Bigbank biedt in Nederland sinds januari 2012 via internet spaardeposito’s aan voor particulieren met looptijden van 1 tot en met 7 jaar en 10 jaar. De rentetarieven behoren tot de beste in de Nederlandse markt. De rente wordt jaarlijks uitgekeerd en er worden geen servicekosten berekend. Nederlandse klanten kunnen telefonisch of per e-mail met vragen terecht bij de Nederlandstalige helpdesk. De deposito’s van Bigbank vallen onder garantiestelsel in Estland. Dat is net als het Nederlandse garantiestelsel gebaseerd op de EU-richtlijn. Deposito’s worden onder het garantiestelsel gegarandeerd tot een bedrag van EUR 100.000 per klant, inclusief de rente. De stabiele financiële resultaten van Bigbank tonen aan dat het bedrijfsmodel van de bank solide en economisch duurzaam is. In het kader van de verzwaarde kapitaaleisen voor banken zoals die zijn vastgelegd in de richtlijn Basel III, moeten Europese banken een kapitaalbuffer hebben van tenminste 8 procent. Het kapitaal van Bigbank is bijna driemaal zo hoog en daarmee heeft de bank een zeer stevige basis. Estland, het thuisland van Bigbank, is lid van de Europese Unie en is een euroland. De economie is een van de best presterende in de Europese Unie.

We just had a young man by the door…terrible experience

We just had a young man by the door with an absolute terrible attitude, I asked for identification and the code and he became instantly put out. We then asked him in where my husband asked him a question but he was thrown over our snack table and kept his head down, my husband had to ask him twice a question, I then was not happy and asked him what the attitude was and he stormed out telling me that I had a grote bek and zoek het uit. What an unprofessional and terrible experience, you are looking to lodge money to this company and this is what comes to your door, needless to say no interest now in this company.

The only benefit of Big bank is its…

The only benefit of Big bank is its high interest rate compared to other banks. But that comes at the expenses of a lengthy KYC process, no mobile app, no physical branch, and background check that requested more documents than other local Dutch banks.

The KYC/customer verification process…

The KYC/customer verification process is HORRIBLE. It is done by AMP partner but I don't care since the bank has chosen those unprofessional people itself.

I have never faced such an unprofessional service in my life!

The person who was supposed to check the documents came to me to check my residence permit ID. After he saw that it is a Dutch residence permit and not an European card/passport he said he will go to get his phone to call someone in the car and he promised to be back in a few seconds. He got to his car and then just ran away without saying anything! I was first thinking he wanted just to repark his car but he just left without even coming back to me and saying anything and I was waiting for him. I tried to call him but he had only a voice mail and of course he did not pick the phone or call me back.

So much problems and troubles just to SIMPLY open a saving account! None of the Dutch banks have such process like Bigbank! Very disappointed!

UPDATED AFTER THE ANSWER:

Honestly, that is not only the fault of your AMP Groep partner. That is your fault as well.

Prior making the appointment for the ID verification I sent to you my Dutch permanent residence card and you accepted it. The Dutch permanent resident permit has absolutely the same strength and values as the Dutch citizenship in all aspects of living in the Netherlands such as having jobs, financial services, travelling within Europe, mortgage, bank accounts etc. Absolutely equal. The only thing is that you can't vote for Parliament and those sort of things.

So would you be so kind as to explain to me how it is possible to first accept the document and then reject it because it is not an European passport? What documents do you need else from expat people as the Dutch permanent resident permit is the only thing an expat can have? As far as I am aware the Netherlands is within the European Union.

If you do distinguish and discriminate on the passport level why not to CLEARLY state it on your website that you want to have ONLY customers from European passports? It will save so much time for all expats who live and work in the Netherlands so that they will not bother you in the first place in opening any account.

We apologize for your negative experience with our identification partner. Bigbank finds behaviour you've described in your review to be unacceptable. It is highly uncommon for an employee of our partner to leave a customer without a scan of the identification document or without saying a word.
We have contacted the AMP Groep for further explanation to the behaviour of their employee.

The reason we request our customers to go through the identification process, is because of the strict rules of the Estonian law. Since we are an Estonian bank, we need to adhere to to these rules and therefor have a different registration process than you might find with many Dutch banks.
