This was hands down the WORST hotel experience we have ever had—and we travel frequently. Staying at Hilton, especially under these circumstances, was beyond unacceptable.
We booked this hotel because my mom had surgery at MD Anderson and needed a clean, safe place to recover. Instead, we were exposed to what I can only describe as hazardous conditions.
From the moment we stepped off the elevator on the 15th floor, we were hit with overpowering chemical paint fumes—so strong they caused immediate dizziness, nausea, and headaches. Not a mild smell—this was toxic-level exposure. Our room was just as bad.
We were moved to the 12th floor. Same thing.
Moved again to the 10th floor. Still there.
By this point, we had already seen workers actively spray painting with industrial equipment, yet guests were still being placed on these floors like it was no big deal.
At 6:50 AM, we woke up feeling sick AGAIN because the fumes were coming through the AC vents. That was the breaking point.
FOUR room changes later—FOUR—we finally ended up on the 9th floor where, magically, there were no fumes. So the hotel clearly had safe rooms available but chose not to use them from the start.
The front desk was completely unprofessional. When we asked a simple question—“Does the room smell like paint?”—the staff member avoided answering and hung up on us. My husband had to go down in person at 7 AM to speak to a manager because no one would handle it properly.
Let’s be clear:
• Guests were knowingly exposed to strong chemical paint fumes
• We experienced dizziness and nausea multiple times
• We were forced to move rooms FOUR times
• We lost sleep during a critical medical situation
• Staff was dismissive and outright rude
And the “compensation”? A free breakfast. That’s honestly insulting.
To top it off, the pool was filthy with green buildup on the bottom—clearly not maintained.
This was not just a bad stay—it was a health hazard and a complete failure in basic hotel management. For the price we paid (~$400 for two nights), this is absolutely unacceptable.
We will NEVER stay at this Hilton again and strongly advise others—especially anyone dealing with medical situations—to stay far away.
Would reccommend.
From booking to check in was brilliant. The receptionist Shamar was very welcoming
Explained about the hotel and facilities they offered. Room was adequate. Could have been more lighting.
Shower was excellent.
Didnt use facilities as only stayed one night, we were at the theatre around the corner literally!
Breakfast: Excellent.
Staff at the Garden Inn Birmingham England are a credit to their company.
Unscrupulous and greedy
Booking 3376032442.
My Russian partner is taking a 3am flight from Moscow to England. She has used Hilton before with no issues. I emailed and asked if I could pay with an English MasterCard, my being aware that Hilton, notwithstang the hotel location was American. No problem, they said. I booked and paid 2 nights with the no cancellation option. My partner arrived this afternoon and was told the booking was made but not paid for. At the reception desk signing in, she was charged the maximum rate, an additional 4,000 rubles which includes an option to cancel even though she was signing in. She paid and it has cleaned her out. Once Hilton realised that they couldn't take my payment, they cancelled it and picked the most expensive of three payment options by almost £50/$70. They didn't email me with this news.I have spent several hours with Hilton UK who said my credit card is not valid in Russia, which is why I asked by email. They cannot say why I was told differently nor why Hilton in Moscow did not email me to tell me this.
I've emailed the CEO but don't expect anything.
Unscrupulous, expensive, inconsiderate and unhelpful
Caveat Emptor.
Filthy HVAC vent dripping with dust
Filthy HVAC vent dripping with dust. I spent 4 nights here on a business trip and this was easily the worst hotel experience I’ve had. Within an hour of turning on the AC, a musty dust odor filled the room. When I checked, the vent grill was caked in YEARS of grime – absolutely unacceptable for any hotel, let alone a Hilton. Housekeeping clearly skipped cleaning it.
Other issues piled up. Instead of a proper blanket, I was given a dirty mattress skirt to sleep under, and no extra sheets or pillows were provided until I asked multiple times. I emailed both Hilton Corporate and Booking.com about these problems and was met with silence – nobody even bothered to reply or fix anything. I felt completely ignored by the staff and management.
As a frequent traveler (4+ trips a year), I’ve seen many rooms, and I’ve never been treated this poorly. I left that hotel feeling disgusted and distrustful of the brand. Never staying here (or any Hilton) again. Not recommended
Disgusting, rude horrible management team. Oh yes forgot liars!
It was boiling hot and from beginning to the end they are a rotten management team. Not fit for purpose. A boiling hot arrival meant I nearly fainted and blood sugar dropped in this hot, decrepit hotel. The guy on reception took 15-20 mins with check-in. I went across hot corridors for 5 mins to our room. I went back to reception to try and get an air conditioned room. We were only told this by a lovely bell boy. The only decent person there.
I phoned and spoke to the first manager who said I should have gone outside to cool down. In 28degrees.
I spoke to the second manager who was vile Divina Prakash. She told me I should have waited in line for another room.
She said to me I should have waited until I fall on the floor, where they would have done first aid and called an ambulance. As a type 1 diabetic I was stunned. She then shouted her head off at me saying I could not have a refund as I should have waited in line for another room until I fall on the floor.
Her stupid manager the General Manager, Sally Bennett is not fit for purpose either.
She forgot to call me after returning for annual leave. Gave me the run around and said she is refunding me.
