Train cancelled due to strike. No other trains available all day. Refused to refund me. Raised dispute through bank and they tried to block refund. Fortunately the bank won. Absolute crooks.

Worst train operator that I saw in…

Worst train operator that I saw in other countries. Everything is just so confusing. The train numbers on the station and on the trains do not match. The trains are mostly delayed. Besides the tickets are just so confusing. Why do they expect you to check-in and if you do it wrong you pay a fine. Stupid train company.

No refund... Trenitalia are robbers

We cancelled our trip more than a month before the travel date, filled all the refund process (that is a little confusing and discouraging). We received today an email saying that there will be no refund because of a special offer the day we bought the tickets on the website. This company uses thug methods, shame on you Trenitalia !

Disgusting worst bread and sandwich

Not bad for it’s price , one thing that I hated the most is that when I bought a sandwich inside Trenitalia , I never imagined that I would eat that bad and disgusting taste and texture sandwich just purely disgusting.

Obsolete and inflexible train travel

Random unhelpful announcements every 5 minutes, which is unnecessarily verbose and unbelievably irritating to passengers just wishing to enjoy a quiet journey. The so-called restaurant car on Frecciarossa trains has no tables and has a sorry selection in the menu. Rigid cancellation policies on unused tickets. All in all, decent but obsolete and (in many ways) rigid train travel conditions by Italy's main operator.

Terrible experience with Ternitalia- BEWARE!

I also had a very horrendous experience using Trenitalia in Rome, which left such a dent in my experience visiting Italy as a tourist that made me feel that I should really not visit Italy again.
I was going from Rome to the Fiumicino Airport with my son. We paid for our tickets online (euro 14). Like many other foreign tourists who did not know their train system well enough, we were fined 64 euro (50 euro fine + 14 euro for the price of a new ticket) by the train inspector for not validating the paid tickets before using them.
The fine amount is ridiculous for innocent tourists who already paid for the full value of the ticket. Trenitalia could have given us a stern warning and cut some slack for tourists who paid for the tickets and were genuinely unfamiliar with the train validation process. Or if they are focused on wanting to make more $ from tourists via fines, they could have fined a more reasonable sum like 14 euro, i.e. the ticket price of another new ticket. By imposing a fine of euro 64, they are making us pay the same fine amounts as passengers who were caught not paying for the ticket at all (which was not the case for us).
There are also no signs at the train stations stating to passengers that they are required to validate the tickets before boarding the train.
The most shocking exp was the train inspector was very "targeted"- he only checked on us (the Asian tourists on board the train at that time) and did not check on the tickets of the others on the train. It left the strong feeling that he was intentionally targeting tourists as he knew that the tourists were likely not familiar with the validation system. We were also told that if we did not pay the fine, he would call the police and we may risk missing our flight. The intimidation approach used here on tourists (who had contributed to the Italian tourism/economy) was simply shocking! Never expect this to happen in a developed country like Italy.
It made us feel that Trenitalia is resorting to issuing fines to tourists as a revenue stream to boost their revenues!
For tourists going to the Rome airport, please be careful. The validation process is not easy for 1st time tourists. So if you are new to this validation system of Trenitalia, avoid taking Trenitalia as best as you can (can take a bus/van/car). With the fine amount, it worked out to be cheaper to take a cab for us from Rome to the airport!

Terrible experience

Their business is not to run a train, but to discriminate against Asians and target them for outrageous fine. We got fined EUR 64 per each, while a fare was EUR 16, without any reasonable explanation in a polite manner. They even threatened to call police while my kids were crying out for fear, because the train officer kept shouting with angry face in the door-closed train. It was a traumatic experience and gave us the worst impression on Italy. I was extremely disappointed to know there are such a shameful people there.

I'm sure many have written about this…

I'm sure many have written about this before but their "check in" system on a phone does not work and then conductors fine you on board for having not done so. They will tell you that you should have spoken to staff because of the "problem" beforehand.

I spoke to SEVEN staffers about this ticket and not once did they bring up that I needed to go beyond the QR code I already received. Someone should report this company to the authorities. You can't check in beforehand half the time and then you get shook down. Unfortunately, those that use this sparingly and those in a rush or disabled will get ripped off time and time again.

Fined despite having the ticket, impossible to complain in their website

Despite having the ticket me and my girlfriend were fined by the conductor for not doing the check in on a regional train. Basically we bought two tickets and we clicked on the "Check in & Barcode" button on the email, after clicking we saw the barcode for the ticket and we were sure we had done the check in. Apparently this was not enough to do the check in, we should have also scrolled all the way down on the barcode page and clicked "Check in" again. Despite our explanation, the conductor, who said he had already fined other people on the train for the check in, said we had to pay 60 Euros fine. After paying that he said we had to pay 60 Euros each, so we paid 120 Euros + the cost of the tickets for a travel of an hour and the train was also late. I have tried to complain on their website, but every time I try I get a message saying there is an error and I can't submit my complain. This weird and unclear check in system looks like a scam from the company to take money from the customers who pay for the ticket, and they do not even allow the customers to complain about this system.

