I set up three RBC accounts to support our purchase of a cottage in Canada from the US. Two accounts are in Canada, one a chequing, one a U.S. Dollar denominated account. I personally visited an RBC branch (Lunenburg, NS) on June 22, presented my identification and finalized opening the chequing account and got access to Online banking, Since then I have had multiple "account restrictions" placed on the account and can neither pay a contractor (also an RBC customer) or, this morning, even access my Online account. Polite and completely ineffective customer service representatives! What the heck? Isn't this supposed to be a major Canadian bank? An estimated three days to get a call back from a "manager"? Over a week to get an "appointment" for a phone call from the branch that apparently (? who knows?) set up the latest restriction??? Worst bank ever!

I believe they need to improve their customer services. I've been waiting for more than 40 minutes at the queue. Too long waiting time. No one didn't apologize

Had business account with RBC and they just closed my account, no notice, nothing.
I found out the hard way when trying to deposit a payment from a client.
Be very careful with currency exchanges
Recently I purchased Can$ with US$ at RBC Royal Bank. The US$ were in my account at RBC in Canada. Over the telephone, the RBC employee and I first negotiated an exchange rate; then he completed the transaction. When I looked at the resulting amount, it was over Can$970 less than what it ought to have been. He claimed not to be able to do anything about that. My local RBC branch could not correct this — I had to file a formal complaint with RBC. Fortunately the telephone conversation had been recorded, so it was easy for RBC to verify my complaint. Still, it took two weeks to receive the money owed me. If I had not been especially vigilant, I would have been cheated out of C$970. Needless to say, this experience left a bad taste in my mouth.
My other issue with RBC is deceptive names for accounts. My so-called "High Interest US Savings Account" pays 0.25% interest, which is absurd.
Dishonest Deceptive Wealth Advisors
We were given the name of a Wealth Management company RBC in Colorado Springs on September 2023. We did a limited investigation and interviewed
several advisers including a young CFP/MBA CHAD SHEINER. We both are senior citizens in our 70s.
He had a void in his background that we felt was a problem. But bingo he had an older co-worker with extensive experience named RICK GORHAM VP. A
sudden 90 minute meeting was arranged and they stated they would become
“partners”! Unfortunately we hired CHAD SHEINER who ultimately turned out to be highly deceptive and refused to do any FINANCIAL PLANNING and honor his written communication pattern! A CFP who does NO FINANCIAL PLANNING, NO RISK assessment, NO mention of any TAX Consequences is unbelievable!
We never spoke again to RICK GORHAM and the RBC Supervisors did NO SUPERVISION given that in his only (2) Wealth Plans he set a goal of setting aside funds for my (2) parents who DIED
many decades ago?? NO DISCOVERY and due diligence so the (2) pathetic Wealth Plans were essentially useless to us!
AVOID RBC Wealth Management as we filed formal CFB Board complaints on 7/14/26 and shortly we will file formal complaints with FINRA against the Denver, Minneapolis and Colorado Springs offices! We filed formal complaints with RBC Dispute Resolution Officer which was a waste of time! NO
investigation ever occurred and this organization has a total culture of deception and incompetence!

I have been an RBC customer since I was a child. It was my very first bank account, and over the years I trusted them with almost all of my banking and insurance needs, including my personal account, business account, credit card, car insurance, medical insurance, and more.
Unfortunately, over time I noticed a decline in the level of customer service. Phone representatives were often rude and unhelpful, which led me to gradually close every account except one.
Recently, fraud occurred on my business account, and instead of receiving support, I've been passed from one representative to another. One representative even refused my request to speak with a manager. It's frustrating when you're the victim of unauthorized transactions, yet you're made to feel as though you've done something wrong.
Once this issue is resolved, I will be closing my final RBC account. After this experience, I have found TD's customer service to be much better.

Waiting time on phone call at least 45 minutes, every time I can’t pass the person identification, every time they told me bring 2 ID in person to RBC. However, It’s only RBC . the other banks never do that to me!

Do not open a business account in this bank! I should have done my research before I decided to open a business account at RBC. I’ve had a lot of inconveniences, it’s hard to run a business with RBC, looking for another bank to take my business to. All employees are not on the same page, they all say something different. Business replacement cards take a really long time to arrive and they do not get mailed to You but to the branch.

