought from them has been a pre-order.
I am fed up having to wait literally months for long overdue pre-orders. You get regular emails updates, but they don't usually help. For instance, I am currently waiting on a book that was due in months ago and finally arrived back from the publishers in the middle of march and is still currently shipping out as of 08/04/2025. The problem is, we are nearly at the middle of April and I am STILL without the book. I'm checking my inbox multiple times daily for notification it has finally been sent, as I am shortly going to be leaving this address, with no certainty about where I'll be living next. What I am noticing is since they've outsourced to a different printers, the service has become even worse, which I didn't think possible.
Worryingly for me is I did have an instance where one of the books I ordered had finished shipping and I was still without a copy. I contacted them, they apologised, but it was a case I had been overlooked and my order had been 'missed'. So if I hadn't reached out, I wouldn't have received my special edition book.
I do have several other pre-orders that haven't been printed yet, but I must say I'm loathed to order any more from them.

I will say this, when I have contacted them, they have always been very prompt and courteous in replying and I daresay they must get inundated from people looking for updates. I didn't used to bother, but it's gone on too long now.

I buy the books from them more as a curio, as I don't necessarily believe the stuff contained therein and I don't believe it works, but sometimes it's interesting to see the beliefs our ancestors had in time's long since flown by.

I can definitely recommend the books, but the service is another matter.

What’s happened to Troy books?

I’ve been a loyal fan of Troy Books for years. I’ve got quite a library now from all the fantastic authors they publish.
The books are beautiful quality and a pleasure to read. They look wonderful displayed on the shelf. You get what you pay for, as the books are a true treasure to enjoy and keep.

I used to really love doing business with Troy Publishing. I never had any problems in the past. Everything was made easy. I made an order online, paid for it, got an email notification to indicate my order was confirmed, followed by another email to say it was dispatched and the book arrived. Fantastic!
I was over the moon in the past when I would preorder a book through Troy. I’d get an email notification alert to let me know every step of the way - if there were any delays with the printers or when books had an estimated date of arriving. An email would be sent to those on the mailing list for Troy with news of preordered books getting dispatched, followed by a personal email notification to let me know the book I had preordered was mailed and on the way.

A great experience that unfortunately doesn’t seem to be happening right now. Well maybe not for me anyway.

What really let’s Troy Publishing down is the lack of communication when the customer asks a question.
It’s very difficult to contact them on their website as in my experience, you never know if the message you send has been read or received.

There’s no telephone number to call with queries. It’s as if they make it rather difficult for the customer to contact them other than through the website…which I’m not sure even works as I’ve never received a response or email back.

It’s not nice to feel ignored.

It’s a real shame that their social media team are unresponsive too. From what I can see, they seem to ignore questions on posts or offer close to no response when asked for advice or help.

I’ve preordered with Troy in the past with no problems.
However, the last 2 preorders have been a terrible experience. I have no idea what’s happening with the business but last year I had to open a PayPal dispute to finally get contact and information on my very delayed preorder.
It really shouldn’t be this difficult for the customer.
Despite the sour experience, that was eventually resolved, I was foolish enough to preorder again.

Preorders were supposed to have been shipped 5 days ago and I’m still waiting on a shipping confirmation to show my book has been dispatched (though I have heard folks have already received their copies.)
Disappointed and out of pocket at the moment. Not very sure what’s happening.

So what incentive is there for the customer to preorder with Troy? And what reason is there to return back as a loyal customer?
All I would like is a response. A little communication goes a long way.

I would love to find out which book stores stock Troy books as I’d much prefer to purchase through someone else - it’s not the book’s fault that the publisher has let me down!