A complete embarrassment

If you have the option - go with Italo. We bought tickets on our phone for €15, and when we got on the train the ticket collector said we should have gone on the app BEFORE the train departed and “checked in” the ticket which we had already bought (this thing started in August 2023 apparently) and now we had to pay €30 each. The management of this company must be insane. And the ticket collector Yuri’s logic was that if you don’t check in you can modify the ticket after you have bought it and travel back and forth between a destination. With suitcases, it was fairly obvious we weren’t going to do that. Yuri, either your bosses are complete morons for forcing you to collect double the ticket fare from paying customers or you yourself have got half a brain.

I had a bad experience in trenitalia,

I had a bad experience in trenitalia,
They don't have consideration to their passengers.
I got a train for 10minutes earlier, I already paid my tickets, and show my ticket to the controller, but still they sued me to pay €50 for the fine.. spending €14 + €50 only for termini to fiumicino.. so insane..
I don't recommend this. No consideration.
The train was half empty.

La vergogna d`Italia.

English to follow. No perche a me pare che non facciate molto, altrimenti I treni arriverebbero puntuali!
Fino a quel giorno risulterete solo patetici.
Danm jerks I cannot count the times your third world, dirty, always late and overpriced trains of a clown company you are, has ruined my plans. The last time I had an important appointments the train was forty minutes late, this time it was a strike. What exactly are you striking for? Cause it doesn't look like you working to me or else the danm train will be running on time. I see you sitting around checking tickets only when is convenient to you and to whom you can get away with. I cannot count the time I`ve seen big ol scary dudes get away without having a ticket but then watching you being picky with women, the elderly and kids. And you also got the nerves to play the victim with your striking, too bad nobody feels sorry for you. As a matter of fact everyone hates you. Start by running trains on time and do a better job and then you can complain, till that day you only gonna look pathetic. The strike notification has arrived via text the evening prior my early morning departure, a real hassle for those of us who weren't updated through the news. You have no idea of the damage you created, unlike you I like to work, this was no excuse to stay home. You deserve to be mass sued so that you can go bankruptcy and some foreign strict country buys you off and then you will have something to cry about like the memories of you when you were sitting on your butts. You have the whole country hating you and danm you to eternity for the shameful job you do and you still play it like it's not your fault. Sometimes I felt safer I get a train a hour earlier than what I should just not to be late, with all that comes with it, and you still manage to get me late! The main issue here is that I should not be juggling around to accommodate your incapability to ride and train on time and around your little striking, you should be the one one to make sure you are doing your job. Especially when considering the overpriced tickets, that if you got some dignity left.

Never book trenitalia pass

We wanted to visit Rome by train and booked the trenitalia pass. This was the worst decision ever. You are required to reserve seats in the train but it is not possible via the website to reserve those seats if you do not live in Italy. So I contacted the Customer Support and I needed to contact them 7 TIMES!! until I got my reservations for the train.. It is absolutely incredible how bad and unsupportive the workers are. The result is that my boyfriend and I can travel to Rome in completely different coaches because they are not even able to book two seats next to eachother. I spend HOURS for these seat resevations. Next time I will spend more money and book it directly with another company. This was an absolute horrible experience.

6 Months Later And Still No Refund!!!

Last year I booked 2 sets of return tickets, for me and a friend, to go on a walking holiday to Italy. Total cost €319-10. The dates were 18/9/23 to the 25/9/23. On the 16/9 TrenItalia cancelled the outward and inward leg of these journeys, and explained the refund process to follow. I filed a claim on line, 16/9/23. I chased up the claim, 30/10/23 and was told, the claim is in the system and there is a minimum wait of 3 months. The person I spoke to did agree to mark the claim as urgent, in order to have it expedited. I chased again, 5/1/24 and was told that a new claim needed to be made, no reason was given as to why. So, I made a new claim. Again, I chased this up in the middle of February and was told that the claim is in the system, familiar words! I asked when will it be paid, the TrenItalia representative was not able to answer , only to say that this was with another department. I then asked to speak to someone in this department and was denied. I raised this as a formal TrenItalia complaint on the 5/3/24. I received only confirmation of receipt of the complaint. The reply does state that it can take between 30 and 90 days for a response to my claim . To date, I have received no refund from TrenItalia, 6 months down the line. Please bear in mind that I am not asking for any additional holiday cancellation costs, just my train ticket refund, as a result of TrenItalia cancelling said trains. When I read the TrenItalia ethics policy, I am struggling to see where this sorry tale fits with regards to "Integrity, Honesty, Fairness and Transparency". It would be interesting to hear TrenItalia's view on this? It is clear to me that TrenItalia's strategy is to delay, delay, delay with the hope that I might just give a up and thus become another statistic in TrenItalia's positive cash flow. Looking forward to a "fair, honest and transparent" resolution to my problem.
