I have had the Halcyan conditioner in place for a year now. The main place I have noticed the difference is on the hand held shower hose. This used to have to be descaled every couple of months but there hasn’t been any build up since fitting. Another place is there is no more build up on tap heads. It’s a lot easier to clean off water marks from the stainless steel sink and other surfaces. You still get water marks with this system but I have used next to no descaler. A friend, who lives in Suffolk, has just fitted one after my recommendation. So far he is very happy.

To understand who Halcyan really are, check their email after I filed a dispute about their useless (literally) product with my credit card provider and won :-)
Clearly, their manners are worse than their products.
The fact that I won the dispute means it was perfectly appropriate and you were not.
"Mr ...
You have submitted for an entirely inappropriate and unproven refund from your card company. Under no provision are you entitled to any of the funds back as we quite clearly explained to you in our last email. You were provided with all the information necessary, and failed to do your due diligence, prior to purchase.
Given you still have our product and have failed to return it but have received the refund, if we do not receive our unit back within 7 days, in perfect order, we will treat this as theft and take the necessary next steps to retrieve our property.
Regards"

I have waited a few months before leaving this review, to give adequate time to test our Halcyan conditioner since we had it installed during recent extension and new kitchen work.
Like many of the other reviews on here, we took a long time to make the decision about whether to go for a traditional salt-based softener or the Halcyan conditioner. In the end we trusted people's positive reviews of Halcyan, and are very glad we did.
We are several months on now from installation, and the results have been very impressive. We had a new kitchen installed, and so can comment on the effects on brand new fittings and appliances. Our new taps remain completely free from limescale after several months use, without any cleaning other than the normal wipe over with a cloth and kitchen cleaner, and we have had none of the hard water issues we have had in the past. When I installed new bathroom taps a year or so before we got the Halcyan, substantial limescale deposits had accumulated over the same period.
As the information on the website makes clear, the Halcyan conditioner does not remove minerals from the water, it conditions them and changes their structure, so they don't "stick". This is what we have found. On occasion you will still notice some white deposits around the tap after water has evaporated away, but these are easily wiped away if/when they appear.
We are very happy with our Halcyan. People have talked about the high initial cost, but this should be viewed as an investment which provides a no-maintenance, zero ongoing cost, environmentally friendly, non-salt-dependent solution to limescale and hard water which is guaranteed to last decades. When you take a 30yr view on it the cost is very reasonable, and is multiple times cheaper than a salt based system.
Thanks Halcyan!

I have had a Halcyan water conditioner for nearly two years and thought I would share my thoughts. My shower, taps and toilet are mostly limescale free and what little there is comes away very easily when cleaning. The lid and spout of my tea kettle, formerly a limescale haven are also free. I have noticed that my skin does not itch as much after showering and my hair seems to be softer. Another bonus is I no longer need to purchase caustic limescale busting cleaners which are detrimental to the environment. All in all I would say that I am extremely satisfied with my Halcyan water conditioner.

We are delighted with the Halcyon water conditioner. The difference is very noticeable from shifting problem limescale areas to better skin and hair condition. I have given up having to moisturize, and no longer worry about an extra shower or bath causing dryness.

The Halcyan has not prevented the build up of limescale. The company have accepted that the device is faulty but want us to provide a deposit for £150, pay for our plumber to come back and change the unit and carry the cost of any postage.
We are very disappointed. Everything we had read about this device promised such amazing results - not only is this not the case - but buyer beware - customer service is lousy!

Having had this product installed for nearly two years I can say it has made a big difference with my cleaning and appliances.i had to use chemicals ever other month on the bath and shower ,now I only have to use a diluted version every nine months. The taps are also far easier to clean and any scale that builds up is easily removed with a cleaning cloth (no longer a hammer).
The scale is not completely removed (live in London) but it’s effect is vastly reduced.
I chose this product to avoid water softeners and salt purchasing .
I would recommend

Nobody wants salt or chemicals or electricity introduced into their water system and bodies.
This unit conditions and softens the water and drastically reduces limescale in equipment and showers/baths. If you have hair you'll feel the difference when you wash it.

