Auction listing with digitally altered photos — non-functional unit delivered
I won Lot A1-42434-2XX (Linde L12i stacker) and collected it on the exact date indicated by the seller. Upon unloading it at my facility, I immediately discovered the unit was completely non-functional — it does not start and is in salvage condition.
Comparing the listing photos with the actual machine revealed a deliberate attempt to misrepresent its condition: the unit had been repainted, and the listing photos were digitally altered to make it appear as though it has its original Linde factory color — concealing the true state of the machine from potential buyers. The description stated "not tested" — a term I understand to mean performance parameters were unverified, not that the machine is inoperable scrap.
I contacted Troostwijk on the same day I unloaded this lot, hoping they would act on the fraud. No response. Days later I received a notice claiming I had not collected the lot in time and that around 40% of the amount paid would be retained. The seller had falsely reported non-collection — despite the fact that I collected it on the exact date they specified.
I replied explaining that the lot had been collected on the indicated date and that I was the victim of photo manipulation and a misleading description. When I provided evidence of collection, Troostwijk closed the case regardless, effectively siding with the seller and ignoring my documentation. Their response was that since they had refunded a portion of the invoice value, I should be satisfied — their exact words were: 'Hope you have appreciated the compensation.'
This raises a serious question: does Troostwijk's process create a system where a dishonest seller can report non-collection as a mechanism to retain buyer funds — even after delivery of a misrepresented item?
Troostwijk does not verify that sellers provide accurate descriptions or unaltered photos. If you are a seller, you can apparently edit listing images without consequence. The buyer pays the price — literally.
I have photographic evidence and written correspondence to support every claim above.

Shortcomings of the Troostwijk online site.
The Troostwijk online site is very good. I have been using it for over 10 years. Its usability has deteriorated a lot recently. It often freezes, it logs you out during bidding, and it only partially displays items marked as favorites during bidding. As a result, I cannot even bid on many items marked as favorites if I look at the favorites folder.
The other old problem is that there is no contact email address for the current auction. As a result, it is very difficult or impossible to negotiate with the seller for items that have been won.
Regardless, the platform is good, and I always keep an eye on it.
