Many customers found the booking process problematic, citing issues with price discrepancies and unexpected additional fees. Reviewers frequently encountered difficulties with customer service, describing it as unhelpful, hard to reach, and often leading to unresolved issues. The refund process was also a major source of frustration, with many struggling to obtain their money back or facing significant delays. The service provided was often criticized for being unreliable, particularly when changes or cancellations were needed. Never again!

Never again!
Renting a car through Expedia: I found much cheaper deals than through Skyscanner or other platforms - but then I started looking for the insurance terms - these are well concealed, and only after contactong the supprt of Expedia I found out that the rental fee does not include basic insurance as in other platforms (even for same car and rental company) - Should I not noticed that I would have paid a lot more at the desk!

Poor customer service

Save yourself a headache and book directly with the airline/hotel/car rental company or use an actual travel agent. This company seems to want to punt you around to anyone but someone actually able to help you with your reservations.

I usually don't have a problem with…

I usually don't have a problem with Expedia but I also have never needed to make changes to reservation. Making changes is ridiculous and 5 days later, they are still unable to get back to me about the change. Also, the travel insurance is a scam and is through a 3rd party so pretty much useless. Of course their CSR's are God knows where and try to help but it's a call center.

Anything but helpful

Booked a flight to China and long story short, flight got cancelled but the saddest part was that Expedia did NOTHING to help us with the situation. Tried calling them, and all they did was either left us hanging, or ended the call without rendering any assistance to resolve the situation. Flight kept getting cancelled and Expedia staff was anything but helpful. We ended up going straight to customer service counter in china to booked direct tickets back. Easily the worst platform to be booking your tickets please avoid this platform at all cost. Go to other websites to get your tickets at least they don't leave you in the lurch.

Expedia Predatory Practices - Car Rentals

I booked a car rental through Expedia for Hilo, Hawaii. I prepaid for this reservation. The Expedia receipt states “all mandatory taxes and fees are included.” But when I got to the rental counter, I was charged $51 extra. Expedia tried to give me the run around and said that they weren’t responsible for those fees. It took four attempts to reach them to get an Expedia credit for it, but my bigger issue is that this company is committing a predatory practice by falsely advertising a lower price, telling the customer that all taxes/fees are included, only for the customer to then be hit with additional local tax when picking up the car. Do NOT rent cars through Expedia.

Booked $150 car → forced to pay $380…

Booked a car through Expedia for $150 total.
At pickup in Punta Cana, I was required to pay an additional $380 in mandatory charges that were not clearly disclosed at the time of booking.
This was not optional — I could not receive the vehicle without paying.
Expedia refuses to refund, stating I “signed at pickup,” but this ignores the fact that the full cost was not transparently presented upfront.
This is misleading pricing. Be careful when booking.

Masterclass in Deception

Expedia’s refund policy is less about customer service and more about a calculated "gotcha" game involving the clock. If you’re looking for a company that prioritizes technicalities over common sense, you’ve found it.
I attempted to cancel my reservation by what any reasonable human being considers the "deadline" of midnight. However, Expedia uses the 12:00 a.m. trap. By defining the deadline as 12:00 a.m. on the date of arrival, they effectively ensure the deadline has passed the very second that day begins. Most people—you know, the ones who don't live in a legal contract—view midnight as the end of the day, not the invisible thief that robs you of your refund eligibility before you’ve even had your morning coffee.
The Reality of the "Midnight" Policy:
The Deception: They advertise a cancellation date, but by setting the time at 12:00 a.m., they’ve essentially shortened your window by a full 24 hours compared to what a consumer logically expects.
Zero Flexibility: When I pointed out this obvious ambiguity, the response was a wall of corporate indifference. No option to move the reservation, no partial credit—just a firm "thanks for the free money."
Predatory Logic: They rely on the fact that "12:00 a.m." is a linguistic gray area to deny refunds on a technicality.
The Verdict: Expedia would rather keep your money on a semantic "win" than keep a customer for life. They are hiding behind a clock to avoid doing the right thing. Save yourself the headache and the "late" fees—book directly with the hotel. At least they understand how a calendar works.

Do not use Expedia for ANYTHING!

Expedia screwed me TWICE! and didn't care!! They quoted me one price on 2 separate occasions for a hotel, and it was quoted as "what you see is what u pay" until I checked out both times had close to $100 in additional fees. When I called to speak with them about their false advertisement. The SUPERVISOR seemed quite overworked. I had to say hello to see if she was still on the phone. I was not yelling or beligerrent in any manner. She simply said yes ma'am sometimes their are additional fees, I said well how can you take away my choice by saying this is the final price with your pop up boxes!! She had no answer, no solution, no offers, the SUPERVISOR just sat on the phone! I will never use Expedia again. Only used them at the advice of a.friend. I'm a long time hotwire user and never have this experience with them. I will warn everyone know about Expedia and they help you to resolve or keep their word. Your just screwed out of your money.

