The course experience was quite…
The course experience was quite fragmented. Over the span of a year, the content shifted three times without any prior notice. Some of the material is significantly outdated, such as references to software requiring backups and utilizing Wizards. Initially, the course outlined a process labeled as ABC, but in reality, it was entirely different. The course promised a computerized section, offering approximately 20 pages of study material along with instructions to acquire the software. I set aside time accordingly, only to discover the process had evolved, now taking 24 hours and expanding to 180 pages of study for just 5 out of 200 marks.The content appears misaligned with contemporary standards. Regarding the ICB accreditation process, their assessment would likely be even less positive. When pursuing professional accounting qualifications with Open Study College, be sure to allocate ample time, as it may take three times longer than anticipated, potentially leaving you with less patience or grayer hair.Perhaps this is a test of resilience, challenging your determination and toughness required for client work.

I took my level 3 course, and I have to say although it was a little bumpy in the beginning with trying to understand how it worked, my tutor was brilliant and helped me through it. I really enjoyed the course and now working within education. Highly recommend them.

The course material for A Level maths has too many mistakes and the administrators refuse to address them. reply to open study college .Pure maths part 4 page 24. Using harmonic form to find max and min values of a trig function. Karen and Daren were brilliant, very friendly and helpful.

Don't bother with this company, gives wrong study information.
What ever you do, do not give your money to this company. Paid a lot of money to study GCSEs again in English, science and maths. Having only opened the biology pack the page did not make sense. Googled and the information was incorrect. I emailed and was told they have changed that page and I could have it online also. I emailed back to say I had lost faith in the company as if I continued how could I know there wasn't going to be more mistakes, I asked for a refund for my courses as the others hadn't been touched and only found the mistake on the first page. Was told I could not have a refund as it had been corrected. I could have potentially paid to sit GCSE's and got questions wrong.

We take accuracy extremely seriously, and instances like this are rare, but when they do happen, we ensure this is picked up and corrected as a priority. We also reviewed the rest of the materials to ensure they met the expected standard.
This was resolved when reported in August 2025. We do hope you decide to continue with your studies.

Inaccurate course schedule and process
The course and process were very disjointed. The course content changed 3 times in a year with no notifications that it was going to. Some of the course content is VERY out of date. For instance talking about software that needs backups and uses Wizards.
The course said that the process was ABC but it turned out to be very different.
The course says that there is a computerised section and gives around 20 pages of study and a method of how to get the software. So I scheduled time to do what appeared to be needed. Nope - process had changed and took 24 hours and the 20 pages of study had changed to 180 pages (for 5 marks of 200!!).
It seems badly out of kilter with current times.
As for the process with the accrediting body ICB their review will be even less favourable.
Ensure you have plenty of time when embarking on professional accounting qualifications with Open Study College as it will probably take you 3 x longer than you planned and with considerable less/ greyer hair than you started.
Maybe it is a test for client work - have you got the tenacity and thick skin needed...

Firstly, with regard to the course content updates, ICB periodically revises its syllabuses, assessment formats, and software requirements. These changes are often made in response to industry standards and regulatory updates. While we always aim to notify learners as promptly as possible, there are occasions where updates from the awarding body are implemented on short timelines. When this happens, our team works hard to adjust the learning materials to ensure that learners are studying the content that aligns with the latest assessment criteria.
Regarding the computerised accounting component, the ICB significantly expanded this part of the syllabus during the period you studied. This was an awarding-body change rather than an Open Study College decision.
Although the weighting in marks may appear small, the ICB expects competency across the full breadth of the content, which is why the study material is comprehensive.
We appreciate your frustration as you come to the end of your 12 month course, but please remember we're here to help and will be glad to offer an extension at no extra cost.
We wish you the very best in your continued studies and your future career, and we thank you again for raising your concerns with us.
