Shockingly terrible

I paid for goods using PayPal. They took the funds from my bank account but failed to pay the seller. Therefore my goods were not delivered. I asked the seller to dispatch them. They refused because they were unpaid. PayPal insisted they had paid and refused to refund me. I was stuck with no funds and no goods. I was literally unable to speak to PayPal. I was stuck in their automated system and got no assistance whatsoever. Then they closed my case. No appeal available. Shockingly bad service.

Paypal in the past I've lauded them…

Paypal in the past I've lauded them this ends now .. they send you msgs concerning your imaginary complaints I.e complaints you've never made which are totally fiction to tell you they've investigated and have found you to be a LIAR . And that's it case closed ...ive learnt a whole heap about this American carpetbagger outfit and will not be using them again after I finish off what I owe...they come up with bs crap about some fictitious complaint when none was made. Ive no idea what they're on about ...yet they tell me ive made a complaint ..!!!???? It seems if you ask a question to them it's a complaint they resolve your question for you to then find out to paypal it's not an ordinary question it's a complaint . Then all of a sudden you'll get what they term a msg' saying blah blah blah we've investigated your complaint ( WHAT COMPLAINT?????) ....Then to be told they've found against you ?????? They don't tell you what the complaint was but they've concluded you are lieing about something you know nothing of as regards to a complaint .. All this bs can be traced back to a question you've asked thats been answered end of story ....right????? No wrong ...its been unbeknownst to oneself advanced to a complaint . How do they get away with this ? And what purpose does it serve ?? I've no idea , but in my case it tells me pay them what you owe then get the hell out of there... period ...

Do PayPal listen to the lived experience of customers?

We ordered a sauna back in Nov 2025 with complete trust in PayPal and the merchant.
We paid with PayPal.
When we ordered we did not receive any proof of purchase/ payment from the merchant.
We paid with PayPal
We contacted PayPal raising a resolution .
The merchant emailed us proof of purchase/payment.
We contacted PayPal to close the resolution.
When we closed the resolution we gave PayPal clear written instruction to pay the merchant.
Pay the merchant because the ‘missing’ proof of purchase/payment has now been received by us.
We are happy to proceed with payment were our exact words
We have been in constant communication with the merchant about the delivery of the sauna since January 2026.
Delivery of the sauna has repeatedly been delayed.
Last week the merchant contacted us to tell us they have not received our payment and we need to contact PayPal requesting a refund and pay a different way if we still want the sauna.
We contacted PayPal and our bank Starling.
Starling paid PayPal who paid the merchant.
According to PayPal the resolution was closed in Nov 2025.
According to Starling, we have to contact PayPal.
On 17th April 2026, we contacted the merchant requesting a refund.
The merchant told us to contact PayPal.
According to PayPal the resolution for this transaction is closed and the next step is an appeal.
The merchant told us to contact Starling.
We contacted Starling.
We did not pay by credit card.
The relationship between Starling and PayPal is by direct debit.
I cannot get through to a human being at PayPal.
Everything is automated.
Starling cannot take action against the merchant, only PayPal.
According to Starling, we need to contact PayPal.
Full circle.
The bottom line is we purchased the sauna from the merchant not from PayPal.
The merchant is quite within their legal and moral right to choose to issue a refund to a customer and would have done so.
PayPal never gave the merchant a fair and equal chance to do business with us.
Finding out there is a problem with payment 5 months after paying for a product (the sauna) is simply not fair and equal.
Today out of desperation I tried to circumnavigate the 'non-human' robotic PayPal resolution centre.
I tried to raise a second resolution but failed because the option to raise a 2nd resolution about a resolution that has already been raised and closed does not appear possible on PayPal.
I did try and failed to raise a 2nd resolution.
PayPal refused the claim.
Full circle.
No refund.
No help.
No support.
No sauna.
So I submitted a complaint to PayPal.
Our complaint was closed almost with immediate effect with an email saying the case is closed and was closed in your favour and you have already received a refund
We check our PayPal statement
We check our Starling bank account statement
No refund,
No money.
No £5.5k
We contact Starling bank who take out an indemnity claim against Paypal
Next we receive an online banking app notification letting us know the ‘missing’ money is back in our account
PayPal are perfectly within their legal, moral and ethical rights when closing a case to make a payment to a merchant on behalf of a customer or not make a payment to merchant on behalf of customer
What is in question is whether PayPal are within their legal, moral and ethical rights when closing the case to keep secret the fact that they have not paid a merchant on behalf of a customer especially when that said customer has given clear written permission for PayPal to send payment and pay the merchant on behalf of the customer.
Whose money is it anyway?
Thank you for listening and take care out there everyone. :)
Only time and effort will tell whether we can trust online merchants or financial institutions again.
For clarity, a refund in full has now been received and our PayPal account cancelled by us with immediate effect.

