Pros and cons of Better UK and Wantage Leisure Centre
At present the facilities in Wantage Leisure Centre run by Better UK are in need of refurbishment, especially the showers, toilets and lockers. The IT (website and App) could be more user-friendly when you are first setting up or amending your membership, e.g. the wording is sometimes ambiguous, some options are hard to find and the website and App do not seem to communicate which can lead to conflicting membership numbers and passwords. That said, after the problems of initial set up, the IT generally works well. Also, the pool is good and is well maintained. The staff are generally friendly and helpful and when I raised queries about the IT the response was helpful and reasonably prompt.

I've been a member for years. Staff have always been helpful. They have recently started having a receptionist back on reception which has been great. Not sure why they stopped having someone on reception.
I've seen they are also looking to invest in the building this year which is amazing. Well overdue!

Lovely staff, changing is not good
The staff are lovely. The gym is on the small side but seems well enough equipped. But the changing is virtually non-existent/dirty and badly in need of refurbishment. I suspect its a bit of a vicious cycle as a refurb would be costly, but they must be losing revenue because they badly need a refurb...

Good tutors, especially those teaching spin and gym classes.
More capacity for pickleball in the sports hall would be welcome. This sport is becoming more and more popular and the drop in sessions are generally over-subscribed.
The gym has been renovated very well and I'm glad that they're installing more sustainable energy systems. The loos and swimming changing facilities are still very scruffy, however. Hopefully they're in line for refurbishment soon. Sharing the facilities with the school limits daytime availability (notably hall use and showers).

Foundation Swimming Lessons
I booked foundation swimming lessons for my 4 year old. The teachers are lovely but drop off is very chaotic at the start of the lesson and at the end. There is a pool cover that completely blocks line of sight from the viewing area down to the shallow end of the pool where the newest swimmers are, the swimmers parents are most keen to keep an eye on! There is also absolutely no rewards system for the children to acknowledge and celebrate their progress. Other BETTER Swimming providers use coloured swim hats when children achieve their milestones. Even a certificate or woven badge would be something to encourage the children to strive for their next achievement.

Different stage caps are available, but may be out of stock - please speak to a member of the concierge team so they can assist you with this.
We also do offer certificates and medals, the certificates are free if you would like a digital copy and if you would like a physical copy or medal these can be purchased for a small fee at reception. Please note; the medals are not available everywhere just yet, as we are currently rolling this out.

Booking systems need modernising
Booking system on app is painfully bad. It’s not intuitive to find existing bookings. Having to manually check in at reception for each class is also very old fashioned. Why can’t it be automated like at other centres?

I attended the Menopause event at the centre last night.
I throughly enjoyed the chair Aerobics which was run by Finnley. I recommend all of his classes.
The talk on Mental Health really helped and was so interesting.

The staff are always friendly and helpful. The facilities are well cared for.
I love the menopause events, it is great to have a place to talk about women's mental and physical well-being. This is a fantastic initiative.

Fantastic kids swimming lessons- ongoing
We have been extremely happy with the services and support offered at the Wantage leisure centre.
Watching how the team with the kids at the swimming lessons- they offer not just their expertise, but fantastic personable interaction.
The whole centre has a welcoming feeling to it- and is undergoing some modernisation

The staff are helpful and friendly. Whilst the site may be old, the staff put lots of effort into maintaining it. Additionally, there seems to be a lot of improvements taking place.

Great staff
Great staff, enthusiastic, friendly and helpful. I’ve just joined and been to a few classes, swimming and a gym induction. The pool was lovely and warm, the gym induction very good and the class instructors very friendly and professional. Apart from the gym which is brand new, the facilities could definitely do with updating, the showers for example are not really fit for purpose but I’m hoping the whole place can get a deserved facelift soon. Very pleased to have joined though.

I have been going to this centre since I was little. Lovely staff and great facilities. Have always been a fan of their pool and the swimming sessions they offer. Would also like to mention their gym and the fitness classes that are provided by Finley. He had great customer service along with many of the other staff.
