Despicable company

Despicable company. No respect r care for the deceased r their family. No communication. Constantly have to b chased to pick up the deceased from hosp. Arrange funeral, submit paperwork to Crem. Ask for cash. Don't respect family wishes. Collect donations which never make it to the charity it was intended. Personal effects r not returned to family. Funeral home stinks of 'weed' ! Just disgusting. Don't trust these people with Ur loved ones. They should not b in business. It took 3 month to finally lay my mum to rest !

Our family’s experience with Meadow…

Our family’s experience with Meadow Funeral Directors, Ashton-under-Lyne

I don’t normally post things like this publicly, but after what our family experienced following the death of our grandmother, we feel people should be aware of what happened to us.

Our grandmother died on 21 June. Around a week later we contacted Meadow to ask whether she had been collected from the hospital. We were told it would be done that afternoon.

Over the following couple of weeks we repeatedly called and went into the office and were repeatedly told it would be done. As far as we were aware, she still hadn’t been collected. It took approximately two and a half weeks and a family member going into the office extremely upset before she was finally collected.

We also repeatedly asked for our grandmother’s two gold rings. At one point we were told they would have to “break her fingers” to remove them. We immediately said no and said the rings could be cut off if necessary. Despite repeatedly asking afterwards, we never received the rings.

We were told they couldn’t find her funeral plan, meaning we had to explain what she had already paid for. We were completely honest about the things we understood weren’t included.

We also had concerns about the coffin/casket supplied compared with what we understood had been paid for under the plan, and about explanations we were given regarding it.

There was then the issue of charitable donations. We supplied details for an Alzheimer’s charity donation page, but Willow Wood was instead put on the order of service and a collection box was placed in the church. We know money was put into that box, including £10 by a family member. We have since been unable to establish that the money collected was donated to Willow Wood and were told that they didn’t collect anything. We have asked for a full explanation of what happened to the collection.

We were then asked for £500 cash to inter our grandmother’s ashes in the grave and were told it wasn’t included in the plan. We subsequently discovered information that led us to believe it was covered and that the actual cost involved was around £260.

Meadow eventually agreed to cover the cost and a date was arranged. Our family turned up for the interment — they didn’t. We were informed the necessary payment hadn’t been made, so it had to be rearranged.

When it was finally rearranged, we understand the forms and payment were submitted at the last minute.

This isn’t about one mistake. It was one problem after another at a time when our family was grieving and should have been able to trust the people looking after our grandmother and her funeral.

We have now submitted a formal complaint asking Meadow Funeral Directors to answer each of these issues and provide the relevant records.

Everything above describes our family’s experience and our understanding of what occurred, and we are giving Meadow the opportunity to provide its explanation.