Conspirators in a Scam

On 1/7/26, I made a subscription via a deceptive advertisement via an app called Madmuscles using PayPal (b/c i believed that to be safer than putting my CC# on the net
(I believed the cost to be $9.95 for a trial ). An hour later, while checking my emails, i noticed 3 back2back emails from PP indicating charges from Madmuscles for $9.95,29.95, & 49.95, i immediatly sent an email to MM questioning the charges, informing them i only auth the charge of $9.95, informing them to cancel my subscription immediatly and issue me a full refund, i checked my CC 10 days later and noted the charges had NOT been refunded, so i again emailed MM and filed a dispute with PP, when i filed the dispute i inquired what kind of fraud controls they have in place, why was this merchant able to charge my CC 3 consecutive times, for higher amount each time. I never received a clear response. They took limited info regarding my dispute and advised i would recv a response within 72hrs. 24hrs later, i received an email informing my claim had been denied as i was bound my the Terms and conditions i agreed to when i subscribed (Although I canceled within an hr of my purchase, and never utilized their services). I also noted that PP collected a transaction fee for each consecutive charge. In any case, I filed a dispute directly with Amex, who took detailed info and requested any info i had to substantiate my claim, which I provided. Within 72 hours, Amex issued me a full refund. i intend on cancelling my PP account b/c they did NOT serve me well a clear case of deceptive adv.

Trying to send money thru Pay Pal to a friend

I was trying to send a friend of mine some money and this was first time I ever tried this feature and Pay Pal blocked me from using. They said they were trying to protect me from scam. I called customer service and they gave me run around. I provided all security questions and they suggested I mail a check. I said duh!!!! I didn’t want to mail check I wanted to use this feature so my friend didn’t have to wait on our very slow mail system. They would never give me a good reason why they keep saying protecting me from possible scam.

Unfair Account Ban – No Explanation, No Justice

I am extremely disappointed with PayPal. My account was permanently deactivated even after I provided full ID verification, supplier invoices, and all requested documents. There was no suspicious activity, no policy violations, and no linked accounts involved.

Despite fully cooperating and submitting everything they asked for, PayPal still decided to permanently limit my account without any clear explanation. This feels completely unfair and unprofessional.

What’s worse is the lack of transparency. They hide behind generic responses and don’t give users a real chance to defend themselves. For a company handling people’s money, this level of irresponsibility is unacceptable.

I trusted PayPal for my business, and this is how they treat legitimate users. Be very careful — your account can be shut down anytime without reason, and you may lose access to your funds.

Absolutely unreliable and frustrating experience. I would not recommend PayPal to anyone serious about running a business.

