Staff was great

Staff was great, but the car was not in the best technical condition. I was afraid to go over 90km/h on highway, it felt like it is dismantling and it had errors on the dashboard so I was feeling like at some point I will end up on the side of the road with a broken car.

Absolutely outstanding service

Absolutely outstanding service! As a tourist visiting Naples, I couldn’t have asked for a better car rental experience. The staff were exceptionally kind, professional, and welcoming from the moment I arrived.

What impressed me the most was how incredibly fast everything was—I had my rental car ready in less than 10 minutes! The entire process was smooth, efficient, and completely stress-free.

The car was spotless, in perfect condition, and exactly what I had booked. Thanks to their excellent service, I was able to start exploring Naples right away without wasting any time.

I highly recommend this company to anyone visiting Naples. Friendly staff, fast service, great cars, and a truly professional team. I will definitely choose them again the next time I visit. Thank you for such a wonderful experience!

I was very disappointed with my…

I was very disappointed with my experience.

On 30 June 2026, about 30 km after picking up my rental car, I realized that the air conditioning was not working. In the middle of summer, this is not a minor issue. I had no choice but to drive all the way back to the rental office to exchange the vehicle.

Although the car was replaced, I was still charged €17 for the fuel used in the defective vehicle. Because of the company's faulty car, I had to drive an additional 60 km and lost around 3 hours of my day. I believe customers should not have to pay for fuel or incur extra costs when the vehicle they receive has a mechanical problem.

What disappointed me the most was the lack of customer support. Instead of taking responsibility for the inconvenience, I was left covering costs caused by a vehicle that should have been in proper working condition before it was rented out.

The replacement vehicle was fine, but the way this situation was handled fell well below my expectations. I hope the company improves both its vehicle inspections and its customer service.

As soon as you returned to our office, our team worked to resolve the issue as quickly as possible by providing you with a replacement vehicle so that you could continue your journey with minimal further disruption.

Regarding the fuel charge, our rentals operate under a full-to-full fuel policy, which is clearly outlined in our Terms and Conditions. This means that customers are responsible for the fuel used during their rental, including the distance driven before the vehicle was exchanged.

That said, we did recognize the time you lost returning to our office. As a gesture of goodwill, we allowed you to return the replacement vehicle approximately three hours later than your original booking end time at no additional cost. We hoped this complimentary extension would help compensate for the inconvenience caused.

We appreciate your comments, as they help us continue improving our service. While mechanical issues can occasionally occur despite our inspection procedures.

We hope we will have the opportunity to provide you with a better experience in the future.

Please be very wary of this company!

The worst experience I have ever had hiring a car.

I picked up the vehicle from Naples train station and after driving for a few hours that day I realised they had given me a car with damage on the metal alloy in the tyre. As I was looking at the damage I was approached by a police man who informed me that the damage was very serious and unsafe to drive on, he therefore escorted me to Automanias head office but no one was there - it was 9:45pm. The police officer tried to call the office but no one answered. He therefore told us to drive extremely safely back to our accommodation, and to call automania imminently the next day.

After calling them they agreed the damage existed prior to collecting the car, but assured me that it was fine. They were extremely patronising, but alas I listened and got on with my day, even though the car felt strange when I was driving it. "Madam if the tyre isnt flat, everything is under control"

I woke up the next day and the tyre was flat. Because of this I missed an experience I was really looking forward to worth £60 in tickets. They just told me to change the tyre to the spare one in the boot, no support further than that. The tyre was a really small one, only meant for short journeys e.g. to the garage - and was quite deflated anyway.

They eventually told me I could drop the car off and get a new one but it would've taken me 3 hours to do that, 3 hours out of my day because they gave me a damaged car! I decided I would wait another day, not use the car I was paying for because it didn't feel safe, and drive slowly back to the office the next day.

Frankly they were extremely rude. I was incredibly upset with the lack of support I received. I was told I would receive a refund but I never did and I have been in engagement with them prior and they have been nothing but rude.

I just want to say as well, after investigating Italian laws regarding car safety the car did not uphold to the standards. I also did a background search on the car to see when it was last serviced and it appeared it had not been documented has having been inspected since before 2018 (using the Il Portale dell'Automobilista). In Italy you need to have it inspected every 2 years. The car they gave me was dangerous, it was lucky that the tyre became flat when we were not driving on the motorway or windy roads.

