NEVER EVER EVER EVER AGAIN

I've been back 22 days now and have still not had my 700E deposit back. Not just that but ZERO communications about when it could be returned.
There were no problems with the car on return and I was told a refund within 5 days. The next day I was CHARGED £205 EXTRA. I was aware of £100 charges as I returned to a different location but the rest were all hidden charges. It's impossible to communicate or get answers out of anybody, who knows if or when I'll get it back. It's a lot of money, to me anyway.

I got stung badly and very unfairly by Hertz before and swore I'd never use them again but a last minute thing meant I did. Never again. I'm not sure how they get away with this behaviour, it's just a racket. Corrupt, horrible company.

The Worst

It's a minor company that cooperate with bigger onces.
They are not clear; at the tenerife airport there was no desk and no indications about the fact we had to chekin with hertz

Terrible service and unauthorized charged

A truly terrible service. Avoid at all costs. Among the various problems unauthorised and unevidenced charges were added to our bill.
As so so many others have pointed out Hertz Dollar, and it's Bristol airport branch in particular, should be avoided at all costs. If you have already booked with them and cannot extricate yourself I would advise making a video of the car before and after the rental and making sure written approval of the videos is provided by Hertz Dollar. Based on my experience I would record all discussions with any member of hertz Dollar. If you can avoid hertz dollar do so at all costs to save yourself a lot of hassle.

Front desk monsters
I made a car rental reservation about 6 months before my trip and, when arriving to the airport, they simply would not give me my car. Even if It was already prepaid they requested a credit card with both my name and credit number printed on It. For security reasons in México they don't print both. We tryied with 5 different cards, we demonstrated that they were ours but nothing was enough for this monsters.
We traveled 12 hours to arrive, one of my kids needed to pee, the other was starving It was a whole mess that should not be because IT WAS ALREADY PAID. If you aré Mexican, avoid this company at all costs because they discriminate us.

hertz and dollar sane company slow and attitude service

hertz , Dollar rentals are the same company . Terrible slow service behind the counter at Maroochydore airport Queensland comes with attitude. we waited over an hour because they had no idea what they were doing with a poor bloke that had paid and booked his car in advance - to find out the booking was not completed due to their id issues . we all had to wait while no communication from the lady defined the counter was given to us why we were all just standing there ! would never book a rental from booking.com as they use Dollar for their rentals. not recommended at all use avis

Avoid Dollar and Hertz

Feel completely ripped off. I had a charge of just under 50% of my original booking fee added to my bill after I’d left the car back with the company at the airport. Nothing was discussed with me about any extra charge. I fulfilled all the terms of our agreement, returning the car within the timeframe and fully fuelled.
I go to try to contact the company but this is far from clear on the website. There certainly isn’t a clear option to “contact us” and not an option to call anyone.

After sending in a written message to complain and contest these charges I have been asked to resend the emails concerning the booking, then asked to resend them again in a different format and then a third time.

Eventually I received a reply and receipt with my charge stated as “miscellaneous”
And the charge stands.
There is no explanation of what this charge is for.

On trying to reply to this email I received emails back saying the email has not been sent and this account has been blocked by the server.

I feel completely ripped off.
Please don’t use this company or Dollar which is a subsidiary.

Absolutely appalling company

Absolutely appalling company. Took advantage of a stressed delayed traveller to mis-sell insurance. Totally unethical. The receipt is tiny and ridiculously complicated, impossible to read what you are actually signing and paying for. Avoid these cowboys. There are plenty of better options for airport car rental.

I arrived early at Liverpool airport

I arrived early at Liverpool airport, I was very unsure of the location of the office. But greeted with a lovely lady and she was very helpful on the transition of the hire. This only took 10 minutes, I was so impressed with her speedy action. The car was very clean and I would highly recommend Dollar to anyone who needs a hire car.
I recently hired from Drivalia , what a joke of a hire company in Liverpool, it took me 40 minutes to hire the car, this was because of I had to provide two forms of ID of my address, then when I returned the car I was accused of nicking a chip on the wheel hub…! And I didn’t do this. What a joke of a company

Tricked into car upgrade and insurance

So, we rented a car with Dollar (Catania Airport). Only one person working so it quickly became a long line in waiting for our prepaid car pickup. Even though I was clear about the everything should be prepaid including insurance the lady added extra insurance without asking or informing and made a car upgrade (!) to a bigger and more expensive car without even asking. When we, stressed by being late, understood this, it was to late to do anything about it. The car we had to rent was a huge car that was not nice at all to drive around with on the narrow streets, and we even had to pay extra for it. When later confronting them they completely denied it all and said we asked for it. AVOID THIS SCAM COMPANY AT ALL COSTS!

Rental car checked in 40 hours after I returned it

When I returned the rental car on Saturday evening, there was no one to check in the car. A sign stated to leave the keys in the car. I never received an invoice from dollar (and they have my email as they sent several emails before my rental started). The following Tuesday, I finally found a charge on my credit card. and it was $64 than expected. After visiting the website, entering information, and finally getting a receipt, I discovered they checked my rental car late Monday morning (I returned it Saturday at 5pm. So somehow they did not care to check in the car for 40 hours?). I was charged for an extra day of rental and a late fee.

