I have been a client for 4-5 years

I have been a client for 4-5 years. The majority of claims or information required is never simple. The delays are extreme for payment. When calling the centre or writing them, the responses are, we cannot help or require me to do additional actions. Not easy to deal with this company. I have had group insurance with Manulife and Sun Life as well and things were generally all good! This company does not understand Customer Experience!

I sold our house in 2018 and payed off…

I sold our house in 2018 and payed off the mortgage that I had mortgage insurance on. My notoriety notified Canada life that my mortgage was finished and no longer needing the insurance. They continued to charge us tell just a month ago when we sold another property we notice two separate charges from Canada life. After contacting and providing all the documentation they asked for they are still denying a refund from 7 years of over charging us for insurance we canceled. Do not use Canada life they are criminals.

I would give a 0 stars if I could

I would give a 0 stars if I could. There is NO CUSTOMER SERVICE whatsoever at Canada Life. I have made requests to some changes to my life insurance policy MORE THAN 12 times, and they still will not do the changes. I am beyond frustrated with this company.

A very simple process took over 3…

A very simple process took over 3 months to resolve and involved at least 8 different phone responders and I ended up with 3 different case file numbers. You cannot call the same person or extension which is ridiculous. Don't even allow direct calls to the department you need, which makes no sense. I would rather deal with a government office than these people ever again, that's saying a lot.Don't walk away from this company, run as fast as you can and don't look back.It amazes me they're still in business, customer service is absolutely terrible.Would never recommend this company at all

Absolute sham and joke of a company

Absolute sham and joke of a company. I had Canada Life’s handling of my Group Income Protection claim. From August 2024 to February 2025, I was unable to work due to clinical depression, diagnosed by a qualified psychiatrist. Despite providing substantial medical evidence, Canada Life repeatedly rejected my claim in a manner that was unfair and inconsistent.
Initially, they accepted my GP’s fit notes citing “stress at work” but rejected my claim, stating stress wasn’t a clinical illness. After further assessment, my GP issued a revised fit note confirming depression as the reason for my absence, aligning with the psychiatric diagnosis. Shockingly, Canada Life dismissed this revised note as “retrospective” and “advisory,” ignoring its consistency with other evidence. They also discredited my psychiatrist’s diagnosis, claiming her credentials were “unclear”.
The lack of transparency in their decision-making process is deeply concerning. They have not clarified what evidence they relied upon to reject my claim, dismissing all medical documentation when it didn’t fit their narrative. This experience has been frustrating and distressing, and I’ve had to escalate the matter to the Financial Ombudsman Service due to their unfair handling. I strongly caution others considering Canada Life for insurance, as their claims process lacks fairness and accountability.

Stay away

Stay away. I am trying to get my company to switch providers. I pay now 68 bucks every two weeks, no vision coverage, I have to have a colonoscopy and they will not cover the prescribed prep med, every year they raise the premium and blame inflation. Too many issues for me to list. Terrible insurance company.

Lifetime Mortgage Porting Experience

When porting our lifetime mortgage when we moved house we found response times slow both to us and even more so to our solicitors - especially from Canada Life's own solicitors.
Also a disproportionately expensive process - yes the charges are contained obscurely in the terms and conditions but nevertheless a cost of around £1000 to simply transfer the mortgage from one property to another seems very difficult to justify, falling distinctly into the "captive audience" category.

If I could give 0 stars I would

If I could give 0 stars I would. I had life ins and when I went to inquire about it 3 years later every beneficiary was wrong names and all. I made a complaint and their response was well you didn't make a claim so everything is fixed now we will not rectify this in any way. What a horrible company. If something would have happened my family would have had to fight because wrong names. Now when we make a mistake on an application it's fraud but when they do it's ok. Run far far away from this company

If I could give Canada Life 0 stars I would

If I could give Canada Life 0 stars, I would. Horrible company, rude customer service, they’ll do anything they can not to cover your claims. I have legitimately thought about quitting my job to get away from this dishonest and impeccably frustrating company. GO WITH ANY OTHER PROVIDER BUT CANADA LIFE. -1000/5 stars.

Their Goal Is Always To Refuse Claims!

