Transfer refused.
I applied to open a new account around 7 pm on Monday. I received an email about an hour later confirming that the account was now open and that I could pay into the account. The following day at around 7 am I tried to transfer some money into the account and my bank would not allow the transfer. I tried twice to transfer and on both occasions the transfer was blocked.
Now that I have read all the negative feedback on trustpilot, I've decided not to bother.
Absolutely useless
Absolutely useless! Their website strips off account name characters leading you to think this will amount to a payment problem. Setup payee again still same but small payment goes through so go with the big one and account blocked. I should have known when it also went wrong setting up the account phone number that I shouldn't have bothered but I did and now have to present myself in person to resolve what is their problem!! Never banking with Santander/Cahoot again.
Accounts have been locked
I created a new Day Saver account and deposited money on Wednesday smoothly. However, I am unable to deposit into another new Savings Account. Seems those accounts have been locked. I called customer service and know they are checking without any reason. What the??
FRAUD!
No documents arrived ever. But they keep pushing me to put money into account but I wont ever be able to withdraw it.
I tried to complain but they said they have no complaint department and they said that they wouldn't escalate it anyway as they don't want to. SHAMBLES!!
Almost impossible to close the account
Almost impossible to close the account. They tell you to reply to their message but there is no reply option you have to start again. No-one answers the phone - "call volumes are higher than expected"
I keep moving the last few pence and asking to close the account now it's empty but they take so long it's earned another penny so start again.
Cannot access my account online and…
Cannot access my account online and despite calling at 8am this morning and being told wait time was 3 minutes I hung up after 20! They advise you not to wait but to go online - how is that possible when on line isn’t working?! Totally rubbish - Santander sort this out
What a waste of my time
Cahoot has terribly poor IT systems and business processes. Save your money somewhere else.
My experience: I applied for the Cahoot saver account, it took about a week to receive 2 letters by post with temporary password and security number, managed to login with these, and the system asked me to change them to new numbers. I did. After that I was logged in and could see my dashboard with 0.00 balance, but I decided not to transfer in any money just yet. Decided to try to log out and then back in again to see if it works. And what do you think? The new password and security number DID NOT work! The system simply did not save it. What a joke. Anyway, tried twice or three times and my account got locked - then I used 'forgotten details' option to request new password and security number. The message on the screen said two letters will be posted out to me. (Again!)
Two weeks later - no letters arrived.
I called to Cahoot and asked to close my account. The customer service person confirmed that an account closure letter will be sent to me by post.
Edit: It took exactly two weeks for the letter to arrive by post. It contained two duplicates of the closing account statement and two duplicates of the FSCS information sheet.
Reasonable experience
My fixed rate savings account has matured after one year and everything went well. At the outset I was given help in switching from a sole to a joint account. Whilst a little cumbersome it wasn't too difficult. I also received help with dealing with the balance left behind in the sole account. Overall the experience was reasonable.
Unhelpful, Slow and Painful
Recently set up a savings account to temporarily park a lump sum. Sign up process was very outdated and submitted ID wasn't checked properly but did eventually get logged in to online banking.
A few weeks later I need to withdraw some savings to a new account of mine. This is denied. I explain everything over the phone, they get suspicious and don't get anywhere. Next day I try to transfer to a different older account of mine, succeeds, then immediately blocked. I then phone them up again, explain the situation, answer all their absurd questions. Eventually told to go into local Santander to verify ID, I go there, am told I've been given wrong info. By this point I'm blocked from logging in. Call back go through everything again and am told I have to send in 2 id's photocopied. I send this within a few hours with special delivery.
They receive this the next day, which they confirm. I've called many times since but they keep saying they can't help and I need to wait some unknown amount of time.
Do not give this "bank" any money! I've only been treated with suspicion and had my savings frozen with no recourse except a vague statement that they will process it at some point. Due to simply trying to withdraw funds to my own account.
