Many customers found the booking process problematic, citing issues with price discrepancies and unexpected additional fees. Reviewers frequently encountered difficulties with customer service, describing it as unhelpful, hard to reach, and often leading to unresolved issues. The refund process was also a major source of frustration, with many struggling to obtain their money back or facing significant delays. The service provided was often criticized for being unreliable, particularly when changes or cancellations were needed. Scammed by Expedia

I feel like I have been scammed by Expedia by what looks like 1'000's of reviews. There must be something we can all do? to take this further where they are liable to give a refund?
Due to Cyclone Narelle our flight was cancelled to Learmonth airport being closed. I contacted Expedia, where frustratingly the only way to contact is to have Virtual assistant and then type messages out in an online chat. I requested Refund for the flight that was cancelled. They gave me a Case number. then I get an email that they have booked me in to a flight the following week. There was an option on that email to select Cancel which I did but then they did not cancel me on this flight and I received email from Qantas again about being ready for the flight. I needed to go through same process all over again and received another 2nd Case number and they said someone will be in contact with me in the next 72 hours although have heard nothing. I have since received another email from Qantas and then Expedia booking me on yet another flight because the 2nd flight date (that I thought I had cancelled because I never requested that date) was cancelled again and so they booked me on yet another flight. i have selected Cancel and again on the Virtual chat with no resolution. These tickets cost $900 and so I want that money back as it was out of my control. I feel we should be able to take this further if they do not refund which reading all these messages it looks to be a commone occurence. They should not be able to get away with this.

Free Cancellation is a Total Lie

Free Cancellation is a Total Lie. In spite of very clear language and paying extra for free cancellation if I cancel within the next three weeks Expedia is refusing to let me cancel unless the host of the room they rented me agrees.

I will never use expedia.com anymore

I will never use expedia.com anymore. I travel a lot. I was in Thailand. My flight got canceled from Qatar airlines and they still charged me a $250 fee when Qatar airlines was not charging any cancellations fee. I think Expedia is a joke and I will never use them again.

Staff barely speaks English. TERRIBLE COSTUMER SERVICE

Staff barely speaks English.

I had an extremely frustrating experience with Expedia, and I will never use their service again. Their customer service is absolutely terrible. When an issue came up with my booking, I expected them to advocate for me as their customer—but instead, they immediately sided with the hotel without even making a genuine effort to understand my situation.

It felt like Expedia’s priority was protecting their partnership with the hotel rather than helping the person who actually paid for the reservation. Every interaction with their support team was exhausting—long wait times, scripted responses, and no real solutions. I was passed around from one representative to another, each one less helpful than the last.

What’s most disappointing is the complete lack of accountability. Instead of taking responsibility or trying to resolve the issue fairly, they simply defaulted to agreeing with the hotel, leaving me stuck and out of pocket.

If you value your time, money, and peace of mind, I strongly recommend booking directly with hotels instead of using Expedia. At least then you’ll know who you’re dealing with—because with Expedia, don’t expect support when you actually need it.

Expedia? Never means never again.

I’ve used Expedia on only a few occasions. One thing I can say is they are consistent.
Consistently I have had misrepresentations on the property I rented. The photos provided were for a different property. The address was wrong. The amenities were simply not included - I’m talking oven, microwave, full size fridge, expresso machine, “dining table” (when it was a tiny metal outdoor table 60cm diameter and 2 folding metal stools) ….. etc.
The location information was false. The nearby amenities false.
When I attempted multiple times to place a review for 2 of the properties, Expedia would consistently say “the review had ‘profanity’ or something else which they did not).

Never using Expedia for any booking ever again.

Blatant Theft This system forces me to provide one…

This system forces me to provide one star before I can continue but minus stars would be appropriate.
Due to circumstance my motel agreed to last minute cancel my booking which they processed but my card was never credited.
When emailing to enquire you will constantly referred to
booking.com and other members of the web and no information supplied will be enough.
In result they have stolen the money in full that they only had a right to a commission on.
No national authority has any interest as they operate internationaly I think from China.

If I could give 0 star I would

If I could give 0 star I would. The company and its practices are so bad.even the employees sound robotic. They say things like they want to help but end up trying to sell you things that you didn't even ask for. Many times it's just a problem with simple comprehension. I'm just done.

PUBLIC HEALTH HAZARD - Expedia refuses refund despite BED BUG infestation

Absolutely disgraceful and dangerous behavior. I documented a severe bed bug infestation at "Budgetel Bergen" a full month in advance, providing photographic evidence and recent guest warnings.

Incredibly, Expedia’s dispute department confirmed to me in writing that the property underwent pest control treatments only 5 weeks ago and that Rentokil (pest control company) is currently scheduled for further emergency inspections. Despite this clear admission of an ongoing biological hazard, Expedia refuses to refund my money.

Furthermore, they attempted to coerce me into signing a "Letter of Agreement" to waive my consumer rights in exchange for a cancellation. They are prioritizing profit over public safety and the risk of travelers spreading parasites back to their homes. I had to pay for alternative safe accommodation out of my own pocket.

I have officially reported both Expedia and the property to the Norwegian Food Safety Authority (Mattilsynet) and the Chief Municipal Physician of Bergen (Kommuneoverlegen).

