Alton towers is still a fun day out, but it’s definitely not what it used to be. The ticket prices are really high now, and once you’re in the queue times are horrendous. We spent most of the day stan... See more

What has gone wrong with Alton Towers
What has gone wrong with Alton Towers? Hardly any rides were open and because of this, the other rides had 90+min queues
Spent the day at Alton towers which was…
Spent the day at Alton towers which was good but bought two hoodies from one of the shops & on arrival back at our hotel realised the security tags had not been removed. Emailed the park retail department to try and resolve the issue as I have now left the country but left the tops with a family member. No response. So £130 wasted.
Won’t be back thanks to Ben in CBeebies cafe!
Been here so many times, when is torrential rain they have always allowed you into the cafe to eat, bear in mind the park wasn’t busy as was pouring down and mid week when schools back, so the cafe wasn’t overflowing. And as say, previous years have always had the assurance that can use indoor cafe facilities in CBeebies land when is awful weather.
after we had been seated and ordered £20 worth of items, two hot drinks, a small cup with chips in and one corn on cob cut into 3 to make it look bigger 🙄 We got told by the girl who manager had clearly sent over that can’t take own food in, we told the girl that we had spent in the cafe feeling should this time and she said oh that’ll be ok then, I’ll just check, she didn’t come back so we assumed all was good and carried on. Bear in mind we had a cheese sandwich each.
Next thing their snotty attitude filled manager named ‘Ben’ (has blue hair tints) came over and nastily told us ‘I am going to have to ask you to immediately leave the premises as you are not allowed your own food in here’ this came as a shock as the girl had said would check and hadn’t returned, it had been fifteen minutes since then. His attitude to throw us out was ridiculous, nobody had asked us to put our food away, if they had we would have asked where the nearest covered eating area is and also cancelled the food.
I would like to ask Ben why his blatantly obviously friend was allowed to sit eating own food right where kitchen door entrance are, he was stood talking to them for quite some time and others were asked to put food away and only eat theirs, a few left, one couple stayed and clearly felt shamed to order, we were the only ones asked to leave, blatant targeting but made sure got their money first!!!
When I said to Ben that we’ve always come in here when raining and staff actively asked you in when bad, he said well that was previous years wasn’t it, this is this year, so leave, absolutely full of attitude, he frightened my 3 year old granddaughter who once outside started to cry and asked why can’t sit and if she had been naughty, completely unforgivable to FRIGHTEN A THREE YEAR OLD CHILD and make her feel she’d done something wrong, the only thing wrong was bens attitude.
Clearly inflated attitude as was sending the girls out who were clearly uncomfortable to ask others to pack up, note they got told to pack up not get out, was it because we brought up other years been ok as his explosion at that comment and attitude were ridiculous.
when we said but we have got hot drinks in proper cups he got some takeaway cups and slammed them down and said ‘there, now go’
I will never forgive your disgusting manager for upsetting my granddaughter, she still thinks she did something wrong and when asked if wants to go back she started crying and shaking her head, it’s been days, it has left a lasting mark, thanks for ruining her visit, she was so quiet the rest of our visit despite us telling her the only one doing wrong was Ben.
If changed the rules, put signs up or maybe not have the outside seats stacked so can’t be used?! Where do you expect us to eat, there is no proper covered area, we went to one near the wicker man but it’s exposed at sides and was blowing so bad she was shaking cold!!
She didn’t even want to walk back to the shop as was near the cafe, his attitude really frightened her, does Ben feel big, scaring a 3 year old.
A couple with an autistic son were not allowed in, despite explaining his autism and that they wanted to eat in there but he’d have to eat his packed food, they were absolutely soaked and turfed away, beyond a joke.
You are stating allergens but as someone who works in the food industry if you’re bothered about allergens then maybe try these….
Staff should have hairnets on, can’t risk a cheese sandwich which you sell anyway and we have wrapped but hairs in food no problem at all.
Aprons should be worn.
Non-slip footwear should be on.
Hand washing should happen between handling each and every ingredient, I watched this kitchen and this absolutely did not happen. So if you got a cheese potato that smelt like tuna, there’s a reason.
Wipe tables down, your friends table didn’t get wiped down so whatever ate was stuck to it, if you’re bothered about allergens maybe act like it.
There is no signs on the door to state own food isn’t allowed, I contacted the EHO and sent video in of zero hand washing and they said all need is clear signs saying in bad weather people can bring own food so be aware allergens may be present.
We were going to get annual passes am so glad this happened before wasted my money, go to sundown Adventureland guys, completely child friendly and have a massive indoor picnic area too, unlike here they care about comfort of their guests.
Alton Towers Killed My Grandpa
My grandpa was on a ride with some young vagabonds when he was jumped and robbed of all his shillings. I have bad intentions to feed their cattle with pure vibranium. Sadly my grandpa perished from severe PTSD from the mugging. today I shall take this hooligans to the court of law and show them who is really in charge.
