Lack of Response and Poor Claims Support

I am extremely disappointed with my experience submitting a claim through Canada Life benefits, which I pay for through my employer.

After filing my initial claim, I was asked to provide additional documentation. I promptly submitted everything requested and received confirmation that my documents had been received and would be reviewed. However, after an entire month passed with no follow-up or update, I had to reach out again myself.

I resubmitted my request and once again received confirmation that someone would review my claim and respond. Despite this, I still received no communication or resolution.

In an effort to get clarity, I attempted to use the live chat feature. After being greeted by an agent, I was left waiting for over 12 minutes without any response before ultimately closing the chat due to lack of support.

At this point, the lack of communication, follow-through, and basic customer service is unacceptable—especially for a service that I actively pay into. There appears to be no accountability or reliable support system in place to assist clients with their claims.

I would appreciate a prompt review of this situation and a clear explanation as to why there has been such a significant delay and lack of response.

I would rate them lower if I could

I would rate them lower if I could. I started a mortgage disability claim on December 1st 2025. I pay a heavy premium for this insurance. As I live on Vancouver Island, I have no family doctor. I made the claim after my surgery for cancer and seeing that I would have treatments that would last over a year. There are "policies" in place that require going back in my medical history to a workplace accident years ago. I notified them that the clinic that i attended would not reply to the inquiries as it is not in their policy to do so. Here I am 4 months later, still no further ahead. I was told to go to the clinic myself and ask for the information they need. I am currently taking chemotherapy and my energy levels are sporadic at best. It doesn't seem to matter that I am claiming due to my current condition. They want unrelated info because of their " policies." I will be giving up and cancelling my policy with them as they are not customer focused, and seem to be against helping those in need. And I am adding my review to warn others off as there is no help here. I will be bankrupt before I get help, as I warned them I would. Terrible customer service.

Dont waste your money paying into…

Dont waste your money paying into anything through canada life. They will deny your claims despite having loads of evidence and your Dr backing you. You also dont need any education in any healthcare field to assess these claims, just insurance experience. I have more education in this than they do. Top tier scam.

Worst Experience Ever

Warning: Avoid Scotiabank’s mortgage job loss insurance. After paying for coverage, I lost my job in April 2025 and spent an entire month jumping through hoops because they lack a basic online claims portal. They drip-feed requests for forms, wait a week to respond, and ignore secure messages. In the end, they denied my claim because the job loss occurred within 90 days of signing. They are happy to take your money, but when you actually need the protection you paid for, they hide behind fine-print exclusions and a snail-paced process. Extremely disappointed. (Also I am aware I'm posting this in 2026 since I had money to pay the mortgage up until recently and decided to file a claim)

Deny Defend Depose

Like an American healthcare company, they'll do anything to get out of a claim. Purposely poor service, they hope you'll expire so they can pay their shareholders a bonus.

Pay extra for a competitor

Canada Life - Incompetence

Everything went wrong. The entire team is totally incompetent. I asked to escalate the situation, they did not, and would not and it was a sizeable investment, to be playing with incompetent no minds. They had moved my investment to some very very shady organization, without notifying me. When I looked up this company, the scandals and lawsuits were incredible. I was told my investment was no longer there etc etc. NEVER NEVER Deal with Canada LIFE.
They all work from home, so you are not allowed to speak to the same person... It took me 15 months to resolve what is usually about, an hour or two transfer/transaction.
They are all incompetent, and spend hours and hours of your time , jerking you back and forth, and sitting on hold, and verifying yourself 100 times, as you are always dealing with different people. guess they can't afford cel phones.
I hated to have to give them one star. Can we not have and F rating or a pile of garbage rating.
Warn the world about these people.

Third world healthcare

If I could give less than 1 star I would. Totally incompetent Canadian healthcare provider. They are not fit to use the word "Canada" in their title. It should say "third world" instead. My husband had a workplace injury and they will not even direct bill the company he is using for treatment. Totally disgusting outsourced company. NO one even speaks proper English!

This Company discusts me

My husband set up insurance through 'Canada Life" on his line of credit to ensure if anything was ever to happen that I would not be held responsible to pay it off. My husband passed away 1 year ago Jan 6 2025 from a heart attack. I am left having to make monthly payments because this company told me that unless they have proof that my husband any ongoing issues with his health when he signed there papers, that it was void. If my husband had have been told about this before signing there contract, I know for a fact he would never had signed it in the first place!

Problems with dry eyes

Problems with dry eyes for the past 6 months. Had to go to the optometrist urgently 2 times and not a single visit was covered. Visits weren't a big amount (75$ each).
Joke of a company but i'm stuck with them through my employer.
0/10 would not recommend.

Been waiting for my disability for about 2 months

Been waiting for my disability for about 2 month now with no source of income. They take days to answer sometimes, and when they do they always need some sort of extra information. I know insurance companies are usually pretty bad for this but canada life has to be by far the worst insurance experience i have ever had.

The company will always try and rip you…

The company will always try and rip you off preemptively. The employees are horribly incompetent and are not given the proper tools or training to assist customers. I would not recommend anyone provide a single dollar to Canada Life. An unfortunate failure of a company with zero customer orientation.

This is the worst corporation in…

There should be option to give 0 Star because that's what they deserve. This is the worst corporation in Canada. They hold your savings and when the time comes to transfer them to another institution they do everything possible to not give you the money. It's taking me 3 months since I initiated the transfer and I still haven't seen the money. Their staff and customer service are beyond incompetent, they should all be replaced by AI.

Over 1 month and no action still

If I could give 0 stars I would. Submitting monthly claims for orthodontics and they can't even process the claim in a timely matter. Over 1 month and still not being processed. Cakes them and received the run around. Time to contact the big boss at Fabrice.morin @canadalife.com

The log in page required 5 minutes of…

The log in page required 5 minutes of verification that I am not a robot.
Then it logs me out after 10 min in inactivity. Since my insurance is from work place, the system is designed for making it difficult for the individual to log in. This is not verification and security, this is making it difficult for customers to log in.

I have tried to change my advisor for over a year now and each time I call in they say they are going to take care of it. The dept that takes care of this change does not deal w/ clients. Go figure!! This company has the worse customer service, terrible follow up and one dept doesn't know what the other is doing. It's been a year trying to get this sorted. Outrageous!
