Harlands Group a scam company

This company is the worse company in the United Kingdom that anyone having a gym membership could possibly use I have dealt with this company many years ago and they cancelled one of my memberships when I was in Hospital although the membership wass frozen. I signed up with a membership with a set company called TruGym in thee Bromley, London area, on the 27/10/2021 when arrived at the gym it was closed with a notification that showed that the gym was permanently closed and that our memberships should be refunded or closed.
Today 10/11/2021, I found a message in my junk mail from this Harlands Group stating that I am over £40 in arrears of which my gym membership is £17.99 a month and that if I have not paid this by the 18/11/2021 I will be charged £175 and sent to a debt collector. As there are no other TruGym sites in the London area this gym group cannot supply me the service that I signed up for thereby making the contract invalid, the Harlands Group not only have the audacity to charge administration fees for an email at £25 but then threaten the client. for this company
When trying to contact this group they have a purely automated system which is a delay tactic, because they do not want to speak to people directly.
I am waiting for this company to contact me directly to explain why they think that they can expect me to pay for a membership that I can no longer use, and that they were suppose to cancel, and also why they think that I will pay administration fees, if they push the issue I will be quite happy for them to send it to a debt recovery company and I will make arrangements that will suit me minus the administration fees. My advice to anyone that uses a gym, if the gym uses the Harlands Group as a membership client, pay the extra money for an open contract that rolls over on a 30 day basis that way if you cancel your Direct Debit there are no extra fees and you cannot be held to any type of contract, I will update Trustpilot to the outcome of this situation if the company can be bothered to get back to me.

Absolutely appalling

I am absolutely disgusted with the customer services from Harlands. I was on a monthly membership at my local leisure centre, and was directed to Harlands to cancel my membership directly with them. I emailed and submitted tickets on their website numerous times and waited over two weeks without a response.
I then just decided to contact a member of the leisure centre, who kindly proceeded with the cancellation of my membership.

I later receive an email from Harlands stating that my last payment was due 4th November and I could use the centre until the 4th December, meaning they planned on taking an extra month’s pay from me. After again failing to contact anyone I cancelled the DD with my bank.

Flash forward to now, I have received an email with a letter from Harlands, charging me an extra £20 admin fee due to the failed direct debit. I am planning on attempting to call them about this tomorrow but highly doubt I will get through. Not really sure what to do as I don’t want my wrongful debt to grow, but don’t want to give my money to these dirty money grabbers.

Would be 0 if it was an option

Would be 0 if it was an option. Took payments from my account last year for a gym membership I couldn't use during a national lockdown and being in a tier 4 zone, then has continued to take money from my account despite repeatedly being told to cancel my membership over a period of months.

Very difficult company to deal with

Very difficult company to deal with. Took a long time to confirm my cancellation during the cooling off period and I still haven't received a refund after almost 2 months.
However, there were very quick to notify me when I cancelled my direct debit.

Never deal with Harland's again!

Decided to join my local gym, after less than 24hrs discovered my financial situation changed. Requested a cancellation never even attended the gym. Now pursuing me for a £49.99 admin and membership fee and charging £20 as direct debit was cancelled by the bank.

Great service, unwelcome finance policies.

Great customer service from Liam, but seriously unimpressed with their policy of charging £20 for failed direct debits. Had one bounce without being told: asked at the gym if there was a problem with my direct debit and was told it was fine - then found this to be incorrect when a repeated attempt was made - this time for £42.

Terrible, non existent customer service

Terrible non existent customer service, can’t reply to emails. If they do it takes weeks and then they write half paragraphs and say things like “we can’t find you membership”? Which is not surprising when I’m emailing to cancel!! They are awful! Avoid at all costs

Terrible and ignorant company/group…

Terrible and ignorant company/group whatever they might call themselves. In a world where kindness is so important, this group gives the least of it. They won’t respond to your emails at all no matter the importance and only want your money. I would boycott any business they’re associated with and am making it my goal to ensure anybody I’m associated with does exactly the same. I hope this place rots and go under.

Thank you Chelsea!

