I had to use it for one client, it was horrible, so many problems with it, you will find one at every corner, just use woocommerce or shopify for the good of everyone

Reply from PrestaShop
Good online shopping cart. Lots of options and features. SEO friendly. Huge download and installation but worth it.
avoid prestashop at any price. First of all, I moved from Woocommerce thinking that prestashop would be better as it is a standalone solution. Then, I went to their marketplace to buy some addons. I discovered that many addons were not compatible with the last version of prestashop. More importantly, after buying addons, I had to enter my URL because there were single license stuff. However, when I installed the modules in prestashop, it didn't recognize the license. In other words, prestashop thought I stole the modules I just bought. Furthermore, cherry on the cake, for the last module I bought from their marketplace I received a message saying it took 1 day to validate the purchase before I can access the purchase.
When i looked into the community of prestashop I discovered that it was way smaller than I thought. On the other hand, when you face a problem with woocommerce someone likely found an answer on stackoverflow or on wordpress . With prestashop, there is no tutorial, no help, no active forum, very few documentation. Prestashop is clearly overrated by many people online.
The best online platform for any online store.
One of the best platforms for every niche, you can sell physical or virtual goods, it does not matter. Prestashop can be easily customizable with modules and software to suit your every need. And the backend is especially made for you to sell and update your products as easy as it can be done.
I do appreciate all the effort for this great software, and it's Free.
Prestashop is a modern and nice looking side for the customer. But completely unnecessarily complicated to serve as an administrator. Two years ago, I switched from an old OS Comerce shop, whose lack was primarily that it was not mobile-friendly. Earlier, I could do everything myself, but if you are not an expert, you should have stranger to do everything in Prestashop. Never have I regretted a switch from one platform to another as much as this one.
shitttt company, don't go there. You will have a lot of problems. Go for shopify
They make every part of the site extremely difficult to use and overly complicated. Anytime you look to set any part of your site they just push all of the pay for modules that are mostly pointless and can be done without using them, but only after spending hours looking through the many many layers of sub groups that make no logical sense.
I am also receiving endless spam from this source and cannot unsubscribe. Nor can I find a way to register a complaint online.
Appalling company.
Just Do Not Purchase anything from this company themes won't load properly.
We have built and operated our shop basing on Prestashop since 2012. At that time, it was a sensible decision because we did not have a lot of money to spend to hire qualified professionals. Prestashop was one of the few usable options.
I do not want to detail all the pains and waste of time, money and opportunities the poorly supported software and many of its poorer add-ons had caused us. However, I feel obliged to tell other would-be internet shop operators that today, you have a lot of much better choices than Prestashop, no matter you are a one person starter or a bigger company with a substantial budget.
Prestashop has developed to a point where if you do not have the resources, you will have a shop with poor SEO, a lot of bugs, and that is not entirely workable in some environment. If you have the budget or the in-house IT capabilities, the same commitment used on certain other platforms or software will give you much better results.
Our own operation has grown a lot in the years, thanks not to the software but our other efforts. Our in-house IT capabilities have also grown a lot. We have spent over half a year investigating all other alternatives and weighed the pros and cons of switching. We spent another three months in testing.
We are now a week or two before we shall launch our new shop. Developing and testing it have given us so much hope and joy that it was a far cry from the years of turmoil we had suffered from the empty promises, zero support, dysfunctional scripts and bandaged eco system of Prestashop.
Where every sale day, every budget dollar, every product, every marketing effort and every site visit are to a startup so vital to its success, I have regretted that I did not have a better choice and wasted so much of our opportunity cost. I hope you do not have to waste yours. Do more research now. Don't trust paid reviews or those that are not by people who really need to run online shops. They hurt people.
I started using PrestaShop in 2009 because at the time I was looking for an ecommerce platform that allowed to display the same website in more than one language. Prestashop is built from the ground up with that feature in mind.
One earlier versions, software upgrades had to be performed by hand, but the PrestaShop team eventually added automation to make the process much more streamlined.
Prestashop also allows you to manage your inventory in an advanced mode, an there is also the possibility to automate shipments with your order fulfillment partner.
Bought a theme and didn't worked with the last version. Asked refund. Developer accept refund but prestashop doesn't refund my money. That's why I quick understand that are ripping people off because after I bought the theme I was interested in another one and told them to keep the money and pay them the difference and give me the other theme. They say don't want because they work different. Yes they do. They are a fraud. Opened the dispute to PayPal and now I'm waiting... avoid them.
I have been using Prestashop for 3 years for 2 different eCommerce stores, so I can speak very honestly about this platform;
GOOD POINTS
1) Highly customisable (almost anything you want)
2) One-off purchase of theme or modules - you don't have to pay monthly subscriptions
3) You don't pay any % of sales to Prestashop (unlike some other platforms in certain regions)
BAD POINTS (there are quite a few!)
1) It is full of "bugs" - eg: you install a new module for something, and you find it conflicts with another module, meaning something does not work. You then have to contact the module author, see of they can fix it, if not remove it and try another one
2) You often find yourself between the module creator and another service like mailchimp or Paypal (both say it's not their problem) - so you're stuck in the middle and what can you do..?
