Martin & Co Chelmsford Reviews 

I'm not someone who writes negative reviews — my review history will show as much — but the level of unprofessionalism here warrants an exception.

Libby was a pleasure to deal with during our move-in, but unfortunately the experience deteriorated significantly from that point onwards.

When we moved in, the landlords still had access to the property's CCTV system. A member of staff at Martin & Co thought it appropriate to joke to one of our relatives that they could see her on the CCTV when the alarm went off while we were away — a serious lapse in judgement around tenant privacy.

Tonia was abrasive in her handling of the tenant–landlord relationship, to the point that we found it easier to communicate with the landlords directly. Having rented over 20 properties across many years, I have never encountered this level of incompetence.

We were assured this would be a long-term rental, which was the single most important factor for us as tenants. When the landlords requested a six-month break clause, we were told it was simply for "peace of mind." Four months into the tenancy, they exercised the clause and moved back in. From there, Martin & Co made every step of the process more difficult than it needed to be.

I requested a call back from John to discuss our concerns, and that request has been ignored. It is also telling that this agency asks for reviews at the start of tenancies but never at the end.

I would think very carefully about using this company if you are a tenant looking to rent a property. All is ok until you wish to leave the property when I found correct check out procedures were followed, conversations were invented spurious claims are made about damage to 2 weeks after I had left the property. I lodged a complaint which was never responded to. Its taken me over 6 months to get my deposit back- which I did following it being taken to adjudication. If you are a tenant watch your back and document everything.

We went with Martin & Co after being with another poor estate agent who let us down. John was our estate agent and from the first contact we had with him he kept us updated regularly, always at the other end of the phone for any questions or advice. It really helped that the other part of the chain was also with Martin & Co too. We sold our house and moved within 2months of the house being up with Martin & Co. We have now moved and have nothing but happy and postive things to say about Martin & Co, John, Annie and his team. We would strongly recommend going with Martin & Co they are professional, helpful, friendly and efficient.

Very efficient service...nothing was to much trouble and kept up to date with how things were progressing...would highly recommend...

Our first time as a tenant but the team in Chelmsford made the whole exercise very easy. Quick to respond to questions either by e-mail or phone. Would highly recommend.

Very helpful. It was also good to hear from the tenant how good he found them to be. Would definitely recommend them.
