Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 287 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers expressed significant dissatisfaction with the company's service, particularly regarding claims handling, which they found to be a complete mess and often denied without proper justification. People frequently reported issues with customer service, describing it as unhelpful, unresponsive, and difficult to get clear information or assistance. The pricing was also a major concern, with many feeling that rates were excessively high and increased rapidly, often without clear reasons, leading to a sense of being overcharged. However, some customers also noted positive interactions with individual agents, praising their helpfulness, professionalism, and ability to provide good quotes and support. These positive experiences often highlighted specific agents who went above and beyond to assist with inquiries or policy adjustments.

I have been a customer of this company…

I have been a customer of this company for almost eight years. Honestly, I thought I was in good hands. To my surprise, they refused to cover the repair of my roof. And the saddest part was when I spoke with the agent a certain Marcus. Ext 9968. A truly despotic attitude as if their salary depended on lying to customers. He refused to share the inspection report, as, in his view, it is not necessary. According to him, I would have to trust his inspectors. This insurance business should disappear. It is simply a robbery of the American people.

Nothing but ableism

I signed up with them 3 months ago.
Since then, I have been nothing but ignored. I am disabled. I keep asking for help and nobody calls me back. They keep assigning me to agents who use ableist microaggressions (and worse) within the first 10 seconds of talking to them.

I guess you cant do business with state farm if youre disabled.

State farm agent Ian McPartin

State farm agent Ian McPartin, Mokena IL. Ian seems to say all the right things when he wants to initiate a policy, or keep a policy, but it falls apart in the execution. This is why we wanted to have our policy moved to a different State Farm agent. This has been the MO, when ever we need information or have a question it is like pulling teeth to get an answer, if this was not the case he may still be our agent. I understand maybe why he wants to drop the ball since we are moving away from him but in my opinion it is very unprofessional he should carry out his duties to the end no matter the outcome. Yet another reason which shows the professionalism or lack of. According to Ian we need to go on line and request the transfer they cant do it. I have talked to other agents who say that is ridiculous agents can transfer policies. So according to Ian we need to set up an online account just to transfer our account. Sounds like he doesn't want to be bothered. He had our business for a few years with premiums in excess of 20 k per year, maybe we weren't big enough for him not making enough off of us i guess. Now when we requested for him to do something now he cant. Beware hope he doesn't treat all his policy holders this way saying a lot but very little follow through and putting the burden on you when something is needed. I could go on but I think this brings the point across.

My trust for State Farm was broken with this claim

I had a hit-and-run happened to my truck while I was sitting in a coffee shop and not in a position or way to be able to hear or see anything that happened. Before I went into the coffee shop my truck was in good condition and there was no damage to it. When I came out the right rear corner and the tailgate had been hit. I filed the police report for a hit-and-run and gave the claim to State Farm. They took care of the damage all except the tailgate saying that the damage to the tailgate was too far away from the rest of the damage to be included in the accident. I explained to them that there was no damage to my truck at all before I went into the coffee shop but when I came out all the damage was there and all of it was fresh. So how do you explain that the tailgate wasn't part of it? I have an excellent agent and he's always taking good care of me but when it comes to claim State Farm is so far down on the ladder you need a floodlight to find them.

An update to this current situation: after much pressuring from my insurance agent and myself my case was sent up to a specialist for final consideration. Unlike the other people that I spoke to prior who had no idea what they were even talking about this gentleman seem to understand that the damage to the tailgate was definitely part of the accident and he approved the supplement to pay for the damage to the tailgate. My agent was not able to get involved because there was trouble being able to access all of the photos. It was only yesterday that I talked to the other people that created such an issue. But it did not take this specialist hardly anytime at all to look at the photos and realize that the tailgate damage was indeed part of the accident. I'm not increasing my stars because there's too many people that I spoke to that were 100% against the insurance company paying for that tailgate damage. And I think I just happen to get lucky to get a specialist that saw it for what it was.

They did what they were supposed to

They did what they were supposed to. We had a leak in our apartment and they covered the replacement of the items, not just what they worth worth.

this is so important because other companies will pay you what your items are worth with age and wear and tear where as state farm with our policy covered the entire replacement of the exact same items.

Very frustrating that you pay your home…

Very frustrating that you pay your home owners insurance for close to 30 years and have one incident, a claim filed for hail damages (two documented storms in 9 months) that was confirmed by 4 separate contractors but denied by State Farm basically because they get to call it wear and tear on an older roof. This is in addition to high car insurance rates that keeps increasing and when compared to competitors is literally 4 times higher. I question seriously what I’m getting for my money with this State Farm it’s time to research a new insurance company.

