Hustle and attempt to SCAM! + Extremely Rude Service!
"WHAT IS IT?, WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM?" that how they say to the customer who's first- time arrival in the country.
My cousin rented a car from this company. His English is not perfect, but instead of helping, the staff were rude to him. They tried to push expensive extras, like insurance, that he did not want. When he said no, they became unfriendly and made him feel uncomfortable.
The rental was already booked and paid, but they kept saying he “must” buy more things, which cost almost the same as the rental. They even threatened to keep the booking fee we already paid if we cancelled. because they really try to scare and force customer to buy their freaking extra stuff

Waited forever at LAX airport for the bus to the rental station. Buses that did come by were full. Rude drivers. Total chaos. People pushing and shuffing to get onto a bus after an hour. A total disaster

Very Disappointing and Dishonest Experience with Dollar Car Rental – Orlando International Airport
Our experience with Dollar at Orlando Airport was extremely disappointing and unethical. Upon arrival, we faced a queue of over 2.5 hours with only one staff member at the counter. This employee behaved unprofessionally and in an intimidating manner. Customers were pressured into purchasing expensive and unnecessary additional insurance, even when they were already adequately insured — accompanied by misleading cost examples.
The service was slow, unfriendly, and far from customer-oriented. Additionally, when we received the car, the fuel tank was only half full, despite the contract clearly stating it should be full. Our complaint about this was dismissed.
In short: a highly frustrating and dishonest experience that no customer should have to go through. We strongly advise against using Dollar Car Rental

Reserved at car at Midway for early morning. My plane was an hour late so I assumed my car would be ready but it was not and I had to wait an hour. Never waited for a rental car in the past , so I will not be using them again.
Absolute rubbish
Absolute rubbish. Currently stuck in Palermo Airport because they won’t budge on the astronomical deposit they want to hire a puddle jumper. Staff behind the desk are as much use as a chocolate teapot. Absolute shit show start to our holiday with this mob. Avoid at all costs. Wish we had used someone more reliable
Forced Swap & Increase Rental Price
We rented a pre-paid car through Booking.com (generally very reliable) from Saturday, July 19th for our 9-day holiday from the Dollar.com at Edgware Road. We had selected a Polestar 2, which was advertised with a range of 220-250 miles, good enough for our trip out. On arrival at the Dollar.com location, we were told that (a) the car only had a range of 170 miles and, in any case, (b) it was not charged and we would have to wait 4 hours for it to be charged. The only other full-sized car available was £20 per day more expensive. They offered to refund our pre-paid amount but that would have left us without a car on the day of departure. So, without a choice, we were forced to pay the additional amount. Needless to say, only desperation will have us renting from Dollar.com again.

I appreciate the car being ready once I arrived at the Birmingham Airport Dollar rental area. Upon getting the rental agreement. I was given the options concerning how the vehicle should be refueled. What stood out to me is how they asked me to bring back the vehicle full of gas. When I recieved the receipt I found out the vehicle was only 91% full.I was told I would not be refunded for additional fuel. Other than my one fuel complaint, I had a great experience
Fraud at Dollar LAX
Picked up the car at LAX. The lady at the desk asked us if we wanted to buy extra insurance. We firmly said no to all extras she wanted to sell us. Still got charged almost $500 in insurance. Called Dollar about this several times and was told they were going look into it. They never looked into it, and we were charged when we returned the car. The car was not in good shape. Could not get a new car.
Please avoid
Please avoid. No response to the overcharge for fuel. Tried claiming the tank was $30 short despite filling up less than a mile from returns. Imagine losing future customers over a paltry $30 scam.
Dollar car rental - bandits
Hired a car at Palma airport returned car 30 mins late due to an accident which was totally out of our control. They charged an extra days rental which they just took with no explanation. Disgraceful do not use
Poor service, rubbish car
Picked our car up yesterday . After paying for a 7 seater, I was asked how many people would be in the car . They obviously wanted to downsize me as they had oversold. I was allocated a 2024 Ford Explorer . They were also very upset when I opted out of their rip off toll pass , and was then encouraged to return the car with no fuel , as their fuel is cheaper than the fuel stations ! We went to pick it up and in the space was a Nissan Maxima! After going back to the desk they said “oh sorry” . I have now been given a beat up GMC Acadia that only just holds our luggage but won’t leave room for additional luggage for our return trip to the airport. The car has barely been valeted and absolutely stinks .