I've had my halcyan water conditioner for just over a year now. I have no regrets, I have to clean shower, taps, sinks etc. 80% less than I used to.
I took a long time doing research on this vs. salt machines but we decided on the halcyan because we wanted to:
- save space
- save money and trouble on buying salt etc.
- save the environment
- clean less
I would highly recommend it to anyone living in a hard water area. I think my hair is softer too now :)

My 23-Jan-2026 response to Halcyan's reply:
My original Aug-2020 review reported that the Halcyan appeared to be working well after 1.5 years. Now I'm sharing my experience after 6 years and 9 months. I had a plumbing emergency in Nov-2025 during which the expansion vessel and stopcock to the unvented cylinder had to be replaced because of limescale damage (shown to me by an experienced and reputable plumber). This led me to go on a search for a salt water softener because I have underfloor heating and didn't want to risk systemic limescale damage to the plumbing. My salt water softener was installed by a different plumber than the one who attended my plumbing emergency.
UPDATE: 22-Jan-2026
In Nov-2025, I had a plumbing emergency during which it was discovered that there was hard water damage to the plumbing. I have therefore bought a water softener (the ones that use salt). I live in a very hard water area (~320 - 350 ppm). For the last 2.5 years, I have also found that the limescale on the shower screens build up more quickly compared to when the Halcyan was first installed, and is harder to remove. Based on my experience, the Halcyan is probably best suited for low- to mid-range hard water rather than very hard water areas like I am in. I paid a lot of money for the Halcyan and to get it installed in 2019 and unfortunately, it didn't pay off for me. I have amended my rating to 3 stars.
My original 5-star review in 2020:
This is quite a long review, but I wanted to be thorough because when I was researching into this topic myself back in 2019, it was difficult to find enough information to help me make the best decision I could.
Having previously lived in an area with soft water, we moved into an area where the water is classified as 'very hard' in January 2019.
For the first month, I thought we would see how we get on. Limescale built up quickly and I let it as I didn’t realize how difficult it would be to remove.
I started researching different solutions and was agonizing over whether to have a traditional salt-based water softener installed. They seemed to be the only ones that actually remove the problem-causing minerals in the water, but the cons of taking up significant cupboard space and being locked in forever to having to buy large bags of salt kept me searching.
When I came across Halcyan, it ticked all the boxes: doesn’t take up extra space (cut out a section of existing pipe and install in its place); no further maintenance required; no need to buy more products to keep it working; supposed to work for a few decades.
It seemed too good to be true, so I looked into the science of how it’s supposed to work. After reading as much as I could find at that time, as well as reviews and threads on message boards, I still wasn’t sure (the science made sense to me but there were so many conflicting reviews). We decided to take the risk as we'd rather not have to keep buying bags of salt.
Yes, we baulked initially at the price of the Halcyan; and yes, we also baulked at the price we had to pay the plumber to install it at the end of February 2019.
But within about 4 days of installation, we noticed more lather during showers. And after I had finally cleaned off all the old limescale from before I had the Halcyan installed, I found that new films of minerals could be wiped off easily.
The main difference between Halcyan and salt-based water softeners is that Halcyan doesn’t actually remove the problem-causing minerals, it just makes them not deposit down as limescale.
What this has meant for me in practice in the kitchen, for example, is that I wipe down the taps each evening when I have finished washing up and it’s shiny and sparkly again. No need to scrub vigorously. This is the same for taps and sinks throughout my home. If I’m feeling lazy and I don’t wipe it down at the end of the day, no problem. I have left it for a few days to a week and it still wipes off easily. Same for shower screens.
The Halcyan worked for me. I’ve had it for 1.5 years now and it’s still working hassle-free. I am happy with it because it ticked all of these boxes that were important to me: doesn’t take up extra space; no further maintenance required; no need to buy more products to keep it working; supposed to work for a few decades (ok, so for this last one, only time will tell).
However, if your top priority and expectation is that the product removes all the minerals that cause limescale from your water, I would suggest a salt-based water softener instead as they are the only ones that can do that.

