would be a zero

would be a zero. What kind of bank will let you open an account but not close one. Unbelievably inept. Apple is great until it comes to Apple pay, what a disaster. I can close my account with Apple no problem, try closing the very same account with these jokers. Over it, never coming back to Apple pay or Apple cash. bye!

I wish I can leave this place a -1000…

I wish I could leave this place at -1000 because this is the worst card service ever. The fact that they tried to steal my money sends me on a wild goose chase is crazy knowing that they are the ones who stole my money in the first place. Their customer service sucks and they don’t like to be held accountable. Or if you ask them why this happened they will hang up in your face. If the store they accuse of stealing asked to be merged in the call with Green Dot. Green dot will hand up. The worst card they charge you for everything If you use your pin they charge you 1.95 each time. This company is a big scam and I’m so glad I recorded each conversation with them. If my money is not put back on my card. I will be with this company. Nothing but bad reviews. Smh lets me know y'all been stealing money ppl just didn’t catch onto what happened to their money. Do they use these ppl for nothing? I would have used them but since my bank is out of state I had to get my money deposited on this card. I’m going to open up my account locally so I never have to deal with this pos company in my life.

I moved towards an online bank years…

I moved towards an online bank years ago after moving out of an urban area. Green Dot provided me with cash back at my local Walmart, which was my only option for groceries. It just made sense.
Fast forward to January 2026. While working in Ohio, I noticed two charges totaling $1,620.00 appear on my account from a New Jersey store. I immediately contacted Green Dot to report the fraud. What followed was an insane journey, providing me with new knowledge of just how horrid this bank is, how many times they've been sued, and how they gatekeep your information and make it nearly impossible to access it. My fraud report was denied a total of 6 times. I had to file a police report, get a detective involved in a different state (New Jersey), and escalate it all the way up to the FDIC. This involved a large amount of time speaking with the store and corporate office where the theft took place, as well as time spent via email and phone with the FDIC (due to Green Dot violating Reg.E of the FDIC). Then, out of nowhere, after my detective got a subpoena for video footage of the actual crime, my account was closed. This happened while I was at the Emergency Room with my father, who had just had a stroke and is hospitalized. Now my account is frozen, I have no access to the thousands of dollars sitting in it, and no way to provide for myself or my father, or to pay my bills, while Green Dot lazily issues a check to my address. If I had time to give you the whole story and provide the insane phone-recorded conversations I've had with their customer service, you would never, under any circumstances, open an account with this bank or utilize any of their services. The reason for freezing my account without notice, according to them, was "suspicious activity." Despite my knowing that ZERO suspicious activity has occurred. I know this because an arrest will be made for my fraud case, and my account is being monitored to ensure the thieves do not attempt this again. This has become such an annoying and time-consuming experience that if I find out a business works with this bank, I will avoid that business as well. I cannot express this enough - DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS BANK, and before you do, just Google their name. Check out their lawsuits and the public complaints. Green Dot Corporation is a horrible experience all the way around. They truly do not care about the American consumer.

Report GREEN DOT BANK to the federal reserve

Apple does not give us a choice but to use green dot bank in order to use Apple Cash. I have been trying to get my money back for MONTHS after my Apple Cash was breached by a scammer who is able to keep charging me $20 multiple times a month under an “Ai” app name. Green dot refuses to help its customers.

I reported them to their regulator, Federal Reserve, and to the FBI IC3 unit. I recommend anyone slighted by them do the same. These banks line their pockets by not protecting their customers and enough is enough.

This is the worst card ever

This is the worst card ever. Never used the account, my first direct deposit got "lost", then my account got locked and closed for no reason. Finally, the non English speaking customer service representative, hung up the phone and never called back. I'm so glad I never had money in this account. I HATE THIS COMPANY!

2/5/2026 opened a account requiring a initial $100.00 deposit. Transferred $100.00 from my BOFA to Greendot. Transfer complete 2/9/2026. Informed must receive a Greendot Visa card to complete activation. Card arrived 2/13/2026. Followed prompts on line to activate card which required a $100.00 deposit to activate. Transferred from BOFA again. With this done I wanted to review my account balance to discover no deposits are shown. Called customer sertvice # listed on back of new account card. Prompt required 16-digit account # 3-digit security # and my full SS#. After long wait a rep answered (obviously not in US) gave them identifying info requested and expressed my issue regarding deposits and no sign of them in my account. Long story short, the CSR was reading a script and not at all comprehending my concern. I canceled everything with my account and receieved a cancelation confirmation #. I called my BOFA CSR# to make certain the 2nd $100.00 deoposit does not go through. The first $100.00 deposit is in the wind. Worst bank experience ever.

