Belligerent, rude and incompetent for the most part

Belligerent, incompetent and rude customer service representatives for the most part.

Occasionally you will come across one that is courteous, competent and accommodating but for the most part the rest are aggressive, rude, belligerent, incompetent, lazy and would rather shout and pretend they know the facts that “someone else” has told them rather than listen to what the caller has to say to put them straight.

And they will disconnect the call if you offend them by saying things like “how would you know the facts, if I’m the one informing you what the facts are!”

But as with most organisations, they only employ people from the fast food pile so service is not based on intellect

Service levels - phone calls answered between 9am-12pm only, 30-45 minutes to answer a call and emails will be replied to within 28 days…….. my simple email query took 3 months to solve whereby I had to explain the process to the representative after doing a simple google search whereby it was the job that they did on a daily basis and didn’t know how to do it.

imagine having to pay £120 or more a month in council tax for that whereby most civilised countries offer this service for free!

Almost impossible to speak to a real person

In a queue for 51 minutes to speak to a real person on switchboard, at which point I was forwarded to mailbox because noone was available to take my call. As others have said, the AI assistant is annoying too..

I was issued a penalty charge for…

I was issued a penalty charge for driving into the restricted zone on Oakleigh Avenue, Derby, while delivering to a school. This happened during what should have been a school holiday, making the restriction both unnecessary and illogical. It is clear that this enforcement prioritizes revenue generation over common sense or community needs.

As a delivery driver providing an essential service to the school, I should not be penalized for doing my job. The council’s rigid and profit-driven approach to fines is incredibly frustrating and unfair.

Due to this incident, I have decided to leave Derby within the next 12 months. I will no longer contribute my taxes to a council that disregards fairness and enforces such poorly considered policies. I strongly urge the council to review its practices and demonstrate more support for local residents and workers.

The planners who thought that the…

The planners who thought that the idiotic roadworks that have been ongoing in Chaddesden for over 2 years was a good idea need sacking. Apart from the constant restrictions due to unnecessary alterations to pathways, some complete fool thinks that closing access to Raynesway from Nottingham Road is a good idea, and for what? Narrowing the road so that anybody turning right now creates unnecessary traffic as there's nowhere to pass on the left. We need better infrastructure not worse. Most cities are trying to lower carbon emissions, not Derby, the emissions from the constant queuing traffic must be horrendous if that's what you're interested in.

Never ending roadworks…

Sick of the roadworks on Nottingham Road from Lydl to Asda. Been around a year now. Todays experience prompted the review that they have shut the road completely from Oregon Way, so you can’t actually get out of Chaddesden to get to Raynesway or the A52, I originally thought that’s a great idea on a busy Sat, but online it’s shut for a week.

Greedy Councillors

The state of derby can be improved really easily, get rid of the council members, it seems they are very good at charging you for everything, but not reinvesting, so begs the question where is all our hard earned cash going, one councillor has 3 pensions, still working for Rolls Royce and is an elected Labour MP, self investing works then and I bet he's fiddled his heating payment as well, representing Derby yeah right
I think after reading all the reviews, none of which has had any response from Derby City Council by the way, they presumably either don't read them or aren't bothered, best thing for the rate payers of Derby is on mass, stop paying, things surely wouldn't be any worse. HOW SAD IS THIS

Spondon Derby village is now just a cash cow after Derby council have screwed up the roads and turned the village a one way screw up with signs facing one direction and not the other to notify drivers and just to add in a more of a up yours they stick a hidden camera there, and now they are diverting more traffic and when you try to get back into the village main road you end up in the one way system again, what a bunch of cowboys, transport cash cows.

Talk to the Hand

For the first time in my life I received a reminder letter from Derby City Council telling me that I haven't paid my council tax. I was amazed since I set up a Direct Debit for this purpose two years ago and had certainly not cancelled it. There was a phone number on the letter so I tried to phone to find out what had gone wrong. (I know, but I'm old and still think you can talk to a human being) Of course I got a robot, who couldn't understand me. Eventually I was put through to a real person. Joy! I began to explain the situation and was cut short. 'The Council Tax department is closed for the day'. This was at one thirty in the afternoon! I then went to my bank's website to check on the Direct Debit. Yup - still active. The council had used it once - in 2022 when I set it up - and not since! God alone knows what I must owe by now. So I paid what they'd asked for by card. Still frustrated that I can't talk to anyone about this and find out why they stopped taking the money directly. But this is so typical of Derby Council. 'Talk to the hand' seems to be their motto. They simply will not communicate, leaving their customers livid and unable to sort problems out.

Useless

Useless. The website is so unintuitive, I can't even pay a council tax bill. With emails people rarely get back to you and if they do there is 3 weeks in-between replies. The phone number is an automated bot who also is useless. Today I managed to actually get through to a human and I was told that the council tax line is only open from 9am-12am Mon-Fri.... so when everyone is at work.

The council itself has closed the local public pool, the beautiful library and I don't think the city centre actually has a 'Citizens Advice Bureau' anymore?

I don't know why I'm on Trustpilot complaining to be honest. Don't move here I guess?

The new Ai answerphone system is not…

The new Ai answerphone system is not fit for purpose. Customer service is a thing of the past in Derby City Council. If your an elderly person with little or no experience of IT then God help you. I have and the systems are frustrating and overly complicated. It is little wonder people get angry and annoyed.
