Unreliable & dishonest, best avoided!
I booked Damon in for 8AM on 24/01/22 to make good of some holes in a composite door owing to changing the locking system and then a full respray and reseal costing circa £280.
Damon turned up (albeit it a couple of hours late) and set about work but sadly after carrying out the work, he attempted to collect payment and leave site despite there clearly being a defect in his work (the filler had sunk and cracked the fresh paint) - I spotted this and asked Damon to rectify which he did, but he did so without much care as he did not bother to re-sheet/mask up this time resulting in a fine mist of black over-spray all over my UPVC frame and cills as well as his heat gun yellowing the frames a little too (I guess from putting the heat too high or too close where he was in a rush?) Frustratingly I was too embarrassed to properly inspect the second time around so did not spot this until Damon had left site :(
A few days later (06/02/22) I noticed that the repair had once again failed (filler had shrunk again - likely due to too much filler being put in, in one go vs being built up) so I messaged Damon to come back and rectify. At this point in time he was pretty quick to pick up the message and said he would pop by the following week to rectify but this promise did not materialise and nor did any explanation.
After lots of chasing, I finally got rebooked in for 24/06/22 but again, Damon was a no show without any explanation.
On 01/08/22 I finally managed to reach Damon by telephone, he claimed to not remember who I was or the job in question but did agreed to come back on 04/08/22 during the AM when incentivized with another job (to repair some scratches in some laminate floor).
At 14:06 on 04/08/22 I messaged Damon to see what time he was going to be with me as I had not heard, he responded that he wasn’t going to be able to get to me but would be back in touch to re-arrange – he then started ignoring me again until early November at which point he promised to attend site on 03/10/22.
03/10/22 came and guess what? Damon turned up! Hallelujah! I showed him the scratches to the laminate floor and told him about the overspray/yellowing he had left on the door frame last time (to make sure he was more careful this time) and left him to his devices. He came and got me a little while later and the door looked good although I couldn’t really tell with the laminate as he had applied a very glossy spray (a sealer I guess?) to a much larger area than the repair which made it very hard to see where the repairs were. Damon said I would need to wait for the floor repairs to dry and then I would need to hoover up the dust and clean the floor so I figured I couldn’t really inspect until later?
Skip forward a few days to 18/10/22 and the repair on the door has failed in exactly the same way again (clearly the filler being used is unsuitable or is being applied too thickly) and having cleaned the laminate floor I can see several of the repairs are of poor quality (think 99p store touch up pen in the wrong colour) and I still have patches of high gloss which probably stands out worse than the issues Damon was supposed to be rectifying!
I notified Damon again of the failed repair and he said he would be out the following week but was a no show, then he said he would be out on Dec 8th but was a no show, then he said he would be out on Feb 15th but again was a no show – each time with no explanation, he just doesn’t turn up and doesn’t answer his phone.
It’s now been over a year since I hired Damon to do the 2nd job which I paid him handsomely for (£280 for the door and a further chunk more for the poor floor repairs) and I’ve pretty much given up on him ever coming back to finish the job properly.
I’m now going to have to pay someone else to come and do the job properly but the thought of some other poor sod going through this nonsense does not sit well with conscience and hence me wasting yet more of my time on Damon by feeling compelled to warn others of what they can expect if they hire him!