Did no such thing and said a random credit card that was not ours. She said that’s the one we booked on and otherwise it would be fraud.
I said it’s not ours. She repeated herself like a demented parrot.
She lied and pretended to give me a refund. Being investigated for safety! and host I booked it through said they were disgusted with how I was treated. Their answer to a request for a refund was that I should have waited in line to get another room.
I was about to pass out. I left for my own safety it’s boiling in there and actually a rotten, run down hotel. Perhaps they have my £319 that they won’t refund because they would have to pay me to stay there.
They must need the money.
Rotten lot and extremely bad management.
I booked a hotel for $259 per night at…
I booked a hotel for $259 per night at Doubletree Orland Entrance to Universal Studios but was charged ~$600 per night. I called Doubletree and they told me the booking to Doubletree was actually made through Get a Room/Priceline. I never had any dealings with Priceline / Get a Room and certainly did not authorize this excessive bill. Doubletree has not taken any responsibility for accepting this invalid unauthorized booking from Priceline.
Doubletree Bristol
Doubletree Bristol, run down rooms, restaurant is the updated staff eating while serving guest. Had to send my food back twice due to issues. Staff very unprofessional.

Stale smelly hotel. No aircon and NO fan for me!!!! Apparently select rooms come with a noisy fan but just my tough luck!
I knew that I was going to cook AGAIN in my room so asked for water…. 💦
They made me buy it! Would not even give me a water! Great customer care..NOT!
The carpets etc are LONG OVERDUE to be replaced hence the stale smell.
Unable to eat breakfast at 7am as breakfast room was a sauna.
Hampton by Hilton
Hampton by Hilton, Kiel was supposed to refund us 75% for our stay in July 2024 and we are still waiting! Repeated emails say they are on the case but it nearly a year later and we are still waiting.
Over an hour to check in, no bedding ever arrived! Terrible service.
Stayed at the Belfast Hilton on the…
Stayed at the Belfast Hilton on the 19th May. It was brilliant, from the check in by lovely Ciara, the concierge John, brilliant bar staff( great cocktails) The room was immaculate, lovely view of The Lagan, lovely bathroom with excellent shower. Fantastic breakfast. I have stayed in Hiltons all around the world, but for my friend and I, this was the best. My only regret is that we were only here for I night and 2 days. Can Honestly recommend this hotel. We didn’t have one single complaint and the £50 deposit was not an issue at all. The wonderful, fresh breakfast came off it. Hope we can return soon.
Sneaky check-in deposit not refunded.
I fully paid for my room booking at Munich Airport Hilton online before I checked in. At check-in they insisted on taking a deposit from me in case I caused damage or used services not covered by what I had already paid. They told me they would reimburse it to my account if I had done no damage or used any extra services. It is now over a month since I checked out and I have still not received the refund. I caused no damage and used no extra services. I only used the shower, towels, bed and a glass for drinking water from. All of this was covered by what I had already paid. Is this a sneaky trick you play on ally your guests?

YORK HILTON
We had a great stay here, location is fantastic (opp Clifford Tower and Museum, shops are round the corner),a short walk to the Shambles and the same again onto York Minster, parking is very handy ie opposite the hotel, and hotel parking is available but a bit expensive, staff are very friendly and the hotel is very clean. Will on reception was very helpful and efficient in dealing with a slight issue on arrival. All the staff were very friendly, especially Will, Victoria and the bar staff. Only negative was the Castle view which was obscured by the window having a lot of condensation between the glass.
Hilton hotel Belfast - deposit taken
Stayed at the Hilton Hotel Belfast and on check in was told a deposit of £50 would be held and refunded if not used. I didn’t use it and the money was immediately taken from my account and was told it can take up to 7 business to be refunded back to my account. Is this legal? I am fuming? I’ve stayed at several hotels and never before was the money actually taken. It was just held for a security deposit? Thanks
Fair and Square
We stayed at Hilton, Garden Inn in Miami Beach. We enjoyed our short stay. The room os a little to the small side. But everything else was as expected and Ariel at the front desk was helpful and patient. Thank you.
Waited 2 Hours for Cold Food – Thanks Hilton
Hilton’s room service is a joke. Waited almost 2 hours for cold soggy food I paid $45 for. Called twice and kept getting "it’s on the way.” Ruined my only night to relax on this business trip. Never again.
Hilton Kensington dreadful …
Hilton Kensington along with Hilton Olympia in London have to be two of the worst Hilton’s in London. For diamond members of 15 years the upgrade was not worth the 15 years of loyalty to this hotel group. The hotel needs redoing. I work in tourism and would not recommend anyone for the rest of the world to stay in either of these hotels. Staff are doing their best in two sinking ships.
Hilton Tower St york
Staff and food in restaurant lovely. However booked with booking.com and was charged an extra 5.00 per night parking . Even though advertised as 25.00 a night, was charged 30.00 per night. Also building work going on in hotel which we were not prewarned about, so very noisy through day from 8am to 5pm. No chance of relaxing in room. Complained but was not moved to quiet area. Complained on Hilton chat on return but never got back to us. So disappointed in this 3 night visit to the Hilton.
