I’m really disappointed with my experience on Nextdoor. I made a simple, positive post sharing a personal life update about becoming a nanny again — nothing offensive, no advertising, just a happy family moment.
The post was removed. I then edited it and removed the scan photo — still removed. I rewrote it completely to just a basic sentence, and it was removed again.
What’s frustrating is that their own guidelines state that personal updates and life events are allowed as part of community sharing. Yet in practice, posts seem to be removed based on subjective reports or personal opinions rather than actual rules.
It feels inconsistent and unfair, and after multiple removals I honestly feel like I’m being targeted. There’s also very little transparency — no clear explanation of what rule was supposedly broken, just generic responses.
A community platform should be about connecting neighbours, not discouraging harmless, positive posts.
Until moderation becomes clearer and more consistent, it’s hard to trust the platform
Absolutely Rubbish App That Promotes Illegal Activity!
This is the E-Mail that I sent to the CEO of NextDoor, and of course he didn't respond, so I've now deleted the Nextdoor App.
FOR THE PERSONAL ATTENTION OF NIRAV TOLIA - CEO OF NEXTDOOR.
I'm sorry to have to write to you direct but I am absolutely appalled at the actions of the "so-called moderators" of this app. Whilst they have suspended my A/C indefinitely citing that I have alledgedly "Breached Guidelines" - the offending post is shown below, where there is absolutely no mention of "race, religion, nationality, colour or creed" mentioned in that message, so how can it be viewed as being against the guidelines? See my E-Mail thread below. Additionally, and probably more importantly, NextDoor continually allow the posting of illegal content which violates UK law. This includes, but is not limited to;-
The provision of Fake Driving Licences
The provision of Fake Passports
Tax Evasion
The promoting of Hate Marches
The sale of Home Made Food without the necessary Hygiene Certificate
The sale of Home Made Food without the necessary Licence
The provision of Child Care and Care For the Elderly without the Mandatory Certification
Advertisers promoting themselves as qualified masseurs, when they are nothing but sexual predators!
Advertisers promoting themselves as Qualified English Tutors, when their posts clearly show that they can't speak English properly themselves, illustrated by poor spelling, poor grammar and poor punctuation.
The NextDoor site posts news items from various newspapers and local online sites. and actively requests your opinion of the item and asks "what do you think about....". When you reply to that question, your reply is deemed as "violating the guidelines". Why ask the questions if you immediately ban the answers?
NextDoor moderators regularly take down posts because they are about national and not local issues, but at the same time ask the questions as in 10 above. If they deem that only local issues should be addressed on NextDoor, then why are they allowing national newspapers feeds on national and political issues and actively asking "what do you think about....."
NextDoor continually allow rogue tradesmen to advertise on the site, when they have already been informed by the community that they serve, that many have been scammed by those tradesmen, and by doing that, they are not protecting the local community, but doing the opposite and putting the local community in real danger of scammers.
Take the above items away and you're left with around 5% of legal content, and of that probably another 4% is about lost, stolen and injured cats and dogs, so approximately 1% of the total content actually is about local issues. Personally, I am very far from being impressed and by writing to you direct, I want to make you aware of how your "so-called moderators" are bringing this app into disrepute. I have seen that many members are leaving, and for exactly the same reasons.
If you don't wish to reinstate my Account, then that's your decision, AND, it certainly will be no loss to me, but either way, I am seriously considering reporting Items 1-13 as above, to the relevant authorities.
I’d advocate a -star option. -10 would be appropriate
One star is misleading, by now I rate it -10 stars.
There are serious issues with moderation (they are volunteers and apply their political bias openly). I am polite, never insult anyone and I give fact checked information to correct misinformation.
I report insults and national politics canvassing in the same polite manner.
At one point a commenter actually posted that moderators are getting fed up with my reporting insults and national politics.
My reports of insults and national politics (canvassing!!!) are either ignored or action is taken weeks later (when the original post no longer is in the immediate feed).
The latest moderation decided that the council I live in is not my neighbourhood and disabled commenting for me.
I have a huge collection of screenshots.
In short, I cannot recommend the next door neighbours website if you are a peaceful, polite and factual person.
I might follow the example of GenZ, get a dumbphone and leave social media.
Not really a neighbour friendly platform.
This platform does not represent local community but rather others. It is so institutionally racist and woke, the ability to write facts about what is actually happening in the community is almost a waste of time.
It's awful
It's awful
What should have been a good community building app is now full of people making snide comments
Some people have genuine concerns about what happens in their community only to met with typical self righteous comments from the Karen's
Shame on the developers and moderators for not nipping this in the bud sooner
Keeps Re-Subscribing me to Emails
Which part of UNSUBSCRIBE do you not understand? Site drip-feeds emails despite unsubscribing.
A site for scammers, criminals and dole scroungers.
