Once enrolled we found this totally inflexible and not at all like we thought when we enrolled. We had no support and the technology was overwhelming. It would be better to teach yourself as no help finding exam centres. Very difficult to get hold of the teachers and no communication. Although going to very few lessons and highlighting problems learning they require money. This is more of a business than considering the needs of the children. Make sure it’s what you expect before signing up to this. My child came away with zero qualifications.

I received a very informative call from Florence who explained very well the school curriculum and admission process. I really appreciated her welcoming and hospitality during the call.

I am extremely disappointed with the way the exam staff at this school handle their responsibilities. They are irresponsible and unresponsive—emails go unanswered, and phone calls are either ignored or met with vague replies and no real solutions.
My son has been waiting for his certificate for over a year, and because of this delay, he has lost an entire academic year. Despite multiple attempts to get help or clarity, nothing has been resolved.
This level of negligence is unacceptable, especially when it directly affects a student’s future. Based on our experience, I do not recommend this school to anyone considering it.

The admissions support staff had a tone of voice that was very warm and welcoming, and it spot on made me feel at ease talking to her. We had a very comfortable and engaging conversation and over and above finding out more about my enquiry, she gave me a brief yet punchy overview of what to expect for my daughter as she plans to undertake her IB Diploma. She was extremely efficient too, because shortly after the call, I received an email with all the necessary information and requirements needed for us to proceed to the next step. Really looking forward to being a part of this vibrant community.

I have two kids at Kings Interhigh and it's the best thing I could have done for them. They've done in-person private school; they've done state school; neither worked for their personalities. Now they're happier, learning better, and more sociable outside of school hours as well!

When I first researched KIH for my Year 9 daughter who was struggling with the social demands of face-to-face school, I noticed that most of the reviews were about the initial enquiry process and not about the actual school. Surprise surprise, they asked for a review before my daughter had even started so I decided to wait until she had been there for 6 months and then write a more meaningful review which I hope will be useful to people.
Overall, KIH is a good online school for children who are self-motivated to learn. It provides a good structure to take children through the curriculum and their exams. You can do well if you make the effort.
However, it’s not very good for children who are not motivated about their education (or whose parents are unable to force them through it). That’s because there are no consequences for not attending lessons or doing the work. Some examples:
- For children who have opted to do lessons live, there’s an attendance summary in the Parent Portal. This is updated between a few hours to 1 day late so you can see later if your child missed a lesson. The school take no other action when children miss lessons. Parents can then encourage the child to do the lesson late (they’re all recorded) but there’s no way for parents to see whether the child actually did this.
- For “Library learners” who can do their lessons at any time, there is literally no way for parents to know if a child has done a lesson (unless they physically watched their child doing it). This is a huge problem.
- Upcoming homework tasks appear in a To Do list on the Student Portal homepage, which is great. However, if a child misses a deadline then the task disappears from the To Do list and is buried away deep down in the course section, hard to find. The school don’t notify the child or parent that they missed the task, which is ridiculous and the exact opposite way to motivate children to do their homework!
The school buys an archaic software package from Microsoft which doesn’t meet the needs of modern online education. While they provide induction courses, it’s still incredibly difficult to use and navigate. Vital information, past lesson recordings, grades, homework assignments etc. are hidden away behind an unnecessarily complex navigation structure and it would take the average child (and parent) several months to get their heads around. The poorly designed software gets in the way of education rather than enhancing it - you’re fighting with it all the time.
The quality of the teaching seems fine and the lessons are equivalent to normal school lessons. Beyond that, the children are set very little meaningful work so they don’t learn the skills they need for their exams. Some examples:
- Nearly every homework task is a multiple choice quiz. This is easy for teachers to mark but doesn’t use children’s brains in the right way to reinforce what they’ve learned in class.
- Very occasionally, the school will set an actual piece of work such as a piece of writing or essay. The children are completely unprepared for this because they’ve had so little practice, and don’t know what to do. If the child doesn’t already have that skill then the parents need to teach it. Often the first time they’re asked to do something like this is in an exam, which isn’t fair as children should be doing these things regularly.
- The teachers don’t seem to get to know the children at all. For example, my daughter is above average intelligence and received glowing praise from the teacher when she got 50% in a test. The teacher should have known that she was working below her ability and encouraged her to do better. Average seems to be good enough.
I was worried about the social impact of enrolling my daughter in online school, but was reassured that KIH said the children can make friends with each other and have cameras and microphones on in class. This isn’t really true because they’re optional, so the majority of children never turn on their camera or mic. This makes the children less real to one another so they don’t make friends as much unless they’re naturally very sociable. The school offers a good choice of social clubs and an online chat forum. My daughter doesn’t use them and I wish the school would force everyone to use cameras because maybe then she’d start to get to know the other children.
So overall, KIH is a useful vehicle for accessing education online. However it’s not a proper school and unless your child is motivated and mature enough to take full responsibility for their education, you should view it as a tool or resource rather than a full school experience.

Awful 'school'. Plagued by IT issues, finance mistakes and poor service. My son has now thankfully left but the problems continue with passive-aggressive emails and no one person to take responsibility or willing to sort out the problems (caused by their system).
My son missed out on social interactions and curriculum content. Now being remedied by in-person schooling. I certainly wouldn't recommend this business but can say it is definitely a business. Our family feels very let down and as a result I feel very angry.

Best decision ever! The teachers are super positive and make learning fun. High-quality education without stress. Only regret we have is that we haven't made this change sooner.

Really impressed with the results of our first term at KIH. Great quality teaching and supportive pastoral care, with many thoughtful details fine-tuned to the needs of SEND students.

Very expensive for what it is. Marking system feels really inaccurate i.e. for English my daughter was an 8 in the autumn term an now a predicted 1 in the Spring term which feels very destabilising. I don't feel the system analyses all submissions. The marks she gets each week are not reflected on the parent portal. You also get hit by some random charges like a new £50 technology fee which should have been included last September. Exams are very expensive too. Maths is taught at a low level but then the tests are at a much higher level which causes a lot of additional stress so I am researching into private tutors to support this area. We do not know why more complex maths is not taught to match the exam style questions. My daughter is currently year 10. Really hoping year 11 picks up. My daughter is severely autistic and can't handle the idea of changing schools even though she is not happy with the Kings online system.

A brilliant alternative to mainstream education. Kings InterHigh allows my son to work as a professional performer and keep on top of his education.

The teachers are dedicated and helpful, classes are nice and small, it's like a tutoring school, so great for children who have motivation. Only complaint is that we don't sometimes get any respond from admin for inquiries at all, so have to keep asking.

My daughter has really enjoyed studying and learning with Kings Inter-high. We have tried different online schools but this is the best for us.
Great communication, she loves the enthusiasm from all the teachers and the cost of the school is good compared to other online schools.

Our experience has been really good. There are some subjects that are harder to do online such as Art but other than that our experience has been excellent. Our son has become his old self again after a poor experience at B&M secondary school.
