Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 334 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently complained about unhelpful customer service representatives, confusing automated phone systems, and extremely long waiting times when trying to reach someone for help. Many individuals also experienced unexpected extra fees, delayed fund transfers, and frustrating account restrictions that made managing their daily money very difficult. I have opened an account with RBC…

I have opened an account with RBC online. They asked me to go to the nearby branch and show my ID. I went to the 8135 Wyandotte branch, they checked my ID and removed the restrictions. Then, I provided the Direct Deposit info to my Employer so my pay goes to RBC account. On the day I get payed, I checked my account, there was nothing, I thought it was a new account so it may takes a little longer, waited to next day, there was nothing in my account , went to the branch informed me they have no further information. I contacted online advisor and informed me that there is a restriction on my new account and asked me to go to the branch to show my Id. I have informed him that I have done that already , and the branch employees have no clue for such restrictions. However, I went to the branch and informed me that all restrictions have been removed. This is the worst banking experience ever. Customers services is terrible, very disappointed so called one of the biggest bank in Canada.

Trustpilot is absolutely garbage

Trustpilot is absolutely garbage. You cannot even get through to someone to talk to even after Trustpilot says it will put you through to an associate and then it says goodbye and hangs up. Great service; Not.

Every single interaction with Rbc is terrible

Every single interaction with Royal Bank of Canada has been an absolute disappointment. The level of customer service is unacceptable - staff are consistently rude, dismissive, and act with a sense of entitlement that has no place in a customer-facing role.

I was interrupted while trying to explain my issue, told “can I finish?”, and then had the call ended before I could even speak. That alone says everything about how little respect they have for their clients.

On top of that, I received zero real help in resolving the issue with my Visa. MY MONEY. There is no accountability, no urgency, and no basic professionalism.

At this point, it there are deeper issues within the organization—it’s poor hiring practices or lack of proper training, something is clearly broken.

I will be switching banks immediately. The contrast in service with institutions like CIBC and Scotiabank is night and day, based on repeated feedback from others.

This is not the standard Canadians should be dealing with. RBC needs a serious overhaul.

Royal Bank of Canada has perfected the…

Royal Bank of Canada has perfected the art of charging you monthly for the privilege of being ignored.

After 25 years as a customer and 6+ years running a business account, the grand finale was getting called “buddy” by support while they quietly collect their $8/month like a subscription to disappointment.

Zero interest, minimal service, and a tone that makes you feel like you’re interrupting their day by being a paying customer. Impressive.

If your business model is fees + indifference, congratulations, it’s working. I’ve moved my business elsewhere.

Royal Bank takes several days to post…

Royal Bank takes several days to post payments and even though they receive the payments before the due dates, they still charge interest because they take so long to post the payment. Interest is charged from the due date until the posted date. It seems that they intentionally delay posting the payments so that they can charge interest. In the meantime they have the money and are benefitting from it both in its use and in the interest they will charge on it. This is not a one time event, they have been doing this every month for years.

My Dads dead and this is how I get treated.

Worst experience if my life with the manager at the Stockdale branch in North Bay Ontario. I lost my Dad in February. She will not waive pobate for 668.25. Power tripping much? Here I am overwhelmed already, but let's make this only child figure it out while she's extremely stressed. MANAGER AT RBC STOCKDALE in NORTH BAY. You dont know what people are going through or have gone through. Stop acting like you own the bank. Trust me, you can be replaced. 🫢 I am ashamed that my father even dealt with you guys. Disgusting behaviour, have the life you deserve.

Customer service reps aren't there to help

Customer service reps have proven time after time they are not in the service business but rather adding as much red tape to any situation as possible. The wait times to speak to someone has been come abhorrent. I wish i could resolve these issues online but this is often not possible thus leading to required conversations with reps via phone who ultimately say there is nothing they can do but to call back and try again later. RBC appears to support the "Annoyance Economy"

Worst Bank I've seen ever

Worst Bank I've seen ever, worst services, they just took advantages from their customer to make money, worst customer services I've seen in my life.
I never called and satisfied with them. AVOID RBC. Do not go for RBC. I just closed my Bank account with them after only 6 months of opening due to their horrible services and miscommunication, mismanagement. Avoid RBC.I will never recommend this Bank.

My wife’s Mastercard expired

My wife’s Mastercard expired, but no replacement card was sent to her in advance, which is the standard expectation.

Because of this, she had to apply online for a replacement. During the process, the system clearly stated that the existing card could still be used until the new one arrives. However, her card was blocked shortly after, leaving her without any usable card for days.

When we contacted customer service, we were told that once a replacement request is submitted, the card is immediately deactivated. This directly contradicts the information shown online.

This experience is extremely frustrating and inconvenient. In an era where processes are supposed to be automated and seamless, it is unacceptable that a basic service like card renewal failed, and even worse, that misleading information was provided.

RBC needs to seriously review both its card replacement process and the accuracy of its online communication. Customers should not be left without access to their funds due to internal inconsistencies.

Very disappointing experience.

RBC does not secure your credit card information!

FYI
If you are an RBC client (or any bank for that matter) and have ever received an “offer” in a “personalized mail” envelope. Listen up!
Check the upper right corner of your mail. If it says anything other than “letter mail”, it is junk mail! Junk, personalized, neighbourhood, ad, whatever you want to call it, is mailed at a cheaper rate that does not include return to sender services. So no matter what you write on that envelope, it will not go back to the sender, in this case, the bank! It goes back to the post office, may go around several times, but eventually is supposed to end up in the garbage.
As this is not a secure way of sending Your personal information, I urge you to call and complain to your bank that they not send you information this way.
This letter had, of course, my name and address including postal code, the last 4 digits of my credit card, and my credit limit!
These are all the security questions they ask you fro privacy to prove its you!
Ive call RBC twice about this, they will not provide me with an email address for customer service or security. No email address, so i can have record of this! Can’t find one anywhere.
I asked someone call me back on this, she said some called twice. I have zero messages to prove this.
She said i can go into my branch and ask they not mail me, lol. This could help me. But what about you and every other customer whose information is out there in unsecured ad mail to end up in anyone’s hands? Yes, most of it does end up back at the post office plant, where every knows what this junk mail is, that it does not get returned. And you guessed it,not every single person who works there is honest. A lot of this mail, because address is not changed should it not reach you, especially in apartment mail rooms, community boxes, anywhere multiple people get mail, (and yup they want to do away with home delivery which does help security a bit)
It ends up on the floor of the mail room, thrown on the ground, etc.
your personal banking information!
Oh this personalized junk mail letter not includes my last 4 digits of my credit card, my current limit , etc, it also includes a QR code to go directly to my account, all you need i my password. Easy enough to change when you have all that other info….
RBC refuses to care about this!
Also, just try to send any contact info through rbc customer complaint link, lol, impossible. Lol