Another Inferior U.S. based bank Debit Card

I ordered a personalized card from this company, and I waited a reasonable amount of time, as given by the company, for it. It never came, then when I asked about it, telling customer service I ordered one, Green Dot said one hadn't been ordered. I told them about an email confirming the sending of it, and the website online account which confirmed the same. Still a denial one had been ordered, or they deleted it from the system 4 some reasons, the order, with no record it had ever been placed. I promptly closed the account with them, in the unlikely, but heartfelt, hope of irreparably damaging the reputation of U.S. private sector commerce, because if or when it comes to me, its commercialism--people with automaton behaviors &/or attitudes resentful of those not exhibiting the same.

Avoid Green Dot

Avoid Green Dot – Terrible Service and Unreliable Cards
I wish I could give zero stars. The card barely works—sometimes it works at one store, then fails at the next. It’s incredibly frustrating and completely unreliable. On top of that, they apparently think it’s okay to close accounts and just hold onto people’s money.
Their “customer service” is a joke—more like “customer do nothing.” I’ve never seen such a lack of accountability. If you value your money and sanity, stay far away from Green Dot.

Restricted account

Just fyi: WE CAN NAIL THESE GUYS RIGHT NOW. REPORT THEM TO THE FEDERAL RESERVE AS SOON AS THEY PULL THIS SONG AND DANCE ON YOU. The federal reserve is like telling your dad your bigger brother hit you. Then dad gets out the belt.

Note these people were sued 44m already in 2024 by the federal reserve. Greendot had 2 years to fix their system. This is post enforcement noncompliance and the proof is in the amount of testimonies you give them that they are still pulling this sh, REPORT THEM TODAY BOYS AND GALS.

Restricted account, promised refund refused, mirrors post-enforcement failures
I purchased a prepaid card and loaded $150. During registration, I provided my SSN and then government ID. The system failed verification twice with no appeal or human review. My account was restricted so I could not withdraw cash or reload funds, yet spending was still allowed.

Before the restriction, I loaded the card to cover active subscriptions so they would not be canceled.

After restriction, those charges processed while my funds were inaccessible via ATM. Customer support explicitly promised a refund and a fee waiver. Later, after multiple transfers, an escalations representative waived the monthly fee but refused the promised refund due to pending transactions, then ended the call.

This mirrors issues regulators have already cited: automated verification failures, restricted access to funds, contradictory support, and lack of meaningful resolution.

You can fight back. Reporting is easy. You can call the Federal Reserve directly and they will walk you through the reporting process, which takes about 10 minutes. Document everything and report today.

Green Dot was hit with a $44 million Federal Reserve enforcement action for these exact issues. When the same problems continue after that enforcement, it is considered post-enforcement noncompliance, meaning the company failed to implement the fixes it was ordered to make.

If we all report them now, they WILL be nailed for it. FIGHT. BACK. NOW.

I would also strongly advise avoiding this product unless you are prepared for restrictions with no real appeal process.

Took months for a refund

Bought a prepaid card from them in September. It never worked. Tried calling their 1800 number and was constantly disconnected. Tried online/Facebook customer service. They gave me a corporate complaint department number. I had to escalate my complaint to my States Attorney Generals office and finally in December got a check for reimbursement and a $35 were sorry fee. Please research before you use this company! Thousands of others have been taken for large sums of money! Luckily they only got me for $100! I will never give them another penny!

I only gave it 1 star bc I had to

I only gave it 1 star bc I had to, if I could give negative stars I would have done so. I bought 2 cards. Card 1 had expired date on card out of package from store, so they wouldn’t activate and when I called they wouldn’t reimburse it. Card 2 activated then my account wasn’t verified and they locked my card. I’ve contacted BBB and reported them. They need to be subject to a class action lawsuit

Worst bank ever, I use my Apple Cash and there was money taken out of my account it’s fraud and I have to wait ten business days for my refund absolutely obnoxious no bank in the USA makes anyone wait 10 days for a fraud transaction I wouldn’t advise this thing to a dead person. Run far far far far away do not use Apple Cash because they will steal your money and take forever or not at all refund your money.
