Donna at McGregor MacLeod recently dealt with the sale and purchase of my old a new home. These things are never straightforward , but the regular updates helped to make the process less stressful !!! We got there at the end of the day ...that's all that matters !!

I had a very disappointing experience. Initially, I was given a fee estimate of £1186. However, the final bill was £3880.
When I questioned the increase, their reply was: "We provided you with a fee estimate at the outset and cannot determine at the outset what fees will be incurred until the transaction actually begins/progresses. The fees are per our Terms of Business."

I felt completely misled by their initial estimate. There was no useful advice or transparency about the additional charges. A nearly threefold increase without prior notice or explanation is unacceptable.

They are also totally incompetent in negotiation and have no knowledge of the Edinburgh market.

Recommendation: Avoid this company. They are not clear with their fees, do not provide good advice, and lack essential negotiation skills and market knowledge.

We used McGregor Macleod in summer 2024 for the joint purchase of our property.

We have nothing but praise for the service we were provided. Our transaction was handled by Robyn Taylor who was faultless. She responded to every email, always picked up or returned our calls, and was friendly and helpful each and every time. We were in quite a long chain, and selling a property in England with a different solicitor, the difference in service was like night and day – Robyn kept us up to date, and did a fantastic job of managing the solicitors and vendors above us when our associated sale was delayed a number of times. She no doubt had a full caseload, but nonetheless, the service we received felt personal and in safe hands.

We would absolutely recommend McGregor MacLeod, and Robyn in particular. Will definitely look to instruct them again on future sales and purchases.

We dealt with Kirsty McCarten who made the process easy and stress free. She was always quick to reply to any queries we had and everything dealt with and organised for our purchase. Have always found buying a house stressful and always had to chase solicitors for updates, so it was so nice the have such a stress free process. Would highly recommend.

Kirstie was very professional and efficient throughout the sale process. When I got a little stressed she called me, rather than just emailing, to put my mind at ease. She also chased the buyer's solicitor when required, rather than just wait for a response. Thank you!

Tremendous! Really switched on people who keep to their word. Was shocked that the house move was possible in under 5 weeks. My experience with McGregor MacLeod handling the conveyancing, for my first time property purchase, was first class- from start to finish! They were very clear and professional from the outset, about what the costs would likely be and how these may vary under different circumstances. Kirstie McCarten, my solicitor, was absolutely fantastic; responsive, friendly and efficient. I felt so well looked after, throughout the whole purchase, including afterwards, when I needed to raise a few issues; Kirstie made sure to follow up on everything swiftly and was always so lovely in her manner. Made purchasing a home a lot easier with great communication and straight forward processing.

Unprofessional firm. Have 14 “experienced” staff, but can’t seem to provide deliverables on time. Poor communication, causing us to lose out on a flat. Clearly more concerned about their online reviews than customers.

I used Macleod solicitors recently to buy a property, Gurpreet was the one that dealt with it. She was great and made the process easy, highly recommended

To start with I’m a first time buyer and I had no clue about how the process of buying a property works in Scotland , even worst, the property I purchased is a Historical building which requires to look at a lot of documents before proceeding. Gurpreet made sure that I was aware of all the expenses that comes with it, bless her heart, she even called me twice and asked if I was sure from my decision to go ahead with the purchase.
Most importantly for me, she answered every call and returned every email I had send her in matter of minutes not even hours which made me feel reassured about the process ( knowing that we had some hiccups from the seller, wanting to pull out from the offer ).

Even after completion, I had a question about my energy provider at the property, Gurpreet job was done at this moment, but she still took the time to take my call and advice on what to do and problem was solved.

I 100% recommend her, such a sweet person and easy to deal with.

P.s : review made from a very grumpy person who’s usually rarely satisfied from a service but the speedy communication made me very satisfied and I’ll be using this company again in the future whenever it’s needed.

The company were very helpful right from the start I used them when purchasing my flat so was easy decision to use them again though it was a different solicitor I got this time kirstie was super helpful kept in regular contact with me and made the whole process of selling and buying my new property so quick and straightforward both sale and purchase were completed within a week of me getting my mortgage offer I would highly recommend this company and especially kirstie to anyone buying or selling a property

Have had to edit my review as the company have threatened me with a Notice of Intended Action for Defamation and Malicious Publication for simply telling the truth (probably the quickest email they've ever sent me).

Dealt with MM when purchasing my property. Everything was done at the last minute and could never get hold of them by phone either. Sometimes took a week to reply to emails.

Had some issues with the flat after move in which still hasn't been dealt with. There was no balcony door key, I had to personally contact the seller for this. The flat was also advertised with a dishwasher but there wasn't one, tried to claim for this but no luck. Think the company should take on board feedback instead of arguing with reviews and threatening legal action.

The company previous replied to my review calling me fake, a malicious coward and a keyboard warrior, saying I should be ashamed of myself for simply giving my honest opinion?
