BEWARE: Freewill will contact your beneficiaries

I was shocked to learn that Freewill makes the beneficiaries of my will- the non profits- aware that they are in my will. I expected confidentiality when I did the will. This led to these groups contacting me, and now are calling me at home and requesting more donations. I contacted free will and asked them to delete my account. So read the fine print, maybe it is in there somewhere, but for me, I am angry and will go to a lawyer who respects confidentiality.

Hello,

Thank you for sharing this feedback, and we're sorry for the frustration and unwanted outreach you’ve experienced after using FreeWill.

FreeWill takes user privacy and confidentiality very seriously, and we do not share a will-maker’s information with a nonprofit unless the user has specifically opted in to have us notify that organization of their gift intention.
When someone includes a charitable bequest in their will using FreeWill, our tool explicitly asks whether they would like us to share their contact information with the nonprofit, or to keep their gift anonymous. Information is only passed along if the user selects that option.

If you haven't already contacted our support team, they would be happy to assist you with updating these preferences in your estate plan or deleting your FreeWill account. If you would like assistance with either of these, please reach out to them by emailing help@freewill.com.

Thank you,
Jenny Xia Spradling

I am happy to endorse FreeWill for…

I am happy to endorse FreeWill for making an often overwhelming process simple, accessible, and meaningful. Their platform removes many of the common barriers to estate planning by offering a free, easy-to-use way to create a legally valid will.

FreeWill stands out for its clear guidance, user-friendly design, and commitment to helping people take an important step in planning for the future. What can feel complicated and intimidating becomes manageable and straightforward, even for those with no prior legal experience.

I especially admire FreeWill’s mission-driven approach. By partnering with nonprofit organizations, they not only help individuals protect their wishes and loved ones, but also make it easier to leave a lasting impact through charitable giving.

Overall, FreeWill provides a valuable service that empowers more people to take control of their legacy with confidence and ease.

New Florida Resident

As a recent resident of Florida, it was a delight to find FreeWill on line and truly free! The website is awesome, the instructions are clear, and the process is simple, yet very detailed. As a resident in other states, I’m used to paying a substantial sum to an attorney’s office for a project of this size. Fortunately, Florida does not require an attorney’s involvement to craft a will, durable POA, or healthcare directive. This site leads you through an intuitive & probing process to move through each document to completion. I was able to compare these documents to my current ones and all the bases were covered. Then it’s a matter of getting 2 witnesses and a notary to complete their legality, then communicating its location and sending off a copy for safe storage. No step was left out and this was a gratifying, low cost option to make sure all end of life wishes are documented to your liking. Bravo for a wonderful product and bringing a good thing to those of us who like to plan ahead!!
