Poorly educated customer service staff

I normally get 2 discs a month (a month being between billing cycles IE 20Oct-20Nov). This month i only received one.

I logged in my account to awaiting dispatch to be told that i was indeed owed another disc and they would email me back. So far so good.

I then received an email from Balanbar (spelling?) saying i had in fact received 2 discs this month. Even the most basic look at my account can show that this isnt true. I cannot get through on the phone number provided and 2 additonal emails have been ignored.

They need to sharpen up big style. Im not banking on an apology but i should get one. I doubt very much ill get the disk.

Poor customer service

I was a customer for four years, and had joined with the email address I had on my phone at that time. Having never really had to correspond with lovefilm,I had just forgotten to change the address when I changed my phone, and never used that email account, I hadn't rented a film since last November, and still had a disc, so actually paid £120 for this disc! I got home the other day to a letter from a debt recovery firm telling me I owed £10 and had to pay within 7 days! I rang lovefilm asking what was going on, and apparently after my last debit card expired in January, they couldn't collect the money and had sent emails to my account. I asked why they hadn't sent a letter when they had no response from me,which would have been much cheaper than involving a debt recovery firm, and I would have immediately paid, they said they don't send letters. I had to go through a long process of changing my card details, I couldn't just give them over the phone, I had to do it on my account, and then tell her I'd done it. I said I then wanted to cancel my account, got through to a very confusing man who said I had last paid two weeks ago, when I questioned this, he said "oh no, you haven't". He didn't seem to think receiving letter from debt recovery companies would be upsetting in any way, tried to ask me to stay. Said I would have received a letter from them asking for the payment, when I told him I'd just been informed that lovefilm don't send letters, he just replied "oh, ok then". He wanted me to have a cheaper policy and struggled taking "no, I want to cancel" as an answer. Will now be looking for a different company.

More of a Trickle than a Stream...

Don't bother with LOVEFiLM if you love films. You won't be able to actually watch them.

This is by far the worst streaming service I have ever used. Programmes under an hour long or so are generally watchable but the service seems entirely unable to buffer films without nonstop stuttering and frame dropping. It is genuinely painful. The really baffling thing is that despite it failing so hard to play films smoothly it still manages to absolutely hog the bandwidth. Whilst trying to watch a film I cannot use the computer for anything else at all. I gave up watching something to do some work and had to wait ten minutes before even Google would load...

As for the selection of films and shows... there's virtually nothing actually worth watching. When I signed up for the Netflix trial a while back I remember watching loads of new blockbusters and old classics. Whereas here it seems like 90% of the titles available are obscure B movies, low budget indie flicks with 2 star ratings and subtitled foreign films.

Occasionally when browsing I would see something I liked... only to find it was available for DVD rental only. Which is a laughable concept in the era of high speed internet.

Reliable and very well run rental service

I joined LoveFilm on the bases that I would save a packet on video games, movies and TV shows and I do not like to pirate stream online.

Their online streaming is a little disappointing but there are good amounts of free to view movies which are regularly updated.

I have cancelled my service due to the dropping of video game rental services and the lack of usage currently but I have never experienced the problems many speak of. All my customer service dealing were well conducted and always handled with care.

The only problem I had was they never had certain films I wanted and which were on my rental list for around 3 years - it took me two years to get a copy of Akira.

Definitely a good company, not the best but excellent value for money. Cancellation was pretty simple for me, there is a link on the website to do this online - not easy to find though!

I think two stars does not represent the company in my experience and is hugely unfair.

lovefilm and hate customers

Without repeating everything that has been said, it is all true. Adding to all of that you cannot stream anything on a tablet unless it is Amazon backed Kindle Fire, that the quality is generally shocking as far as streaming goes and it works when it feels like it. Customer service is poor. You will get replies but they are all pretty generic. They care but not really!
I was with them for a few months and then joined Netflix. The difference was amazing. I am not after brand new movies but a bit of choice is good. There is little continuity with Lovefilm and their TV series for example. Netflix has more power and it shows. Top shows like Breaking Bad, Justified etc are on Netflix. Orange Is the New Black and House Of Cards are outstanding TV series which Netflix are behind. That takes budget and Lovefilm really cannot compete with that. Amazon, I wish you'd stop backing this awful service and get your instant videos in the UK...I may just reconsider. Till then, no thanks!

awful if you want to cancel!