3) After a while new bugs pop up - eg: one day you try to edit a product, and it says "Controller Not Found" (cannot edit product) - then you have to hire a developer to figure out what the problem is
4) Although it's cheap "out of the box", unless you have quite a lot of technical skill you'll find that you really need a developer to manage most customisation, module installs and bug fixes. And while they can be hired relatively cheaply in India etc.., you'll find all the constant bug fixes etc.. it starts to add up
5) Support is very slow to respond and they don't really take ownership of the problem. It always seems to be your fault
6) It has one of the slowest loading speeds amongst eCommerce platforms - which is a negative factor for both customer experience and SEO (google takes page load speeds into account)
Reflecting back on my 3 years using Prestashop, as a "solo-preneur", While my 2 sites look good and work "ok", I have had to invest so many hours of my own time to make them work. Any this was even using a developer - as you have to tell them exactly what you want, test it works, feedback etc.. And all this is time I could have spent trying to grow traffic and sales for my business..
I'm almost sad to say this because I have been a Prestashop supporter for so long and poured so much into my sites to make them the best they can be. I'm sure every platform has it's bugs, but all-in-all I've come to the conclusion it's just not worth all the hassle and as a business owner, your time is better spent on things that bring traffic and sales.
So my plan is to migrate one of my sites to Shopify in the near future. From what I understand it's a much more stable and easy to use platform that integrates well with all the major services you'll need (eg: Paypal, Mailchimp, Facebook ads etc..). And there is such a huge base of users and developers, it's just bigger and more road-tested, optimised etc..
I'm dreaming of a simpler life where things just work as they should!
All-in-all, I'd say don't waste your time with Prestashop..
I have been working with Prestashop for the past 6 years on a vast variety of ecommerce projects. Yes, the default theme is somewhat limited in its functionality but that's what commercial themes are for. Best to buy a theme framework that allows for a good variety of page layout options to customise the look you are going for. All in all, after an initial learning curve, we find that this ecommerce CMS is perfectly suited to our clients' requirements and so far we have been able to implement all configuration requirements for a broad range of business types. My only criticism would be the large number of files that need to be loaded on page view which can cause some speed issues on basic shared hosting.
I thought this would be nice and simple, but after almost a week, I have had to get my hosting company to reset everything so I can start all over again.
It comes with a very basic theme (default-bootstrap), which can't have many changes made to it. For example, you can't have a main picture with some more images underneath. I tried removing the images to the right of the slider, only to see the slider will not go the width of the page and leave a big white gap. When I tried removing the slider and replacing it with images, again, it would not allow this and simply put in a big white gap. If you want a theme more suited to your business, then you are paying for it.
Adding categories and products is easy, but getting the images to link to them is another story.
If you don't have weeks to spend trying to sort a site out, then go with something else.
I brought 1 addon with another 1 offer addon discount. They cut my money but I cannot download my purchased. It show error message in the order history. The addon owner help me alot to source out this problem better than presta staff themselves. I'm sure that this problem not from my card because I use it around all the time and never have any problem on purchasing before. What staff help me is ask me to use another card to purchase and not even mention about the money that they already cutout from my credit card! Terrible service!! Final state of this long fixing, addon owner ask me to call bank for cancel the transaction!!!
Customer service is a disaster. No one will never respond to your support requests for items you bought. You can spend money on their plugins / themes very quickly but if your shop have some problems you will NOT get any support!.
Item you bought doesn't work? No problem! There's no support and no money refund as well.!
All plugins like PayPal checkout are PAID but it should be free of charge.
Yep, their plugins are PREMIUM because you have to pay for it but....very often It doesn't work. And of course - no support.
You can try to call them and some guy with French accent will not help you at all. He will redirect you to send them a email ! Sick !!!
This is the worst company I ever had to deal with.
I am a Web Designer and will NEVER AGAIN use Presto Shop for my clients.
Waste of time and money.
Some quote from their website:
"Our vision for tomorrow
Our vision is to revolutionize the ecommerce industry with a free, simple yet powerful solution that makes it possible for anyone, anywhere in the world, to build and manage a successful online store at no cost."
You got it? "...to build and manage a successful online store at no cost." hahaha
Losers.
After i started my shop on the PrestaShop Cloud solution, I got great succes and was working on move from the cloud server to a host in my network.
First i had to pay around 200 euros just to get support. - Fair since i was using a free hosting solution.
BUT after i asked for a full copy of the shop, so i could movethe shop - i got the problems, first the backup was full of errors, missing files from the FTP, the database was missing several lines and there was no help to get, without i pay 200 euros again.
They will not answer my mails, the chat support is rejecting me, the chat is not working, keeps disconnecting and the billing service is not responding, the phone support is not responding.
REALLY ****** and BAD support.
i will never recommend Prestashop.
the customer service is just a disaster . we paid for a theme and had to wait and wait and wait .. you just get automated emails back that s it , we never got our theme
We recently decided to make the switch to Prestashop for our ecommerce platforms, we have around a dozen sites. Things were going well with our new development, we bought a couple of great modules to bolt onto the first store we were putting together, things were going well, but then.......
.....we purchased a module for our product pages, it was not developed by Prestashop themselves, but was being sold by them on their addons marketplace. Turns out the module which was not insignificant in cost, didn't work as promised on the Prestashop addons web site.
We sent a support request asking for a refund, but they just handed us off to the developer of the module, who was not interested at all in providing a refund, and wanted us to provide FTP access to our store so they could attempt to fix their code. We are not able to do this, as the site contains customer information, and providing access would put us in breach of data protection/PCI-DSS regulations.
What a waste of time and money, think we are going to look a Magento now. Do yourselves a favour and avoid this platform, their poor support, and substandard third party developers.