This company is a legal SCAM! They always respond "ineligible" for coverage. This is their response for medications that are on my list of APPROVED drugs!! Then they make me and my Doctor fill out "prior authorization forms".
After 4 weeks of waiting for authorization results, I finally receive an email notification "we've processed your claim. Sign in to your Canada Life account to review explanation of benefits."
There was NO EXPLANATION in my account! 🤷‍♀️🙄 All it said was "Amount eligible $0.00".
So I phoned Canada Life to inquire WHY ineligible? WHY no explanations?
The response, "We have mailed our review of explanation of benefits to you".
IN THE MIDST OF A CANADA POST STRIKE! 🤦‍♀️
I asked the representative on the phone, "why not include this information in my Canada Life account rather than mailing during a strike?
Response: "That is not our process".

I'm retired from Canada Post now after 30 years of service. Hundreds of thousands have been paid by me towards my health and dental benefits over the span of 3 decades.
Myself and children were very fortunate during those years because we were extremely healthy, which is why I rarely needed to submit a claim for drugs. Now in my senior years, my health is not what it used to be. I need a reliable health insurance now more than ever!
Canada Post has switched insurance providers a few times over 30 years. (Manulife, Great West Life, plus more) Canada Life is the WORST OF THEM ALL!!
When a company has offices in secure buildings that won't allow any of it's paying members to visit their offices in person, that kind of makes me think hmmm? 🤨
Too many denied claims maybe?? 🤷‍♀️

Do NOT deal with certain dentists

If you want to pay everything out of pocket first, then submit claim to CL, great company. They refuse to work with dentists, and Dentists require you to pay in full the bill. Then collect money from CL by sumitting a claim. This is horrible customer service. Get with the times and work with companies and not against them CL.

Beware of Canada Life !

Beware of Canada Life !
When I was young I contributed to pension plan many years because my employer matched my contribution. Now I am old, Canada Life lost my contribution record. They have no idea where my money are. So disappointed !!
On April 23, 2025, I brought all my Canada Life statements, my ID to their building located on 330 University Ave, Toronto. I want to solve my issue in person with their adviser. However, the security on the main floor stop me and did no allow me to up the elevator to see their adviser. So unprofessional !!

Canada life cares only about the profits

Although I do have two policies for dental coverage with Canada life, Canada life has refused to pay for the treatment of my daughter. That treatment was done on Nov 2023 but the dental clinic which is Dawson Dental in Guelph, Ontario informed me about the non payment almost one year after the treatment. I immediately followed up with them
by re-sending the claim on Nov 25, 2024 but because of the postal strike, Canada life had claimed that they received the claim after the dead line which was the end of 2024.
I filed appeal twice but it did
Did not work, try to use the ombudsman office at Canada life but they were useless as usual.
Yesterday , Canada life has sent a letter asking Mr to file my complain to " The Joint Insurance Benefits Review Committee".
I will file my third apeal to this new body but my hope started to faint as those giant monsters are formidable blood suckers. I consider myself a victim of the system which had failed me by making me paying $ 777. Both Dawson Dental Clinic and Canada life are the responsible because the former had informed me about the non payment after one year while the latter refused to consider the damage caused by Canada post strike.

This company is really bad

This company is complete crap. I've been waiting since December for a claim. I sent in paperwork four times—either no reply, or they just keep asking for more. This company seems to have a policy of making it so difficult to file a claim that people just give up. I filed a complaint with my employer. Absolutely a terrible benefits provider. Honestly, using the government is much easier, and we pay for EI medical anyway—it’s far less of a hassle to access. Unless you want to stress yourself out even more, don’t use them. For the love of God, I’ve been more stressed dealing with them than with my own medical issues. If I could give a negative rating, I would. Absolutely horrible to deal with.

I won't even get into what a horrible…

I won't even get into what a horrible company this is. That being known, I made sure I was covered for a TENS machine. Multiple emails. Finally I bought one. Im on disability and poor. It was over 400 bucks. The denied me. Said it was an ultrasound machine. I called but cs is rude and useless. I said I can show you pics anything. They said no. They will put in an appeal. Take 6 weeks. I said but you don't want more info so it will be denied. She said ya. We need to take this to the share holders.