There is no phone number on the dollar website anywhere. I used a google search and called the number listed for the rental site at the airport I had rented from. After a long period on hold, someone finally answered.

The person wanted proof I had gotten on my plane on Saturday. I had to find a screen shot proving I got on the plane. It took me time to search for this information and by the time I found it, I was told he no longer needed it and had processed a refund.

When I asked how much the refund was for, he said for the one day of rental which was 35.99. On the receipt, the extra day was clearly 38.99. I pointed this out and stated I also wanted the late fee refunded. After some more time, he stated the refund would now be $58.

I had been on the phone for 41 minutes at this point and did not have the energy to try to explain to this person that all the surcharges and taxes are charged on that extra day and late fee and the refund should be $64, not $58. I just took the $58.

in 5-7 days I will find out if the refund was actually processed back to my card.

Update: when the refund finally arrived on my credit card, it was for $51, not $58.

Based on the hassle, the poor processes (that the employees also have to deal with), and lack of professionalism, I will not rent with dollar again.

Guys Don’t Use this company, read……

Guys guys guys!!!!!!

Don’t use it. Tooo many hidden fees, £2,500 credit card limit, wasn’t mentioned when I done the booking. Plus they just charged me with £100 for cancellation because I don’t have a £2,500 limit. It’s just a big piece of a fraudulent company.

Really the worst experience

Really the worst experience. When you pick up a car they offer you find out they don’t actually have it at all. An employee offered me refuelling at a customized price and it didn't matter how full the tank was and they only charge for the refuelled amount, than you find out, they do not issue refunds for unused fuel. What a joke!

I rented a car in Orlando for 4 days…

I rented a car in Orlando for 4 days but decided to drive to Atlanta instead of flying. At the Orlando airport, a Dollar representative told me the drop-off change to Atlanta would cost $80 extra, which I accepted.

When I returned the car in Atlanta, I was told the contract didn’t reflect this, and I was charged extra $400. Despite providing proof of the agreement and months of email exchanges and numerous phone calls, Dollar refused to issue a refund.

It’s a scam

It’s a scam. I rented a car on the website and when i wend to pick it up they told me they needed a huge deposit and it won’t be returned till a month later! A scam and no refund nothing. Just a bunch of thieves.

SCAMMED!

SCAMMED- A LARGE AMOUNT OF MONEY!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY- REFER ALL RECENT REVIEWS!!
We booked a car from Newark Liberty to Pearson International Airport for a 2 week hire on an agreed contract of $1,592.88 USD including a $250 USD relocation fee. The car was returned to the correct dollar return crew at the correct location, 15 minutes early in perfect condition. Dollar, however, has not recorded the return and instead charged $6,433.39 USD to my credit card. There was also an additional amount charged of $4,200 USD on top of this that my bank was able to reverse. Despite continuous attempts to contact them by email and phone, all I have received back is generic emails not acknowledging the specifics of the issue. I have sent proof that we got on a flight out of the country from Pearson Airport immediately after we dropped the car off but even that hasn't helped. The result is as follows:
- My credit card is incurring high interest and the bank has cancelled it as part of the fraud enquiry and ongoing dispute
- Fraud Report has been submitted with the Federal Trade Commission
- Zero progress after one week
IN SUMMARY DO NOT GIVE THIS COMPANY YOUR CREDIT CARD DETAILS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!! CAR HIRED AND RETURNED EXACTLY PER $1,592 USD CONTRACT YET CHARGES OF APPROX $10,630 APPLIED. THEY HAVE NO REGARD OR RESPECT FOR YOUR CREDIT CARD OR FINANCES AND THEY HAVE NO INCENTIVE TO CORRECT THEIR ERRORS WHICH ARE GOING UNCHECKED.

On 30/07/2025 we have arrived after a long flight from UK at Orlando Airport MCO ready to pick up the vehicle that was booked via Booking. Com however I was told by staff at the location Amine that because I had a Romanian Passport and a British driving licence I was unable to collect the car and that he need it to call his manager. I have waited for the manager Margarita to arrive. On arrival Margarita was very rude completely ignored me and told me that I need it to have a British passport in order for me to pick up the car. I have explained that I reside in UK and I don't need a British passport however she stated that this was the policy for Dollar that the driving licence has to match the passport. I have asked her to provide me with the policy however she ignore me and she walked away to make a call. I was told that I should have a British passport in order for me to collect the car. This is the first time I felt discriminated because I was Romanian, being told that Romanian people are bad and that I should apply for a British passport as that will be better for me. I am really sorry but what planet we are on? Bad and good people are in all countries, is irelevant what document I have at long I have the documents provided by a valid guverment. After a long wait I have been provided with a vehicle however Maragita did not apologise for the inconvenience or attempt to mediate the situation by explaining what exacting is the policy. After Amin provided me with the car myself husband and children made our way to the vehicle given however having checked the car I have realised that the car given was dirty and scratched. While still in the car park I have spoken with David and David provided with a better vehicle and a better experience however the damage was done. I was left humiliated, heart broken and felt discriminated as the incident has taken place in front of a lot of people. This is not the first time I have traveled to USA however is the first time I felt discriminated.I will never ever book with this company or recomand Dollar to any of my friends.