DO NOT BOOK WITH EXPEDIA. They act in bad faith and show zero regard for traveler safety and hygiene standards.

1 Star – Zero Accountability for Safety and Physical Injury

Expedia’s dispute resolution process is a total failure for travelers. This company sells "luxury" packages but takes zero responsibility when those packages result in a hazardous environment, physical injury, and chemical negligence.
Even when provided with clear, documented evidence—including photographs of bodily harm and admissions of negligence from the merchant—Expedia hides behind their status as a "third-party intermediary." Their support team is dismissive, ignores safety-related facts, and refuses to provide a fair refund for a completely breached contract.
Do not book through this platform if you expect any level of customer protection or accountability. If your trip becomes dangerous or leads to injury, Expedia will leave you stranded and keep your money. Highly recommend booking directly or through a more reputable member service.

Total bait and switch

Total bait and switch. Booked through Expedia for 2 day rental for $53. Took 56 minutes for shuttle from Houston airport to company door including waiting time. Then several upcharges NOT disclosed at time of booking, including $53 to confirm my own insurance, $23/day to decline to use their toll device, $30/day to drive across state line into Louisiana or $2600 penalty if not paid in advance. I declined to pay extra charges and they will not refund the initial charge. Expedia was worthless in helping with this, wasted 2 hours on a “Help” chat that went nowhere and will never use them again.

This has been a frustrating experience

This has been a frustrating experience. Customer service sucksss as they are not English speakers, heavy accent and take foreverrrr to pull things up, are slow and clueless. Firstly, i was booking for a different month and it automatically booked the wrong month, good thing i realized in time. When trying to rectify it said i cannot change dates and there are no charges for cancellation or penalty and we get a credit, since i just had to change the month i took the credit. Now when i call to rebook, they say to use your credit there is a penalty of $99, now I'm paying additional for their mistake, when i was booking it shows me a diff price on my app and they are quoting a different price. Now i am stuck with a credit i need to pay to use, without tye credit i am getting a much cheaper flight. Never using Expedia ever again.

Nightmare! Trying to correct a name on a flight booked thru Expedia!

I booked a flight with one airline and a return flight with a different airline. I realized that the first name last name were switched. After 10 days I was finally able to get the outgoing flight corrected, but they failed to correct the return flight although this was always communicated from the very beginning. Every 48 hours they would send me another request for information, and then ask that the information be sent in a specific format. Just give me everything upfront! I will never book another flight with Expedia.

Horrible service - scammers - Expedia and all their scammers merchants, you will get not refunds.

Horrible service, VERY hard to get a hold on customer service, and when you do surprise!! nothing is their fault, you have to contact the hotel and airlines yourself.
you book a reservation and if you cancel it even within their timeframe, you won't receive your money back or any help to help you get a refund from the merchants, a whole scam chain starting from the Expedia company and their helpers scammers, I'm closing this shitty account with Expedia.

I haDo not trust Expedia for car rentals – hidden fees and poor experience”d a very disappointing experience…

I had a very disappointing experience renting a car through Expedia, and I will never use them for car rentals again.

First, the insurance they sell is NOT accepted by Hertz. Thankfully, Expedia refunded that portion after I contacted customer service, but this should have been made clear from the beginning.

The biggest issue was the total cost. My reservation showed a total of $471.33 (including $112 for insurance), and I was told I would pay $349.33 at pickup. However, when I arrived, after fees and taxes, I ended up paying $832.34 — more than double what I expected.

This lack of transparency is unacceptable. Customers deserve to know the real price upfront, not be surprised at the counter. On top of that, after spending an entire month trying to resolve this issue, all they say is that those fees are listed somewhere on the website and that if you click here or there, you can find them. But that information should not be hidden or buried in small print. That is not transparency.

I’ve been a loyal Expedia customer for years, booking hotels, all-inclusive packages, and cruises without issues. But when it comes to car rentals, this experience has completely changed my opinion.

To make matters worse, I’ve spent an entire month trying to resolve this issue. Calls drop constantly, I’ve had to explain the same situation over and over again, and the process has been extremely frustrating.

My recommendation: use another company for car rentals. With Expedia, you may end up paying much more than expected — without a clear explanation.

I hope no one else has to go through this.

Appalling and untrustworthy

Appalling service and changed booking without my consent. We had a return flight booked and the return flight was cancelled by BA. Expedia never contacted us about this so I had to reach out directly. The agent, Joy, offered an alternative flight or refund. As the alternative flight was for a different day I selected refund for the cancelled flight. Joy then proceeded to refund both flights (which I had not requested). On querying this Joy simply left the chat so I could not pursue this further. Following this, Joy booked me on a completely different flight for several months later (confirmed in an email). She did this without my consent. On querying this with other agents no one would explain how this happened. I am deeply concerned by Expedias conduct in this matter and how the agent Joy acted. I would like to make a complaint and have emailed a generic email address they provided but I have not had a response. I will not be using Expedia again.

It was the worst experience ever

It was the worst experience ever, I tried booking a flight but needed to make a date change, but even with the so called travel insurance, they made it impossible to change, completely criminal the way they take your money, offer you no help, and you are screwed. I would never use them again and would tell everyone I know to never book through them. I would give them zero rating if I could.