State Farm auto claims is a complete mess

State Farm auto claims is a complete disaster. They take a week to assess claims and say the supplement process takes 3-5 days to process as well. My guess is they are trying to AI the process and failing. They probably don't many actual adjusters left.
The selling agents are helpful but have had many of their abilities taken away such as the ablility to start claims for clients.
They are no longer the helpful company they used to be.
Jake from State Farm has left the building.

I have serious concerns about how my…

I have serious concerns about how my auto claim has been handled following an accident in which I was rear-ended by your insured. The circumstances raise issues related to claim handling practices, transparency, and the use of my personal information.
The damage to my vehicle is minor and limited to the rear bumper. Despite this, I was informed that my vehicle might be declared a total loss. I clearly stated that I do not consent to such a determination without a proper evaluation and was assured the claim would be reviewed before any final decision.
However, events suggest a premature determination. On April 16, 2026, I began receiving unsolicited calls, texts, and emails from a rental car company, including attempts to sell me a replacement vehicle. I did not authorize this contact.
When I spoke with a representative to learn how my information was obtained, I was told my vehicle had already been marked as a total loss in your system. This appears to have occurred before any finalized decision or agreement on my part, and without my consent to share my information. Its use for unsolicited sales outreach is particularly concerning.
Additionally, my husband spoke twice with one of your representatives that day and was told the claim could be processed as a total loss regardless of my position. He was also told I could be financially responsible for an estimate and rental if I did not agree. These statements conflict with prior information and raise concerns about coercive communication.
I also requested to be contacted by a manager to address these concerns directly, but to date, I have received no communication or follow-up regarding that request. This lack of responsiveness further contributes to my concern about how this claim is being handled.
I requested justification for the total loss determination and was given a value range for my vehicle, which I independently verified. Based on that valuation and common thresholds in Maryland, a total loss would require repair costs far higher than my current estimate. My estimate is well below that level, yet I have received no clear or documented explanation supporting a total loss designation.

EMBARRASSINGLY, we have been with State Farm 40 years….

Embarrassingly we have been with State Farm for over 40 years. Made only one claim, paid on time with every single premium bill we received. I wish we would’ve canceled back in the 90s when they went wonky. Terrible customer service - they don’t want to repair anything and blame you for it and threaten to not renew you. And they aren’t even nice about it. They practically accused me of lying about the age and quality of my roof because they had lost THEIR documentation. Fortunately, the warranty and claim info was found, and I was absolutely spot on about the age and the 30 year timberline quality. But to save face they are trying to say I have granular loss now…. even though that was what they said when they erroneously thought my roof was from 1997 because of their poor recordkeeping. After a hurricane they only wanted to patch my roof (this is not even legal in my state). I had to get a lawyer to get an entire new roof that was mandated not only by the state laws but by their own policy which I paid good money for! Fast forward to now, and they are still being very UNNEIGHBORLY! They need to change their slogan!

When I called main number today, the guy that answered was listening to loud music and i could tell he was at home. He was trying to say we had a bad connection so I had to tell him to turn off the music and put me on voice isolation. Ugh, super unprofessional!

I wish I had read the writing on the wall back about 20 years ago when they would not let people print their own car insurance proof certificate. They made you come in the office to pick a new one up if it got lost in the mail. Other (better) insurance companies were letting you print your own. So looking back, it just shows their level of ridiculous control and condescension!

To be honest, I think the second worst insurance company in the country would be better TEN times than State Farm! I am leaving in May on my renewal date.

Id give them 0 stars if I could

Id give them 0 stars if I could. Bradley Cooper is just as bad as State farm itself. I went 3 months without a horse trailer insured without ANY acknowledgment, Was even paying for it. Was supposed to get the money back, NEVER saw the check. Then when I need to file a claim, it was a complete and utter mess. I was lied to, manipulated, the vehicle was pretty much stolen and put on a lot for sale before we even settled, I don't know the reason behind that, but HOW SHADY? Consumer be aware of Bradley Copper, but STATE FARM as a entirty.

I thought Statefarm was a reputable company and great insurance to have but from experience, I see they have declined. After years of being with Statefarm, I was told they would not renew my insurance because I used Roadside Assistance “4 times.” Mind you, this was for two different vehicles and were minor claims for a battery jump, safety lockout from vehicle feature and 1 tow. It seems as if they are in the business of collecting money. I have paid over $10,000 in premiums but because I used the roadside assistance 4 times, it’s too much of a risk? Why offer the service if you don’t want it to be used.