I joined love film as an offer was on when i get free for 30 days then when become a paying customer i get a £15 amazon voucher.. which i did but when it came to cancelling 8 months down the line because i upgraded my telly box and got unlimited movies on there we had to call which i was then put through to someone who didn't understand much english and spoke really fast in a thick foreign accent so i couldnt understand a word, i had to repeat my post code 12 times before literally spelling it to him like i was talking to a 3 year old he got it rights i then had to tell him i want to cancel and he said ok il cancel it just hold..,.......... do u want to downgrade i said no i want to cancel.... he goes ok just hold................... if u ring back 5 days before next billing you wont be charged and u can cancel then and i said no, i have rung and getting charged a fortune to speak to you i want to cancel now. and he said oh erm well ok il go cancel it hold ................... i have left your account activated but you need to call 5 days before if you want i said NO. I WANT TO CANCEL NOW!!! eventually he said it will be cancelled but whether it will or not i don't have a clue, i have never had problems with them posting movies to me but this was such a joke he wasn't listening to me and i couldnt understand a word he said, what an awful way to leave love film and i wish i had read all these reviews before i joined, there should be other ways to cancel and people who speak 100% english to avoid hiccups!

Rubbish streaming service

No way as good as Netflix for streaming, constant buffering whereas with Netflix there is no problem at all. Lovefilm has a better selection of movies but this is no good if you cannot watch any of them. Don't waste your money - Netflix is reliable and works - Lovefilm is the loser it is nowhere near ready for an online service as they describe it to be.

Good service. Very sad that games have gone

I'll get this out of the way first..... Taking games rentals away was such a kick in the balls ! It was the best service by FAR and I cant understand why they stopped it.

Anyway, the movie rental service is really good. I've had my account for a long time now and Ive pretty much always had discs sent to me that I marked as high priority.
I've only had a couple of scratched discs in all my time with lovefilm and the customer services dealt with it well, sending me both a replacement copy AND the next movie on the list as a free extra rental which didnt take away from my disc limit.

The streaming service isnt as good as netflix YET but I have noticed more stuff going on since the games rentals have been scrapped and I anticipate a surge of great titles and a vast improvement now they are concentrating on movies only.
Having said this, the streaming service is decent and definitly keeps you with lots to watch in between disc deliveries (which are very fast).

I had a message on the streaming saying that LG smart TVs made in 2011 would no longer be supported as of October but Lovefilm gave me an amazon voucher code for a FREE Sony smart bluray player worth £60 so that I can still stream direct to my TV.
I was very very impressed with this move and it only increases my expectations of an already good service to become great and topple Netflix.

So, come for the service and stay for the ongoing improvements

Ruined by amazon. Where have the games gone? and no notificating of changes!

Very disappointed. Note I'm at least a 5 year long customer. One day my disks don't arrive... I ask why and they tell me that my package no longer exists and that I need to change to a new one. Ok I thought, this is just a matter of a quick change over and back to normal. So I replied to CS with an email complaining about not getting any notification of changes and received a reply stating that they were sorry but that the company wants to focus on their core business and have removed games rentals and they understand if I no longer want to be their customer. I was like, hang on a minute? 2 messages inquiring about packages and they would rather I left than tried to keep me. More fool you Lovefilm/Amazon, that's the worst up selling EVER. I won't be back until games return. Tubes

Why did you take away my streaming?

I had been a Lovefilm member for over two years and had made use of the unlimited streaming given to me after some time being a member. It meant it was pointless joining someone like Netflix as I was getting the same amount for the same price. I liked this aspect of the service and made for great value until one day they decided to take away streaming from my package and just leave me with 3 Discs a month for the same price. This after I had made use of the service and even amassed a large ''Watchlist'' of films to watch in future. I would have rated higher than a 1 but this was no way to treat any customer let alone a loyal one. It was taken away with no explanation and when I called up they had the audacity to say I hadn't been making use of the package! Is this how you treat customers? You punish them for not using their service all the time charge them the same price for the same service. Whilst there were some gems that were available to stream there were films like ''Jack Frost: Mutant Killer'' or something equally silly sounding and others such as'' Breaking Wind.'' After this experience I would encourage anyone not to join Lovefilm but to look for an alternate streaming service as that is what I enjoyed from the service most only for them to treat me like dirt as a customer. Go for something else they are not worth your custom.