I will say there was one lady who was very helpful about the situation, I am grateful for the support she provided. However after dropping the car off I have been receiving correspondence from another individual who has been passive aggressive and unhelpful.

My main concern is not the inconvenience or the missed excursion—it is that this company knowingly instructed me to continue driving a vehicle after I had reported damage that a police officer had described as unsafe. In my view, that decision put my family and other road users at unnecessary risk. I have all the documentation of the damage and my communications with this company, I really hope they will review their safety procedures to keep others safe.

Please be wary of this company, even though it is cheap it is not worth it. The stress and anxiety this caused me and my family was so unnecessary on what was supposed to be a fun holiday. I really hope sharing my experience will stop other people from being placed in dangerous situations.

First of all, we would like to clarify that the member of our team who assisted you by phone did everything possible to help you throughout the situation. Understanding how distressed you were, she also made an exception and allowed you to return the vehicle to a different rental location at no additional charge. This was offered as a gesture of goodwill to reduce the inconvenience you experienced.

At Automania, the safety of our customers is our highest priority. We strongly reject any suggestion that we knowingly rent unsafe vehicles. All of our vehicles are regularly inspected, maintained, and carefully prepared before every rental in accordance with the legal requirements applicable to rental companies.

We would also like to clarify the statement regarding the vehicle's inspection history. Our fleet consists almost entirely of vehicles that are less than three years old. The vehicle you rented was purchased brand new at the end of 2024. Under Italian law, a brand-new vehicle is required to undergo its first mandatory roadworthiness inspection ("revisione") only after four years from its first registration. As this vehicle has not yet reached four years of age, it is entirely normal that no inspection record appears on the public website you consulted. This does not indicate that the vehicle was not maintained or that it was operating outside the law.

When you contacted us, our team assessed the information provided and remained available to assist you. Once it became clear that the tyre required replacement, we offered you the option of exchanging the vehicle. We appreciate that returning to one of our locations was inconvenient, which is precisely why we also accommodated your request to return the vehicle to a different office without any additional fee.

We regret that you felt our communication was not as empathetic as it should have been. This is certainly not the level of service we strive to provide, and we will review your comments internally to ensure we continue improving both our customer care and our communication.

We appreciate you acknowledging the support provided by our team member, and we remain committed to offering a transparent, efficient, and reliable rental experience.

Security deposit took one month to get unblocked

on June 8th I have rented a car in Napoli and returned it without any issues on June 12th. Unfortunately, until today the blocked 700,- security deposit did not get back to me, and is still blocked in my credit card account. Moreover, I got charged one cent after all.

Regarding the security deposit, we would like to clarify that once the vehicle is returned and all checks have been completed, we release the pre-authorisation from our POS system. To process this release, the payment system requires a transaction of €0.01, as this is the minimum amount permitted by the provider. This one-cent charge is therefore part of the technical procedure used to unblock the security deposit and is not an additional rental fee.

Please note that after we release the pre-authorisation, the time it takes for the blocked amount to disappear from your account depends entirely on your bank or credit card issuer. While many banks release the funds within a few days, others may take longer to process the release.

If the €700 pre-authorisation is still showing as blocked, we recommend contacting your card issuer, as they will be able to confirm the status of the release on their end. Should you require any documentation from us, we will be happy to assist.

We had an excellent experience

We had an excellent experience with Automania! We rented a car from them in Bari during our trip to Italy, and everything exceeded our expectations.

Although we had booked a Golf-sized car, we were pleasantly surprised to receive a Volkswagen Taigo at no extra cost. The staff were incredibly friendly, helpful, and professional throughout the entire process. The car was in perfect condition and made our trip even more enjoyable.

What impressed us the most happened after we returned the car. We accidentally left our child’s headphones inside, and the team kindly brought them to us at Bari Airport without hesitation. That level of customer service is truly exceptional and speaks volumes about the company.

We will definitely rent from Automania again the next time we’re in Italy. Highly recommended!

I still have not received the refund of the guarantee. The guarantee was charged to my Visa, and a refund via Visa should be immediate.
