Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 47 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many buyers frequently complained about poor product quality, observing that soles quickly separated from the shoes and various materials cracked or fell apart after minimal use. Consumers also expressed deep frustration regarding unhelpful customer support and high prices that did not match the declining durability of the footwear. The minority of people were satisfied with the initial comfort and fit of their purchases, finding certain styles comfortable for daily wear and specialized needs. Some customers also shared positive experiences when buying select durable shoes that successfully stood up well over extended periods of time.

Sadly for such an expensive boot

Sadly for such an expensive boot, the quality is shockingly bad. I would have expected them to last more than two years. I’m old, only walk a dog and only used the boots in winter on easy terrain. I have had much much cheaper boots that I had worn in my younger years that had outlasted my expensive Keen boots by ten years. Comfortable they are but not worth the price

My go to shoe brand for work.

I really like all the keen shoes and boots I have purchased. I did have a pair of the hiking shoes fail but they gave me a 120 dollar credit towards another pair of shoes. Not sure if some of the negative reviews stem from buyers purchasing the shoes from non authorized shops or not.

I've been a loyal customer of Keen for…

I've been a loyal customer of Keen for many years. I have stuck with one particular shoe(Targhee 3 in grey/blue) that I really liked and have ordered probably a dozen pairs. They discontinued that color of shoe this year and i decided to go with what comparisons said was a similar shoe (Voyagur in grey/blue). It isn't the heel on these is much higher and positions my foot in a way that hurts my knees and toe because me feet slide forward. I contacted Keen to see if i could make an exchange for a current color combination in the Targhee 3's but they were unwilling to work with me. Now I'm apparently just out the $150. Kind of puts me off of a brand I have really liked for a long time.

Probably the most uncomfortable shoes I have ever worn! My first pair were pretty good, 2 more pairs sucked and I have an insulated pair I figured I would give a try, they’re worse than the others. they will be going in the garbage. I’m never buying another pair again

Poor Customer Service & Quality Control

I’ve owned multiple pairs of Keens over the past 15 years and loved them, until now.

I ordered my usual size 7.5, but they arrived a FULL size too small with visible suede defects. I contacted customer service with photos, hoping for a reasonable resolution.

Their response? “Sizes vary between manufacturers” (despite being the exact same model) and outright denial of any defects, even with photo evidence. I had to repeat myself multiple times as they ignored key issues.

The shoes are sold out, so I requested a partial refund for the sizing error and defects. I was flatly refused.

After years of loyalty, I expected basic accountability when quality control failed. Instead, I got corporate deflection and zero willingness to make things right beyond a basic return.

I cannot recommend Keen to anyone based on this experience.

I felt lucky to order the last pair of…

I felt lucky to order the last pair of leather sneakers in my size. The shoes were received by me in an acceptable time. Unfortunately, the shoes appear to be a return item to Keen, who inturn, sold to me. The shoes did not come with cardboard supports, they were laced incorrectly, the tread were slightly worn, and when I tried them in I could immediately tell that the cushioning had already been pressed down. I reviewed on the Keen website. Keen failed to post my 2 star review. No more Keens for me.

Skimping

I asked for a pair of hiking boots for flat feet. I've had several pair, but couldn't see what type they were. I thought they were MT Carmel or something like that, but the Keene rep said they were Pyrenees. All of my boots were a darker brown color and the picture showed the same. I got a light brown color. So I guess thats fine. Im still determine if they are for flat feet. They seem more narrow than before which causes some discomfort, but im waiting for it to workitaelf out this week. ow here is where I'm throwing the curve ball for you readers. What is up with the shoe laces? They used to give you pleanty of length, but now you can barely tie a bow at the top. Lord help you if you are hiking and have to use only a portion of shoe lace which is what they gave you in the first place. So Keene, stop skimping on the small things. I would rather ypu give give one set of long shoe laces instead of the two.sets of shot ones. Thank you for reading.

The Keen Versacore Speed tennis shoes…

The Keen Versacore Speed tennis shoes came with too short of shoestrings and the tongue will not stay in place. Keeps moving far to the side where you can see your socks. I have tried lacing them all different ways and can't seem to correct the issue. Drives me crazy! Appears the tongue is too narrow?? Save a few pennies on materials??? My first and last pair of Keens. Bought them a few months back but are hardly worn but I'm still upset enough to share this review. Buyer beware!!