Appalling and unreliable for business purposes

This company has the worst custimer service for a business customer. They will notify you of frauduent use of your account but still put the payment through. They will waste time in calls and rather than deal with issues and escalate on your behalf they will keep putting you through to colleagues. The website is poor with a chat function which is uniquely abrupt and unhelpful. Then as you're trying to navigate to find help, there are multiple pop ups for feedback. I have just been cut off after being on hold to repeat my complaints to the third person. The first person was rude and incompetent. The second person helpful but could not handle the complaint. I have been on the phone for an hour. I had the sane experience a year ago and thought it was a one off. I have now decided not to use PayPal for my business. A frustrating organisation that is not fit for purpose.

Mishandled dispute, wrong categorisation, and charging interest on a clear merchant failure

I am currently in a dispute with PayPal Credit involving a return to LEGO worth nearly £500.

The facts are simple:
• The items were returned using a prepaid label provided by the merchant
• The parcel entered the merchant’s courier network
• The parcel was subsequently lost within that process
• The merchant has not issued a refund

This is clearly a case of “returned goods not refunded”.

However, PayPal has incorrectly categorised this as “not as described”, which is completely irrelevant to the situation. As a result, the case is being assessed against the wrong criteria, delaying resolution.

Even more concerning, while this is ongoing, PayPal continues to:
• Hold me liable for the balance
• Charge interest
• Require minimum payments

This is despite the fact that this is a dispute on a regulated credit product, where the merchant has failed to fulfil their obligations.

Instead of properly investigating the merchant, I am being penalised financially for an issue that is not my responsibility.

Customer service has been inconsistent, with no clear guidance on what additional information is required, and no proactive effort to resolve the issue correctly.

This raises serious concerns about how PayPal handles disputes under credit agreements and whether cases are being properly assessed.

I am now escalating this formally and will be taking this further if it is not resolved promptly.

Scam purchase.

Scam purchase.
I bought expensive entertainment tickets last year. Turns out it was a scam company. However, PayPal allowed them the use of their service, therefore they are responsible. They have refused to help me out and even had the cheek to tell me I should have checked reviews before purchase. This was useless advice as scammers change name constantly.
My advice to purchasers is only pay by your credit card (not the PayPal one) then you are covered under the 1974 rule. Just avoid PayPal.

Scammed online - PayPal not helpful

I ass u me d using PayPal would give me a little support in case an online purchase was not as advertised. I was so very incorrect. On the order site was a company located in North Carolina, selling linen and cotton clothing. I placed an order for 110.36. I received China shipment emails and ass u me d they were spam. After weeks of waiting for the clothing they arrived from CHINA. I ordered from a reputable company in North Carolina. I have disputed with, talked with, chatted with PayPal to dispute the rubber feeling clothing I received from China. Their resolution is paying 44+ shipping and returning the items to China. My issue, will I actually receive a refund or be out an additional $44+. Needless to say I am canceling my paypal account.

No support and no security

No support, brought a product online and used PayPal as I thought it would give me some form of security should the product not be right, how wrong I was! I ordered some prescription lens but when they arrived (4 weeks late) they wasn’t even close to what I had ordered. Tried sorting this through the company first but just got a load of excuses. Tried escalating this through PayPal who without even looking into the detail decided I had no case as “the product I was sent was a like product” admitting that it wasn’t right but similar? When this is prescription I’m not sure how you can get a like product that’s right? It’s like buying a sports car and receiving a go cart but as it has 4 wheels and a steering wheel that’s not a problem! Reviewing the trust pilot reviews for the lens company it’s clear now (should have looked before I bought but company Myrlens.com was listed as being in UK but actually based in China so I have since found out) that they are a con as every review states the same issue so for PayPal to support this kind of seller is a disgrace, I will be closing my PayPal account as offers no form of security so what’s the point.

I am deeply disappointed by the…

I am deeply disappointed by the absolute lack of willingness to communicate professionally with customers. Your current policies reflect a complete lack of respect and, frankly, a form of total geographical discrimination. Blocking verified professionals and legitimate accounts without any valid reason other than location is unacceptable for a global platform. This is not just a technical issue; it is an exclusion of global talents based on where they live.