Complete Travel Breakdown – No Support When It Mattered

I booked a flight from Toronto to Madrid through Expedia and it turned into one of the worst travel experiences I’ve had.

At check-in, my travel companion was denied boarding due to passport validity requirements that were never clearly flagged during the booking process. This immediately disrupted the trip and left us scrambling at the airport.

From there, things only got worse. The flight itself was delayed, turned around after departure, and became so unreliable that I would have missed my connection anyway. After hours of confusion and stress, the trip became completely unworkable and I had no choice but to abandon it and return home.

What’s most frustrating is that booking through a platform like Expedia is supposed to add a layer of support and clarity—but in this case, it did the opposite. Critical travel requirements weren’t communicated, and when everything fell apart, there was no meaningful assistance.

This wasn’t just an inconvenience—it resulted in a total loss of the trip and a significant amount of money.

I would strongly caution others to double-check all requirements independently and not rely on third-party booking platforms to provide accurate or complete information.

I booked a car rental through Expedia… Never AGAIN!

I booked a car rental through Expedia that included insurance, and the pickup location was supposed to be at the airport—but it wasn’t. Once I arrived at the rental office, I was told the Expedia insurance wasn’t valid under the rental company’s terms and conditions. I was then pressured into purchasing their own insurance package at a much higher cost, loaded with unwanted add-ons. In the end, the total price tripled. Expedia shouldn’t offer insurance that isn’t actually accepted. I won’t use them again—stay away.

Hotel SCAM

I booked a hotel on a date that I was in the town and the website moved the date to next available rather than confirm there were not longer rooms available for that date. Then there was no refund available because I did not purchase insurance. I didn't need insurance I was 30 minutes from the hotel. I called to ask if I could change the date and there were not more rooms available at the hotel so it was clearly fraud. Beware of discounts they have unfair practices to steal money from consumers and they know fully what they are doing.

Headline: Exploitative and inaccessible—forcing a stroke survivor to fight for their own money

I am disgusted with the treatment I received from Expedia. After they essentially swindled me out of £70.07 BEWARE THE BAIT AND SWITCH: Watch out at the final payment page. They advertised one price, but then switched the figures right at the point of purchase. This is a deceptive and despicable tactic used to swindle customers. Between the rude staff and these predatory pricing tricks, they have zero integrity.", I was forced to navigate a bureaucratic nightmare just to get a refund that was rightfully mine. Which was never even issued by Expedia I had to navigate my bank's own system over the course of 10 days to receive a refund back that is still currently in dispute !! Do not use Expedia or if you do it's at your own risk !!
As a double-stroke survivor, I found their system intentionally complex and inaccessible. I spoke to two representatives; the second was blatantly rude, and the supervisor I dealt with via email was completely incompetent.
I shouldn't have to spend my limited energy and health on a bank recall because a multi-billion pound company refuses to act with basic ethics. I have now cancelled my account and will never use them again. If you value customer service or have any health vulnerabilities, stay far away from Expedia."

Expedia & Generali

I had a terrible experience with both Expedia and Generali Global Assistance. I booked a cruise through Expedia and purchased trip insurance through Generali, thinking I’d be protected if anything went wrong.
Unfortunately, our flight with Frontier Airlines had an engine failure, which caused us to miss our cruise entirely — something completely out of our control.
That’s when things got even worse.
Generali has been extremely difficult to deal with and has not honored what the insurance is supposed to cover. Getting any kind of refund feels nearly impossible. On top of that, Expedia has shown zero flexibility — they wouldn’t even consider applying what I paid toward another cruise.
What’s the point of buying travel insurance if it doesn’t actually protect you when you need it?
This whole situation feels like a scam. I trusted both companies to have my back during unexpected circumstances, and they completely failed. I will NEVER book another trip through Expedia or use Generali insurance again.
BE AWARE — don’t get fooled into thinking you’re covered. When something goes wrong, you may be left on your own.

Not refunding for the tickets they cancelled

Booked flight tickets through Expedia, 2 weeks ago they sent an email saying some of the flights have changed and if i accept the changes or not, if i dont then i can cancel the flights. I cancelled the flights as they didnt even give me an option that was suitable. The person I spoke to said I will receive the refund by end of the week, its been 2 weeks and I still have not received any refund. Today is the 3rd time i am contacting them, and they assured that they will end a confirmation email (did not receive that), also did not receive the refund. This is 662 GBP that i am waiting for.