This site is nothing but a collection of foreigners asking for cash in hand jobs, childcare jobs and accommodation for boys of girls Asian only of course, begging and knocked off stuff. Where are Admin? Suspending people who point this out.
They allow people who have no command of the English language to ask for childcare posts. These people have no qualifications in childcare, H&S, References, checkable work history or proof that they are allowed to work in this country. Then we have the dole scroungers asking for cash in hand jobs.
The amount of scammers for money, furniture etc is off the scale and the beggars who expect us to fund them.
People advertise services, do a terrible job then untraceable.
People ask for this, that and the other but no manners at all.
What good is this site? If you ask me it is a site for criminals and scammers and should be shut down.
Don't sign up for this!!!
Firstly, it seems to be a site for neighbours to complain about each other. That's most of what I get. There really isn't a lot of neighbourly sharing. But the worst thing is the sheer amount of email notifications, sometimes half a dozen in a day. When I try to unsubscribe, I can't and the emails keep coming. I even complained to them and asked them to unsubscribe me and they assured they had, and the emails are still coming! Next step is complaining to the Information Commissioner's Office to see if that will stop them.
Nextdoor put my family at risk
Constant online personal abuse, reported, nothing done. Then my and my daughter's address were posted online. As she is police, working on county lines drugs, that puts my family in danger. Reported and nothing done....
Next door - lousy
If it were possible to give zero, I would. This is an absolutely appalling "service". I signed up today to sell a few items to local neighbours. As soon as I posted I was told my account had been suspended indefinitely, by a staff member, for a breach of community guidelines. The guidelines make perfect sense, I agree with them and breached NONE OF THEM. I tried to contact and this far no reply. This is disgusting. Avoid this service, please!!
Spam++++
Suddenly out of the blue getting 5+ emails a day. Tried to unsubscribe from everything except my own posts and seems like now I’m getting auto subscribed to new things like ‘Nextdoor digest’ that wasn’t an option to opt out of.
Leave me alone I've unsubscribed
I unsubscribed dont know how many times yet they continue to annoy me . I unsubscribed because never seen anything that's fine . But as when they send emails which you can't reply to why bother 🙄
Hi everyone.
Hi everyone.
I wanted to share my experience with Nexdoor.
I created an account there in 2024, and everything was working fine until a week ago. Four days ago, I tried to log in, but was unsuccessful. My account was blocked, apparently for violating the site's terms of service, due to providing false information. I don't understand why there was no problem for two years, and now it has.
I've received several emails from Nexdoor administrators, each from a different person. And so far, my account is still suspended.
I feel like the people working there have no idea what they're doing. The support is incompetent, unfriendly, and lacking empathy.
I'm a local handyman. I have contacts and customer reviews on this site, and they're all positive. People know me, praise my services, and recommend them to each other. Blocking my account has cut off my customer contacts, but the Nexdoor support team doesn't seem to care.
Another day without any contact from them. If I were to rate their work and dedication, I would give them a rating of less than zero. It was a very frustrating experience. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I believe the management of this company should replace all of its heartless administrators and provide training in customer service and customer service.
I won’t even bother joining this site…
I won’t even bother joining this site they’ve banned me twice for no particular reason they let a guy on their site that’s got three different accounts three different addresses and two different names. Absolutely appalling. I’ve been banned yet again for what reason I don’t know to me, I get the reviews and I agree with the reviews. There are bad people on that site really bad. I’m not really bothered now about it if I’m honest you really don’t know who you’re talking to.
Can't rejoin if you leave... no way!
Moved house. Tried to reinstall Nextdoor... login details correct but my account had been deactivated. After numerous attempts at resetting my account I got a rude message suggesting I was a terrorist or something. Oh well, it was a shit site anyway, like Facebook but with pruning shears.
Nextdoor Isn't What It Used To Be. We're Done!
We get updates and "news" about communities nowhere near us! The site used to be warm and friendly but is now filled to the brim with scammers and "administrators" who appear to have nothing better to do than demand information and/or changes to "your post" before allowing continuance. We're done. The fact that they don't reply to negative reviews is proof positive that our decision to disengage is the correct one. Awful site. No longer useful--and no longer between neighbors who want to help each other. Time to dump Nextdoor and go back to neighborhood bartering!
If I could give minus 10 I would
If I could give minus 10 I would
Absolutely of no use to anyone unless you are "begging" for money or scamming. The old format that was set up to help the local community is no longer. There are people whose English is almost non existent looking for job any job, but going to job centre totally eluded them. There are people advertising HALAL meat, people selling items most probably stolen...and it goes on and on. So I decided to remove.my self from this utter waste of space platform.
Absolutely appalling
Absolutely appalling, I must have unsubscribed every day for the past two weeks and they STILL insist on sending daily spam 'summaries' on 'what you missed!'