We live in south west London and for us the Halcyan water conditioner doesn't appear to have any discernable effect. Our glass shower screens get coated in lime scale spots that are impossible to remove and the lime scale builds up on the taps and corners of the sink, again proving extremely difficult to remove. This is not the soft white powder we expected. Unfortunately it is with great disappointment that I have to say I cannot recommend this product.

I have had the water conditioner for several months. I am very impressed - the limescale in our taps, and showers has pretty much disappeared, the water tastes good, feels good, and things like soap and shampoo lather more than before. The man who installed the unit was so impressed that he has bought one for his own house, so cant say more than that!

I am really glad I installed a Halcyan water treatment gadget. Its a really great idea and much less hassle and expense than a traditional water softener, which requires loads of salt to function. This technology is not quite as effective as the other type, , but the home looks a whole lot better than with no treatment at all, and I have noticed much less limescale in the kettle. but a whole lot less problematic to run. The other problem I have had with in the past with salt powered water softeners is the risk of falling in the shower as the shower tray becomes dangerously slippery.

With this review I want to address the issues with this so called “ water conditioner “ unit, to all the future customers of Halcyan Water.
Please everyone, please do not believe what this company is claiming for the products they are selling.
I had one for just over one year, in fact I still got it. Didn’t had a chance to be changed or most preferably refund from Halcyan.
This unit “pipe” is doing absolutely nothing in my household, still developing limescale everyday. It is so useless and do expensive at the same time. For example, you are Cleanning your bathroom on Sunday, Monday morning you taking a shower and after that in the evening you can see immediately those white spots all over your bathroom glass doors and all metal fittings. You wash your glasses after dinner, on the following morning they are covered with white spots. This unit is not doing any good, it’s so pity.
Don’t rely on after sale support as well. They always will come with a twisted combination of words. Sort of, did you installed properly? Did you clean your bathroom and kitchen often? Ooo maybe the issue is because you have a very hard water in your area ( which they know before due to sale the unit to you) I don’t see how you can win. I want a refund which I didn’t receive, the unit is not working, but is on your expenses installation and de installation.
Please stay away from Halcyan water unit, otherwise will straggling like me!

What a Transformation!
We live in East Anglia and for years we have suffered with problems from 'HARD WATER'. This results in limescale build up on taps, on hand basins, baths and showers and also in kettles and other utensils.
This is time consuming and expensive with regular cleaning and maintenance.
I seriously considered various salt based water softeners but they all somewhat bulky and also incur on-going cost and inconvenience.
Fortunately I learned of Halcyan Water Conditioners. Initially I was sceptical about their publicity and product claims but after further investigation decided to go ahead and fit one of their devices. Fitting was straight forward and now after three months of usage I am absolutely delighted with the on-going performance. It has to be seen to be believed and the water out of the taps even has a 'different feel'.
There is a significant one off initial cost for this device but what a wonderful result.
Once tried you would not regret this change for one minute.
Thanks so much to Halcyan and to Nick Slatton for his patience and support

We live in one of the hardest water areas of the UK. Had this product installed about a month ago and it's awesome.
My hair is soft again, my skin isn't at dry and I'm not wasting hours scrubbing limescale off everything.
Plus I never have to service it or worry about it again.
Expensive but definitely worth it for our house! Thanks.

bought to protect two new bathrooms Looking good 2 years on.London water
Bathroom installer sceptical. " High priced piece of copper pipe?"
I took a chance: . No regrets over alternative salt things. Its not perfect like those but the lime scale just seems to rub off
"Pleasure for effort ratio ?": This device vs lugging heavy bags of salt/ third tap for drinking water/ external drainage
No contest. Recommend. ciao Phil

Good people to deal with when making initial investigation into product. Clear, precise and confident in their product. We live in a very hard water area and a water softener is essential.
This product is far superior to a softener in my opinion. Ease of installation, no footprint just cut out the appropriate length of pipe and replace with the Halcyan pipe.
No salt to be bothered with.
No worrying which taps have softened water and which don’t Just drink from any tap.
Installed in our new home and working for nearly three months. We are delighted with the decision to go Halcyan.