Very poor material quality

The boots suffered a catastrophic material failure on nothe shoes specifically within minutes of stepping of a train. The soles did not simply delaminate; the polyurethane structure completely disintegrated. I have confirmed this was not caused by chemical exposure, as the crumbling material caused no skin irritation upon contact.

They don't care about women

I've had 7 pair of Keen shoes, sandals and boots. The work boots were underwhelming as they simply couldn't hold up to hard railroad labor. My guess is that it was just that the women's work boots were produced to less hearty standards than the men's. Today I saw an ad for their USA made boots. But when i went to shop for a pair I discovered that the only made men's styles in the USA. Nothing USA made for women. I won't be back. This is a terrible business practice.

They stand by their products

Been a customer for years. Shoes are durable and fit well. Bought Targhee IV but the stitching came undone after little wear. Took them back and was given a refund. It’s great to see companies like this stand by their products. Positive experience means I’ll buy the Targhee Vs when they come out!

Absolutely horrible causes painful…

Absolutely horrible causes painful sores on feet from shoes made incorrectly and sharp buts sticking out. Caused injuries on both my feet and my severely cognitively disabled child s feet. ( bought 2 pairs)Customer service (after weeks of trying to get in contact) were unhelpful. . offering a return( they are our only shoes atm) or an exchange when i mentioned i didn't want an exchange for fear of the same thing happening , i never heard back. I sent pictures of our injuries and everything. I should have read the reviews it seems this is a common issue. . so the fact that they are still selling a product they know causes injuries tells me all i need to know about this company. This is not the fir time ive bought keen. . but it will be my last.
Keen responded to the review in a way that says they absolutely did not read and or comprehend what I wrote and do not care about what I, my child and others have experienced.

Customer service is horrible

I can’t speak to the quality of their shoes but their customer service is the pits. I thought I would try a pair but they were too wide so I returned them for a refund. They sent another pair the same size and then wouldn’t respond to email. It took chat to connect with anyone and they hung up on me with an automated reply. Finally got another RA link in email after almost 2 weeks. No, “hey sorry” or “we screwed up and we’ll fix it”.

Keen is a GREAT brand

Keen is a GREAT brand. Not only do they let you wear the footwear OUTSIDE and return it if youre unhappy, they really do have comfortable boots.
My first pair of Keens was a work boot. I just bought right off line and I was so happy. Perfect fit. Loved them so much I bought a winter pair. A little tight on sizing when it comes to an insulated pair but just get a size up. No problem. I will be coming back! Let me know if you need an ambassador. I really love this brand.

I’ve been wearing Keens for years and at this point I just can’t part with the cost for a substandard shoe any longer. Less than 6 mos old and the soles are falling off. Shoe didn’t fit like those from the past either. I read the reviews where Keen was having issues but thought I’d find out for myself, and I did. Their quality is so bad and the shoe so uncomfortable it’s time to start to find another brand as Keen has turned into trash. Sad to see this American made company sell out and their product turn to garbage.

Worst boots I've ever bought!

Bought a pair of mens Targhee 111 mid height boots just over a year ago. Have worn them once or twice a week for an average 7 mile walk. Firstly the rands started to crack then the upper started to separate from sole around the edge of the boots. They stopped being waterproof after only 9 months and now the sole on one boot is completely coming away from the upper. I have owned a number of different makes of walking boot over the years and the are definitely the worst I have ever had. Unwearable after just over 12 months - a complete waste of money!

Shoddy Boots

I so wish I'd read these reviews before purchasing. I bought a pair of Keen boots some years ago which were fine. When they began to fall apart, I bought another. Then Keen said they were withdrawing from the UK market, so I bought yet another pair for future use (my feet are a problem size...) Big mistake! After very little wear, Pair Number 2 have both split in two places. From what I have read, I'm not holding out much hope for Pair Number 3.

I'm unable to backdate this entry. Pair Number 2 was bought in November 2024 but I only started wearing them 4 or 5 months later and they're no longer any good.
