Pearsons of Duns Reviews 

Whilst I think they've hoovered up most of the competition (or else the market has shrunk until they are about the only ones left here), the service is consistently good for solid fuel. Online ordering is easy, and the product range good. They've always responded quickly to queries, and the delivery driver also always good.

This was my second firewood order from Pearsons. The first was oak, and the quality was first class, as was the delivery service on both occasions.

Being so satisfied with my previous order, I subsequently ordered the same again but instead of being sent oak as ordered, I received Ash (without any prior notification).

Whilst Ash was slightly more expensive than the £148.50 Oak ordered, I wasn't charged the higher amount, which was only right. However, the wood that I received was of poor quality and surprisingly contained not just Ash but also inferior burning species such as Sycamore, Alder, Poplar and Pine (all light coloured timbers which look similar to Ash to the untrained eye).

Pearsons dealt with my complaint promptly (albeit not really addressing the issues of quality and mixed species) and offered a £10 credit to my account.

From ordering, very easy , and dealt with a very friendly person . From ordering to delivery we were kept informed to status of order- delivery was left exactly where asked, with proof of delivery sent to me.
Invoice followed promptly.

Delivery quick, and coalman empties down garden into bunker, never a mess and locked up as found, I always order from pearsons, just a great service all round.

First experience using Pearsons of Duns for a woodburner chimney sweep plus open fire chimney sweep and they were excellent. Very thorough and clean. Gave me feedback as to the amount of soot that came down and the quality of fuel we had been burning and checked over the stove and pointed out a loose brick in the fire to be fixed. Total contrast to a previous company who gave no feedback at all. Highly recommend!

Lovely food great service

Does anyone else feel like me. Pearsons (POD hire) I have just been informed that they are raising their price for rental of a POD. They have raised it from £74 to £89 that is approximately 21%. I cannot think of anyone raising their prices by that much not even the Council. What do they do for this?

So far so good. 2 orders delivered and left in the correct place as requested. Ordering was easy and enquiry about buying dross was answered promptly. Will I continue using Pearsons to supply my fuel? Yes!

Rarely have work done in the house where I’m entirely happy with the outcome but Pearsons installation of our wood burning stove was perfect and I’m completely happy with the end result. Everyone involved was professional, friendly and good at their job. Wasn’t the cheapest quote but reasonable and worth every penny.

We have recently started using coal and Pearsons were recommended to us by neighbours. The lady who took our first order went out of her way to get our delivery to us even though it was out of the two week delivery cycle. Wouldn't go anywhere else ,a very reliable and friendly company.

Just had chimney swept, excellent service by trained professional. Area prepared and protected, stove inspected and chimney swept, all tested on completion and area left in pristine condition- all in all an EXCELLENT job and would highly recommend

5 star, Best service for coal and firewood around Berwickshire

If I could give no stars then I would.
Booked to have our yearly chimney sweep for our log burner that was installed by these muppets (Dec 21) this coming August 4th 2024, but because my husband raised an issue because we were told the first clean was free when the installation of the log burner was taking place in Dec 21 then denied it when we booked the first clean in 2022. They begrudgingly lowered the price instead of the free sweep. We booked them again last year 2023, for a sweep, no problem. We booked this years clean in early (for Aug) a few weeks ago, only to get an email from them this morning to say they no longer want our business. Husband rang them to find out why. He spoke to the woman who sent the email and she said it was because of the issues from a previous sweep (we had no issues on the sweep) so really couldn’t understand the reason for the email and wouldn’t give a proper explanation as to why.
I think it’s not just because of the complaint of the free sweep, but was because we had to claim on our insurance for smoke damage to our lounge after they fitted the log burner in Dec 21.
When they fitted the log burner, we were given no instruction booklet, only a quick “how to start the fire” from the installation guy. We had used the log burner on Christmas Day without a problem.
On Boxing Day morning, husband decides to light the burner as per installers instructions. All of a sudden a huge plume of arid smoke bellowed below the log burner and filled our lounge with smoke. The smoke detectors were going ballistic. We had to open all the windows to try to get the smoke out but it got worse because there were still logs burning in the burner. We had no option but to call the fire brigade. Luckily they were only based down the road and it took them ages to try to get the smoke to subside. They were here for almost 3 hours trying to sort the burner and clear the smoke which by this time it had travelled all over the house.
We had to get the insurance company out as we had a lot of smoke damage. We had only just finished renovations on the house and the log burner was the last thing to be installed and we had just finished painting the lounge the week before Christmas. Every thing in that room was smoked damaged.
We rang Pearsons the following day and explained what happened, they sent one of their guys out to check the stove. He explained if you get smoke like this, you should do what it says in the instructions. We said we didn’t get instructions. He then produced the booklet with instructions, if this sort of thing happens.. We said a bit late now don’t you think!
The insurance company tried to claim back from Pearsons, but they wouldn’t accept responsibility, even though the fire brigade said there was a problem with the stove and that shouldn’t have happened.
The insurance company eventually dropped the claim against them as they didn’t have enough evidence to claim back from them). (Our insurance did pay out for all the damage from the smoke we ensued) We couldn’t use that room for weeks and had to redecorate the whole room again. And deep clean rugs, replace a smoke damaged TV, curtains etc.
Not one person apologised from Pearsons of Duns.
Now they have decided they don’t want our business or to service the log burner they installed.
So we have an expensive crappy log burner. We have now been told by a more reputable company that we need a different cowling on the outside chimney and an extension to the chimney to stop this happening again. As I said Pearsons of Duns no longer want our custom because 1) It’s either because of the free sweep, or 2) because the insurance company tried to make a claim against them and they didn’t like it…
Just beware about buying log burners from this company. They obviously don’t know how to fit them properly and refuse to help when things go wrong by sending emails to say they no longer want our business
Should you complain. (Heard it happens a lot from them). Shame on them..
If this is the way they conduct their business, they deserve to go under..
Do not buy log burners from here as if you have cause to complain about anything, they’ll send you an email to say they no longer want your custom. Awful company.
We now have two reputable and reliable company’s (who actually know what they’re doing) one to clean the chimney (which was done this afternoon) He found the glass on the door needs replacing and theres a crack already on the back plate (stove is just over 2 years old and had very light usage) We now have a new stove maintenance team that will be servicing the stove and replacing the part that Pearsons of Duns refuse to service for us. It clearly shows they are just a bunch of cowboys and less than useless as a company..
Will never buy anything from there again..
We Should have listened to the locals about their bad reputation and service..

Bought several bags of the 5 star ovals to burn. When these bags were home & opened the ovals were very wet & not able to be burnt. Absolute disgrace that a coal merchant is selling products of this standard without telling the customer.
2 journeys back & forth = 100miles driven.
Returned & refunded without an apology. Terrible service. Never again.
