Mother abused at Sunrise Sidcup
My mother was abused here by staff and these staff were subsequently prosecuted. Stay away from this place it is dangerous.
Sunrise Residential Care Home, Elstree
Our 87 year old mother who has a diagnosis moved into Sunrise Care Home Elstree in April. We had met several times with the marketing person and had many reassurances given to us about the care our mother would receive, this was inaccurate. Our mother was assessed twice, less than a week before she moved into Sunrise Elstree. Despite our telling the accessor that she presents well (largely due to the care we had been providing) but has had a diagnosis of Alzheimers for 4 years and is unable to make the smallest decision. The assessor informed us (despite our questioning this decision) that
our mother would move onto the Assisted living floor. We had already been paying for a suite on the Reminiscence (dementia) floor for almost 2 months. Our mother was completely unable to cope with the assisted living floor, unable to find her way around, including to the bathroom in the night, the other residents were unkind to her and she escaped, getting to the end of the drive one evening. Eventually she was moved to the Reminiscence floor where she did receive more care although despite explicit instructions was left alone in bed all morning feeling unwell on several occasions. Also one afternoon we discovered she was still in the clothes she had been wearing the night before and was damp and the shower in her room was out of order. We raised our concerns to the management on numerous occasions and we were informed they would have a meeting about our concerns. We did not receive feedback or assurances of how this would not happen again. Sunrise Elstree is a VERY expensive home and constantly charges extra's for example 20% of the cost of any newspaper or magazine simply to walk it from the from desk to the 2nd floor. Many of the activities they state they provide we never saw any evidence of. The above was deeply distressing for myself and my siblings, we have now moved our mother to a different residential care home where we witness her being treated with a much greater level of care and respect and the management hear our concerns a respond appropriately. Our mother is often unable to articulate how she is feeling and while she was living in in Sunrise Elstree we were constantly worrying about her well being and safety and that is unacceptable.
