I found Hannah’s experience with Dad Jones nothing like mine when Dad Soady collapsed. His was absolutely fantastic. Mark you, that was about 13 years ago. I found myself reading “in a Welsh accent” and being simultaneously amused and and saddened by what happened to Dad Jones.

Whilst it’s all true and well written it’s the best laugh I’ve had in ages

I was taken ill with the symptoms of a stroke. After being told by 111 that an ambulance would be over 2 hours late due to so many asking for an ambulance for flu symptoms, the ambulance arrived three hours late. After finding me slightly not with it,they informed my husband I would be taken to A&E, I refused to go and sit in a room with dozens of people waiting to be seen . I knew my symptoms were serious and told the ambulance staff I was not going into any A&E. They considered my problem,and spoke to the stroke unit ward in Durham. They said to bring me there,they had a spare bed,and I would be given an MRI immediately I arrived. This did happen,and a consultant said I had suffered a blood clot on my brain,and had been given attention immediately for this. I was there for three days,and given the best care that they had, this was with overfilled wards,and too many staff rushed off their feet.I thank God that I was given this treatment as soon as possible,as I would not be here now. I thank God for our NHS, may it be given the support they deserve. More trained staff, less hours,and a pay rise. Will anyone listed? I certainly hope so.

She writes grammatically and can spell (not many people can) so it’s a joy to read. I hope her dad has made a complete recovery despite the trauma of his fall and negative experience of the NHS.

I can easily empathise, as I went through similar experiences, but the humour you brought into your account made your arguments more balanced, entertaining and easier to absorb the reality that NHS is a mess, at the moment. Thank you for making me smile, in spite of the sad reality. 😀

Hannah Jones latest report of the situations that she came upon whilst her poor dad was admitted to hospital was really well written and will strike a chord with everyone who has had the misfortune to have to visit hospital with a sick and vulnerable parent. The experiences that she encountered with her dad would sadly not be seen as uncommon but is still sad. Thank you Hannah, and I hope that you and your parents are well.....

It's okay, but I had to use the NHS twice last October in emergencies and they were marvellous. Both times there were 2 old ladies (I am one myself) on the ward who had nowhere else to go and they were stuck there. They're not really bed blockers just waiting for a care home to take them. The nurses worked so hard and were so kind but absolutely flat out on duty all the time

Do not expect a rant from Hannah Jones (Editor in Chief) about her hospital experiences. Disgraceful to use this platform to vent her anger.

My goodness thank God for your editor chief Hannah. She has just put into words all that was done to me or not done for me on my second Scarborough hospital visit in two years. The first in December 2023 when like your dad I fell while putting on the lights for my Waitrose home Xmas delivery. I managed somehow to crawl like a toddler,(but am 83) to get to the stairs hoping to be able to pull myself up but coudnt. I did manage to pull my phone off the ball table and ring my brother in law for help. He came along with my gardener to try and lift e up but they couldnt, yes I'm heavy but not grotesque. They rang 111 who said it could be several hrs as they were busy ad too cover me up. Luckily I had a heated throw, but I was on cold wooden floorboards. 4hrs later two slim ambulance girls arrived and couldn't lift me and the air cushion wasn't working. I couldn't understand why I was so weak and stiffand desperate. The Waitrose man arrived and tried but just pulled all the pieces under y arm causing more pain. Then the fire brigade was called. Don't get me wrong isn't it every girls dream fireman to be hoisted up by four handsome guys. Who managed to raise me. Then transfer me in my nigh tieand dressing gown without any toiletries or clothes or phone out into the snow. I was frozen and the journey awful, but he's that was just the start. An hour's wait shivering with fright and for before joining the corridor . 4hrs later I was wheeled to triage, bloods taken, and told I had Co vid and pneumonia after 7hours on the floor. You may laugh here as I was until retirement a nurse and then a police women.Then I was taken to a cur tained off cupboard, and a sign put up for nobody to enter.I was indeed desperate, and I needed the toilet. Eventually I was taken upstairs to a Co vid bed and started on Oxgen and medication.On the ceiling above me was a gent and I was petrified to hear a lady shouting out "leave me alone , stop it, get off me, I don't want to die" I wanted to get off that bed and run out of the door, but couldn't move because of fit sides and oxgen. I was so fearful and p anicky. Somehow I managed to tell the Dr the next day I was well enough to go home but there was yet another hurdle the physio had to take me to a fight of marble slippery stairs scaled boiler down them. Only determinationthestrength to summon to do it and a few white lies staying I had someone to look after me at home.(I was widowed 6yrs ago after caring for my lovely husband with Cancer) I couldn't get out quick enough it was ie a third World country.I owed never to go there again BUT: Three weeks ago and no choice. I had sudden abdominal pain, a friend summoned an 🚑 and once more with help from the gas and air I was yes on my way back to Scarboro. This time 4 hrs until a bed on A&E. Here given two drips and taken down for a scan at 4am. At 6am I was asked to vacate the bed and given a chair on the corridor I just couldn't stand any more. I managed to get a nurse and tell her I was going home, but needed taking back home to Bridlington, as I was had no money or phone and was still in my night clothes. I was still in lots of pain and didn't know what was causing it. She came back with some antibiotics and told me the scan showed I had a kidney stone lodged in my bladder and one in my left kidne.g. Th us pain. My blood pressure was dangerous rising from195/277.I couldn't believe they would let me out I then had to go to a huge waiting area in the bowels of the hospital for 3hrs to await transport home along with another elderly lady who didn't know where she was.The whole experience has left me traumatised. I am home thank God but no one has even checked up on me. It's awful so thank you Hannah for reminding me that I'm not alone, and crossing my fingers I can heal myself.x

I don’t seem to know this lady but she tells a good tale.

Hannah's beautifully written and rye humor spoke directly to me. I was left for three days on those plastic chairs in the acute ward. I am 74 and arthritis made me leave on the third day. I was given 2 tablets and put on a Thiamin drip for an hour when I first came in a wheelchair. After that nothing. As I left I was given some Thiamin tablets and told to see my GP. I couldn't stand unaided or walk. I live on my own. My friend took me home.

I find in your area quite a good read not much more to add.

Hannah Jones is not only an excellent writer but also amusing even when writing serious articles

Surely "in your area" can do better than this. Seem to remember someone called "Jones" had a similarly unfunny column in the "Mercury".