I've banked with Cahoot since 2000 and…
I've banked with Cahoot since 2000 and earlier this year I received a letter telling me they would no longer be sending account updates by text to me as requested. Now I've tried to log into my account and they won't send me the code via text to access my account either so I have no way of accessing my account. Passive aggressive way of saying they don't want my business I guess?!
Works but old fashioned
I opened a Cahoot savings account and was accepted immediately but had to wait for two letters, from memory one was a temporary user ID and one was a temporary password, if you need an account to open immediately and start saving this one's not for you but just bear this in mind before opening the account, it will be 10 days or so before you can logon and access it.
Once my user ID and my password was set up it's fairly simple to logon if a little bit cumbersome as you need the user ID, 5 digit security number and a mobile one time password which has eight digits which can can all be entered under case.
Once in the account it's the same as Santander as cahoot is part of Santander, the benefit of this account apart from the interest rates is you can send money to other accounts and not just your linked current account also the payments in and out are instant, other than having a lot of patience I think it works as expected for a savings account, hopefully the interest rate will remain competitive but will wait to see on that
Unfortunately, opened a savings account with them
Opened a savings account with them, and subsequently have had so much trouble trying to access my account on line (still haven't to date) I've decided not to trust any of my money with them, and let the account lapse. Haven't made any deposits, not being able to access my account, so no money risked, but the whole experience with Cahoot (UK) has been a total and frustrating waste of my time. My advice, don't risk your money with them.
An Abysmal Financial Services Organisation
A complete waste of space. They provide false and misleading written information. I was provided with a sort code and account number and was informed you can start paying money in. Completely false and untrue; Santander Bangor North Wales Branch tried and failed, so did their fraud team. You are without doubt an abysmal organisation without question. Complaint being sent to Financial Conduct Authority!
The best savings interest rates
They have some of the best available interest rates for savings account with no withdrawal fees. I wish they had an app though and did have some isseus with getting sent codes to login, but overall I was satisfied and reccomend their savings accoutns to my friends and family.
Customers' Account Alerts Removed as a "Business Decision"
I've used cahoot for years, and they've been solid and reliable.
However, I noticed that all the customer specified account alerts have been removed. I messaged cahoot. I received this reply:
"Some alerts are no longer available. From the 12/05/2025 we stopped sending the following alerts to all banking and savings customers:
Balance falls below limit
Deposit greater than a set amount
Debit greater than a set amount
Balance goes above limit
Weekly balance and transactions.
The business has made a decision to remove these as all this can be checked and viewed by actively logging into your online banking.
We will still send alerts that are a regulatory requirement.
We also no longer send email notifications for secure messages.
We would ask that you keep and eye on your secure messages for any replies that you may be awaiting."
I strongly feel that the business has made a stupid and selfish decision that doesn't help customers. They are now totally pushing all responsibility onto customers to check their balances every day. This isn't always convenient.
They have the IT infrastructure in place and are choosing NOT to use it to help customers, eg, alerting them about aspects of their account.
I am concerned that cahoot are no longer a customer-focussed business.
I Have Banked with Cahoot for over 20…
I Have Banked with Cahoot for over 20 Years always had my salary paid in and not one single issue ever,
yes a mobile app would be excellent, but as im on a computer 5 days per week i dont have issues
cannot for the life of me see were everyone is having issues
Tried to open a savings account jointly…
Tried to open a savings account jointly with wife. Completed the online form, was then asked for further imformation which I sent. Then wanted printed copies which I posted to them. After 4 weeks and not hearing from them I rang up. Had a hopeless conversation whereby nobody knew anything. I think I will use Virgin money instead!
Old fashioned and no app
Old fashioned and no app, but decent rates currently.
Tried to open an account most sceptical…
Tried to open an account most sceptical when they wanted the money before I opened it they're asking me a deposit I wanted to make and then asking for the money. They wanted photo ID passport driving licence Which I don't process, I thought it would be easy as they were part of Santander Which I have an account please avoid save yourself some time