I mad4 reservations through Expedia flor my flight and car. Flight was perfect then comes to the rental car. I opted for them to choose the car I would get. I get there the gentleman said we need the card to put a hold on it for the rental car that’s fine that is what they do. He was looking in the system and said I found a better car for you for 110.45. You will need to get hold of Expedia for their refund. I said that is great. No problem with the car. I returned it a little earlier than expected. The young man checked the car everything was good. He stared I would receive an invoice in my email.
Run out of gas just 5 km from the rental office
on 4 July 2027, I rented a car at Amman Airport (Queen Alia International Airport at 10 pm. Just about 5 km from the airport the car run out of gas. Fortunately, I managed to take the service road and got a taxi to buy few liters of gas to the car from nearby gas station. Then filled the car at the gas station. It was literally empty. It is really shocking to have such poor service from reputable company like Dollar. The strange thing when calling Dollar Company office in Amman to report the problem, the response was "we will inform the team to avoid this in the future and be careful". I returned the car with half tank of fuel. Hopefully will be used by the next customer.
USELESS DOLLAR CAR RENTALS/HERTZ
booked a car for Belfast International Airport (ref L1620384828) and received the following email on 14.3.25:
Hi LUIS LEIGHTON,
Thank you for choosing Dollar Car Rentals, proudly served by Hertz, for your upcoming adventure! Please proceed to the Hertz counter to pick up your rental vehicle.
I telephoned Hertz to double check that all was well today (11.7.25) to be told that the booking had been cancelled.
Absolutely shockingly poor service and useless operator.
Do not use. I regularly hire cars but this has been the worst experience by far. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.
Avoid this company
Avoid this company — left us stranded at the airport.
We booked in advance and arrived at Miami Airport, but there were no cars available. Instead of helping or offering alternatives, the staff simply shrugged it off. No upgrade, no refund, no support at all.
We ended up calling a family member to rescue us. This was not only frustrating — it was unacceptable.
We will never use this company again. Total lack of customer care.

I’m writing to formally complain about a frustrating experience I had when collecting my hire car.
Upon arrival at your branch, I was made to wait for over an hour, during which your staff told me they couldn’t find my booking, even though I presented them with my booking confirmation number and all relevant documents. I was even asked to call the platform I used to make the booking and confirm whether the reservation was real — which was unnecessary and extremely inconvenient.
Eventually, one of your team members casually admitted they may have given the car to someone else. That turned out to be the case — my reserved vehicle was mistakenly handed over to another customer.
This not only caused a delay of several hours but also disrupted the start of my trip. For a company of Dollar’s size and reputation, this kind of service is unacceptable. I expected a smooth and professional process — instead, I was left waiting and chasing after a booking that should have been handled properly.
I would appreciate an explanation of how this happened and what steps you will take to ensure it doesn’t happen again — and I believe some form of compensation is warranted for the time and inconvenience caused.
Looking forward to your response.
Bait & Switch // No Air conditioning in Phoenix?
I just booked a car in Phoenix where the weather is 114 degrees, paid up front and my confirmation says there's air conditioning (booked with Priceline). Dollar now tells me I booked a car without A/C (in the checkout page on their app) and to take it up with Priceline. Priceline says I booked a car with air conditioning, took my full payment and told me to take it back to Dollar - who already told me to take it to Priceline. Insanity.
There is no way an electric vehicle has no air conditioning but that's exactly what my Dollar rental confirmation says. If they allowed photos here, I'd upload the screenshot.
NEVER Rent from Dollar or Hertz!
In June 2025 I received a $1500 repair bill for a car I rented in February. I turned in the car in, and after the inspection was told I was good to go. There was no way to reach a human and was told all correspondence would be through email. The letter/email stated that if I did not pay by July 2, I would be sent to collections.
I did not damage this car, and if there was damage, I should have been notified immediately, not 10 weeks later. The pictures given were not clear and I was not visible in the car. The car had over 30K miles, so they likely wanted to sell it and needed someone to pay for damages that had incurred during the life of the rental.
Hertz apparently does the same thing, they run a car through AI for damage detection and send you a bill for damage as small as a scuff. This was cited by the New York Post on June 30th.
I have always rented from Dollar but will never do so again. I would rather Uber everywhere than do business with Dollar. This is a disgraceful business practice.
No more Dollar
I had to cancel a reservation for a one day period near JFK airport in NY. For one day the cost for a small car was $124.00. I called their number there, 866 434 2226 and got a recording that did not offer me a choice for cancellation. The recording just gave me choices I did not need and no operator "0" choice. Then it disconnected me. I called who I booked with, Expedia, and they told me Dollar does not refund a cancellation.
They refused to give us our deposit back and proceeded to completely ghost us.
Demanded that we take a car different from the one we rented. After we had left, they didn’t send us the 1000 Dirham deposit back (mind you this was almost 2 times the price of the 1 week rental), and proceeded to not respond to any Emails.