Fine until you need to cancel...

I subscribed to LoveFilm for quite a while, despite not really using the service to it's fullest. The instant streaming is poor (Netflix is far superior), the way they send low priority list fillers over the new stuff is irritating, but the worst aspect is what happens when you try and cancel.

I cancelled with them in February. They are still taking payments from me, despite the customer services team claiming they aren't. As it's on a continuous payment basis, even changing my debit card hasn't helped as "they don't need all the details" (quote direct from Barclays). It seems that once they have your details, they are going to keep taking money whether you are an active subscriber or not. Essentially, they are stealing my money.

So far, I've spent hours on the phone to various LoveFilm departments. They seem to be based in a country with a thick accent and little understanding of English, judging from the number of times I've had to ask for clarification or had to repeat what I've said. Frustrating!

I've finally resorted to emailing LoveFilm's Operations Director, Fern O'Sullivan (fern.osullivan@lovefilm.com) directly in the hope that she can pass my complaint on to someone that can sort the problem out. Judging from their track record so far, I'm not holding my breath.

I'll update this when they respond, however.

Avoid.

Fraud!

DO NOT USE THEM!

They offered me a two month free trial with credit vouchers I put in the codes to come back. These codes would not work, so tried several times. They ended up taking four payments from my account! After I had complained and informed them, they still took it out several days. I have emailed them and they say it will take 5 -7 working days to be approved and refunded. This was after finding they took two payments, I then discovered another two so have now had to email them again. It is fraudulent and a mis selling of their products. I would not recommend them due to this situation and their poor choice of films available instantly. DO NOT USE! I have read feedback on this site and a lot of it is negative, which is bad news for the brand, but they appear to not care as they keep repeating the same bad customer service and poor business mistakes.

AVOID!!! - take money from your account without permission, rubbish customer service and awful cancellation procedures.

Trying to cancel Lovefilm is very very difficult. There customer service is rubbish. I have probably sent them 20 emails, and they refuse to read the email and just send back a standard response that doesn't relate to my email at all.

I originally ordered a 6 month subscription for my niece via Groupon. I was assured that once the subscription ended I wouldn't be charged further as I wouldn't want to continue beyond the 6 months. But of course they did take money from my account without my knowledge or permission. Trying to get them to stop has been so much hassle as the account isn't in my name but my niece. I've had to stop the payments with my bank because they wont.

AVOID at all costs. Also their range of films/tv are rubbish and no where near as good as some of the other providers.

Lovefilms but can't watch them!

Having been a customer of lovefilm years ago on a disc delivery basis and after using netflix for over a year now I thought I would try lovefilm's on demand service.

Now netflix is far from perfect with content, however there is a reasonable selection, I can watch them whenever and wherever I please, and I never have problems with streaming or buffering.

Lovefilm however is awful in many ways, I couldn't stream anything through my PS3 due to constant buffering and once you leave a wi-if area you cant watch anything full stop. Now imagine a modern media demand service which has no mobile connectivity in 2013.

Poor content, poor connections, poor UI

Not much else to say really

Good films but you can't watch them!!!

I took the free trials with both Lovefilm and Netflix... Lovefilm were by far the worst.

Whilst they had a good selection of movies, every film I tried to watch would either constantly pause whilst buffering or display an error saying there was a problem with the service.

Cancelled the trial soon after and won't go back. Prefer Netflix as never had these problems with them.

Constant scratched discs and the customer is never right

The only problem I really had for the first few months was them sending badly scratched discs that didn't work. They were quite OK with me returning these and did in fact give me extra rentals as compensation. However they really let themselves down when a disc they sent out did not turn up.

On reporting the none receipt of my rental they sent me out some sort of standard reply which implied I had a number of lost discs recorded on my account, when this was in fact their first failure to deliver! All other rentals had a arrived and been returned successfully. They warned me that if it happened again they would most likely cancel my account. On balance they did also imply that it might be the fault of royal mail or some unforseen security issue at my address but as I live alone that cannot be the case. I can understand them blaming delivery services, but blaming a good customer after a first incident where there is no indication whatsoever that I was at fault, it's just cheeky.

So overall the service would get 4 stars, but the numerous scratched discs, the bad customer service and accusations, lose them a whole 2 stars.