After a difficult time trying to contact via the website and phone to cancel my membership, I was fortunate to speak to Chelsea Shere . She is the senior customer services adviser and was kind last year when I wanted to freeze my membership. Luckily I still had her email address and hoped she would still be there. Chelsea responded immediately, apologised and sorted out my my request straightaway. She was warm and friendly and above all approachable- exactly what I needed after several frustrated attempts to make contact in the usual way! Thank you Chelsea!

It has to be 5 Stars

I wanted to cancel my gym/pool membership. I sent an email in July 2021 doing so, but never received a reply. In fairness they did reply stating they required 2-month notice but sent this to my old email which is now defunct. I'm putting this down to a communication breakdown rather than any hostile intent which to be fair, I can give testimony that I could apply such to some public companies I've had dealings with. I've just phoned the Customer Help Line and Jake (Jacob) could not have been more helpful in sorting out the final details and confirming my membership cancelled. For this reason I have to give the Company an overall 5 star rating because it tried to act ethically and Jake displayed excellent patience and resilience in such a complicated matter.

If I could leave no stars I would

If I could leave no stars I would. Like other reviewers I received 2 formal letters threatening me with a debt collection service, yet could get no response via email or telephone. Possibly the worst Customer Service I have ever experienced.

£25 late payment on a £38 DD 3 hours late payment

They took over my gyms payments and in the first month my payment was late. It didn't go threw in the morning, I realised and called them to pay it. It was roughly 3hours late and they charged me a late payment fee of £25. Complained they upheld the charge. My gym fee is £38 they charged me 3/4 I am actually quitting my gym just because of these disgusting service.

Horrendous Harlands!!!

Absolutely horrendous company!

Wrongfully took gym payments during December 2020 COVID lockdown, as well as duplicating payments that were never to be paid. Could not receive a reply from anyone within the company for months. My gym access then became BLOCKED in February 2021 due to the Harlands discrepancy which was out of my control due to Harland's ignorance. Then, months later in Sept 2021, I received a threat to pay an outstanding £180, DESPITE not being able to use the gym since Nov 2020 because of Harlands lack of service!!!

Since receiving a threat letter from Harlands two weeks ago, I have made numerous attempts to resolve the issue only to be IGNORED further. When ringing the number provided, I was informed that where I was told to direct my email to via the Harlands/legal website, "complaints@harland" is NOT their complaints department.

I have recently seen notes on companies house that Harlands were close to being struck off around June 21. I believe that Harlands are now trying to scaremonger innocent people into giving away their money, as their company is about to go into liquidation. If I could rate Harlands 0 stars, I would!

Worst company ever

Worst company I have ever experienced. The customer service is tragic… They look money out of my account despite lockdown meaning I could not access gym facilities I was paying for. Have not refunded me despite my regular emails and phone calls (takes about 45 mins to get through to anyone). They are saying I owe them money if I want to cancel my membership early, yet they owe me over £100! This company wastes my time on the daily, free me of this awful contract please. I would recommend staying away from any gym that uses Harlands Group- beware…even 1 star is generous

Nightmare

Nightmare
Trouble started in January when I tried to freeze membership for me and my son during lockdown.
Went through the process online but they took out the payment anyway. Got the bank to take the payment back but didn't cancel direct debit. After a lot of hassle and threats from Harlands, I finally got things sorted, or so I thought. When lockdown ended went back to gym and cards wouldn't work. Harlands said direct debits had been cancelled. I had to set new ones up at gym and pay the bs admin fee for both accounts. A couple of months later my son gets an email to say he owes £75 in arrears. They were trying to say his account hadn't been frozen. Managed to sort that. Then couple of months later I get an email to say I owed £225. I cancelled direct debit and both memberships as I had had enough by now. Turns out they opened an extra account after lockdown and were trying to collect on that. Got that sorted then got email for months membership and £25 admin fee for cancelling direct debit. Have paid and confirmed membership is cancelled but expect more hassle. If you are thinking of joining a gym and Harlands collect for them for god's sake don't. There are plenty of other gyms!
