We booked a test drive for a 22‑plate Mini and arrived at the scheduled time. On arrival, no one appeared to be expecting us. We were eventually allocated to a salesman.
He read through the listing on the website but did not seem to know anything about the car. We then went to view it and took it out for a test drive, which was extremely limited — entirely in a 20mph zone and heavy traffic throughout.
On returning to the compound and switching seats, there was a very pungent smell inside the car. At the time, we assumed it was coming from a large transporter unloading nearby. The salesman proceeded with the usual insurance sales pitch and general sales discussion.
He then went to speak with his manager regarding delivery and deposit and returned insisting that if we paid a £500 deposit that day, the car would have to be collected by the following Tuesday at the latest. We were told the car could not be held any longer — even if paid for in full.
The salesman left again and came back to say that the smell was actually coming from the Mini, not the transporter. He said he had no idea what the issue was but that a mechanic was checking it. He agreed to call us the following day with an update.
No call was received the next day. We contacted the salesman using the mobile number he had given us. He told us he was not working until Wednesday, something he had not mentioned during our visit. He also said our name was logged on the CRM system so the car would not be sold to anyone else.
We received no further contact. When we rang again later in the week, we were told that sales staff should never give out their mobile numbers. Again, no one called us back.
It has now been nine days since our visit. We have called no fewer than eight times, with no return calls. When we called again today, we were told the car had been repaired, but no one could explain what the issue was or how it had been fixed.
We were repeatedly told that the dealership is “very busy” and that someone would try to call us back. This level of service and lack of communication is completely unacceptable. We have never experienced anything like it.
A car is typically one of the most expensive purchases a person will make, so buyers should be cautious. The past nine days have been extremely frustrating. If this is the standard of service during the sales process, it raises serious concerns about after‑sales support. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this company or this branch.

Bought a VW Golf. The car wasn't cleaned well, fuel level was at minimum when they handed it over to me and I arrived home only to finally discover that they had mixed different brand tyres on the back axle, which apparently is not illegal but can be a safety hazard in terms of braking stability -- as different manufacturers use rubber with different physical properties.

🚨‼️❌❌Strongly Not Recommended
Service was acceptable until the purchase was completed—after that, completely unresponsive. I am trying to cancel a £3,000 warranty within the 14-day cooling-off period, but my requests are being ignored.
The car was handed over in an unacceptable condition (unclean inside), and no proper handover or explanation of features was provided.
Repeated visits and long waiting times have led to no resolution. This feels like deliberate delay to avoid responsibility.
Very poor customer service. Avoid.
AVOID

Was a really positive no pressure environment with a great selection of cars and an easy way to evaluate models against one another. Also the drinks bar probably helped the children last an extra hour while browsing.

We bought a 2 year old car From Big Motoring World and the clutch has already gone!
Car has driven 34,000 in total, with us only driving it for just over 10,000 miles, and we are looking at a costly repair for a new clutch which should last for over 100,000 miles!.
Still awaiting feedback from the Warranty, which should have been 48 hours feedback, so far its been 2 weeks!

Tayla prepped all of the forms, tax etcetera and went through each area taking me through what she had done. Fantastic for me as I struggle with forms. She was relaxed but professional with an experienced, polished professional vibe.

Extremely disappointed with Big Motoring World. I discovered that the vehicle I placed a deposit on had an outstanding safety recall. The dealership promised they would complete the recall before I collected the car, but after waiting for a month, I was informed that parts would not be available until August 2026.
The dealership then wrote me an email setting a deadline for me to decide whether to proceed or receive a refund. I replied 18 hours before that deadline, requesting written confirmation of the vehicle’s safety to ensure my insurance would be valid. I also explicitly stated that if the deal did not proceed, both the £500 deposit and the £129 transport fee must be refunded.
Instead of replying to my email or addressing my safety concerns, the dealership failed to respond and unilaterally re-listed the vehicle on Auto Trader before the deadline had even passed.
They have since refunded my £500 deposit but are unfairly withholding the £129 transport fee. It is completely unacceptable to charge a customer transport fees for a vehicle with an unaddressed safety recall. They effectively cancelled the deal themselves by re-marketing the car while I was waiting for their answers.
Now I have to contact my bank and request chargeback for £129.
If you are looking for a transparent and professional car-buying experience, look elsewhere.

I purchased a car from Big Motoring World Wimbledon in February. I waited for 45 to be seen, even though I had booked an appointment. While I was waiting, there were about 6 sales people wondering round and chatting to other colleagues. Not once did someone come over and see to me, I even asked the man on reception how long it would be and every time I was told 5 minutes. The salesman who approached us, took me to the car I was due to test drive and didn’t even know how to turn it on, told me it didn’t have apple car play and had no knowledge of the battery health. The ‘sales’ element was non existent.
Once I had found a car I liked, I asked to proceed the process and then all of a sudden the salesman came alive trying to sell me the extended warranty. I had to repeat myself 3 times saying I wasn’t interested. It was a good job I had done my own research on what I needed and was a good deal.
2 months after purchasing the car, I’ve had a fault come up. With the extended warranty you get as part of the purchase, I have made a claim and I am STILL waiting to hear back. Thank goodness I didn’t purchase it!
Luckily I knew what I was searching for when going in but I can imagine for someone who is just browsing the whole experience would have been a let down and frustrating.
I wouldn’t use big motoring world again in the future.

Honestly, this is one of the worst dealerships I’ve ever dealt with. They’ve been lying and misleading since day one — especially about the finance agreement. The salesman kept pushing add-on products even after I repeatedly said no. Absolutely relentless and annoying.
The finance guy? I could barely understand a word he said — he speaks so quietly it’s impossible to follow anything.
They claim to do a “200-point check” before selling, but the very next day the car’s keypad battery died. I paid £3,000 extra for their warranty and still had to wait an entire week just to get a useless update from after-sales. In the end, I fixed it myself after watching YouTube.
And to top it off, I’m still waiting for my spare key — nearly three months now. The branch has had the key and service book for over two months but keeps blaming being “understaffed.” Two months to post a key? It’s beyond ridiculous.