TERRIBLE SERVICE
Rbc used to be the best bank
Rbc used to be the best bank. It was the first bank I ever dealt with but they’ve become the absolute worst. You cannot speak with a human to save your soul. I’ll be closing all my accounts with these psychopaths and find a least psychopathic group of bankers to keep my money and investments. If there is such a thing?
So I've been a customer since 1998
So I've been a customer since 1998, had a business and private account with RBS
Recently they have been sending me text messages to say they are reducing my overdraft, then a few months later they reduce it again. Well i’m off to another bank.
I have never in 27 years been over my limit, never been bankrupt and never defaulted on any payments, clearly my loyalty and good banking custom in the years means zero to you. Your AI system is now controlling our accounts and you don’t have interest in good customer relations to check what’s happing.
What an absolutely lousy company
What an absolutely lousy company when you phone first of all they thank you for waiting on hold for a half an hour if you're not your choice you wouldn't do it if you couldn't second of all when you get somebody on the phone 90% of them can't speak English English is not their first language they have no idea what you're talking about and then you deal it's just it's a horrible company Royal Bank has got to be the worst company on the face of this Earth
Thier tel service is extremely difficult to access
Their telephone service is extremely difficult to navigate, which passes along all vital emergency info online. Their phone instruction doesn't match what happens online. This is not about a long wait, it doesn't allow you to get to a waiting state and purely wastes your time repeating the dial then hangup after mistake and calling again etc while they don't. Compared to this, BMO has a very instant response to deal with your issues on line. Same with other credit unions. Additionally, the general friendliness of two people I spoke with was, a tad bit condescending, so to speak, compared to Credit Union and BMO. But they have branches in areas I go so keep the account and activity. Wish they were more regular customer-friendly eh..
PLS NOTE: ASIDE FROM ONLINE EXPERIENCE, each physical branch experience is quite positive, friendly, patient, and spend plenty of time to give you a great help every time I go visit. So local branch service is consistentlhy 4 to 5. This reivew is only on line experience
I am an RBC customer in Chestermere
I am an RBC customer in Chestermere, Alberta, and I do not like writing negative reviews, but I feel I need to share my experience.
On multiple visits to this branch, the customer service has been very disappointing. There are often only two tellers available while six or seven customers are waiting in line. I understand that employees need breaks, but the branch should still be staffed appropriately to serve customers in a reasonable amount of time.
What has been most disappointing is not only the wait time, but the way customers are treated. When I raised my concern with one teller, who was not wearing a visible name badge, the response I received was rude and dismissive. On another visit, I witnessed another customer raise a similar concern and receive the same type of response.
During my most recent visit, I entered the branch in a positive mood and left feeling very disappointed. The interaction felt cold and impolite. Basic courtesy, such as saying “please” and “thank you,” was missing. I was simply told to “insert your card” and “put in your PIN,” with no polite tone or customer service approach.
It is also concerning that some employees do not appear to wear visible name badges, which makes it difficult for customers to identify who they are speaking with when they need to provide feedback.
I continue to visit this branch mainly because I live nearby, but the repeated lack of courtesy and professionalism has made the experience very frustrating. Customers are expected to treat employees with respect, and I believe customers deserve the same respect in return.
I hope someone in RBC management reviews this feedback and takes action to improve staffing, professionalism, and customer service at this branch.
Unprofessional
If I could give it a zero rating, I would. Usually I don’t even write reviews, so I’m pretty angry by this. RBC closed my personal banking account and gave me zero letter or email warning me that this would be happening. I called customer service and told them I urgently needed them to send me an email stating WHY this account was closed. The representative told me there were zero notes explaining why this account was terminated, and gave me an approximate 7-10 day wait time for the email to be sent to my inbox. Today was the 10th day, and there is still no email. I called customer service again, only to be told by a representative that the issue was only marked as a complaint, and there was nothing stating that anything has to be sent out to me in their notes. He told me he was going to put a rush on it, and that I could expect to wait a few more days. He also stated there would be a new reference number sent to my inbox, but there still isn’t a reference number over an hour later. RBC is the most broken, unprofessional bank I have ever been with. I do not recommend. Take the other negative reviews as a confirmation.
Rude security - Howard Ave Branch
Last weekend I found myself pulling into RBC on Howard, in Windsor, to withdraw additional funds for a large purchase.
As a person with physical limitations due to the long term injuries, when carrying large sums of money I bring a trusted freind, who has a service history before coming to Canada from Europe. I'm sure you can imagine, he is far faster than I am when getting out of a vehicle.
As such, he held the door as I made my way only to be rudely questioned by the security guard as to what he was doing ?!?
I immediately left, and used one of my primary bank machines.
I'm not an RBC client, and after seeing the security guard so miserable as to question an act of kindness sailed the nail that it will never happen while I'm on this marble.
Rude lady !
Extremely poor experience with RBC.
Extremely poor experience with RBC.
I was locked out of my account for several days due to repeated “technical difficulties” messages with no clear communication or resolution. I had to call and wait on hold for a long time just to find out my account had actually been closed, with no prior notice or explanation. RBC stated they were ending their banking relationship with me but did not provide a reason.
I was told a bank draft was issued and mailed, but I have not received it. This is consistent with ongoing issues I’ve had receiving mail from RBC, which was never properly addressed. I also did not receive a debit card during the first several months of having the account, only receiving one much later.
Customer service has been poor overall, with long wait times and difficulty getting clear answers.
Overall, the lack of communication, unreliable access to services, and inability to access my own funds in a timely way has made this an extremely frustrating experience.
ATM sysytem died
Their ATM. Machine lag and broke down while i am depositing a payment of $5000. Now they take away wasting my time on investigations and wouldn't even pay out my interest. Crooks!
I have been a customer with this bank…
I have been a customer with this bank for more than 30 years in the Bahamas, I have financed two real estate projects through them and it was beautiful, because at the time I was allowed to pay my mortgage and I was allowed to pay additional on the mortgage or the principal within a month or the signing of the mortgage. I have taken out another mortgage with this bank, only this time there were stipulations where I had to sign stating that I could not make additional payment towards my mortgage until one year after the date of the mortgage. I love my bank and I will always be a RBC CUSTOMER, but I am not please with the added clause that they added to their agreement.