Yesterday I went to my grandfather's funeral and paid my respects but I had to pay extra for morgue premium. Alton Towers should be completely accountable for allowing these rapscallions into their park. The staff are horrid. Please sack them. I will sue
Utterly lamentable
Utterly lamentable. Pitched up on spec on last Sunday morning, fuelled by happier childhood memories. Car park door-bangingly tight, signage useless and a 1k walk to the entrance that fulfils your 10,000 steps for the day. Once there the touch-screens are disabled, the crappy app can't be read in the sunshine and there's a queue at the ticket office for an eye-watering set of tickets.
Once inside the power promptly failed but there's no info either because the PA goes with it, so lucky we got that from a passing gardener as the app is no help either aside from telling you nothing is working.
We were passed from pillar to post during the subs hour trying for a refund before being conned by a manager in the 'Guest Services' ~ yeah right ~ into thinking we'd some sort of refund that to date is yet to arrive and likely never will.
Follow my struggles for compensation at the teledrone blogspot if you wish, and I'd suggesting paying by Visa so it can be cancelled at source... screwing them before they do you.
Battle Galleons ride is an absolute…
Battle Galleons ride is an absolute joke. They have removed all the cannons on the boats so you just sit there going round while other people pay to spray you, and I expect they then expect you to pay to dry yourself. Absolutely fuming.
Lack of Health and safety
This is the email I have sent to the CEO of Merlin.
I write to you in total disgust to our visit at Alton towers yesterday.
There was no regard for health and safety in this extreme the extreme heat of approx 30C .
My niece at around 15.15pm yesterday she used her fast track pass to go onto Wickerman and once she had handed in her back pack which contained her mobile phone and water she and approximately 50 other guests were taking into the waiting I call a holding room before you board the train.
She boarded a train which had issues so everyone was once again asked to get off the train and go back into the room.
The park decided to bring another train into operation which took almost 30 minutes and while this was going on they were in this room with no windows or fans or air conditioning, everyone was getting very hot and sweaty.
After the train was brought into operation the ride once again went tech and they were still in there for upto another 30 minutes. A few people asked if they could leave and the staff member said he couldn't let anyone out, eventually after approximately 30 minutes they were let out and my niece came out very distressed and feeling faint and very upset.
How can this be allowed to happen especially in the very hot conditions.
After she had calmed down and had plenty of water we went to guest services to complain and all they said was they were very sorry and all they can offer was a complimentary fast track to compensate.
Totally not interested in the health and safety as my niece could have passed out and myself and her mum were very concerned as were trying to contact her but obviously she didn't have her phone with her as it was in the backpack which was in the locker.
Due to this incident we left the park and our long planned trip ended. There were also 2 other rides not working all-day, one was Rita which we were looking forward too, the sky train was out of action which was ridiculous and nothing on your website to state this. I paid around £360 for the 3 off us for a very disappointing day, I asked for a refund of our fast track passes but were refused.
I have filled in a complaint form and apparently the management will be investigating and was told I will hear back within 7 days.
Our daughter was injured on a park attraction, the staff did not seem to care.
Nice water park, the accommodation was really mediocre, one of the rides was out of service.
However, the real reason for the 3 stars is the way the park handled the injury caused on one of the attractions to my 2 year old daughter.
She was walking up the stairs to one of the water slides with me directly behind her, when a huge pale of water came crashing down from a significant height with no warning. The force of this completely flattened her and she banged her face on the steps causing a bruised head and cheek. I reported this to management as I did not want this happening to anyone else. I backed this up with an email but never received avresponse.
I find this inexcusable.
Went today and it was good
Went today. Was really good. Didn’t wait more than a few minutes to get on the rides. However a couple of moans. First when we got there we wanted a coffee. To order there are no staff just machines. You put in your order, go to pay, machine says sorry error and shuts down. So that was frustrating after a long drive. Also I think you should get a land train as everything is far away and steep to walk to. I enjoyed it and will be back but the coffee thing and all the walking I was exhausted.
Waste of money.
Waste of money.
* C'mon.......closing at 4pm!!!
I asked a member of staff why, they stated because the park wasn't at peak time, despite 100's of people on rides & walking around. We were all ushered towards the exit with many grumbles about the early closing falling on deaf ears.
* £15 for parking!!! 😠
* Food prices a joke....£17.50 pizza, £19 burger, £12 jacket potato, £9.50 loaded fries, £5 coffee
* Many smaller attractions closed.
* We paid £30 for the unlimited photo's download to find we couldn't access the QR code plus a couple of rides the camera wasn't working. The guy in the main customer service area stated we wouldn't get a refund but did manage to locate some pics.
Paid £98 for the full day in the main…
Paid £98 for the full day in the main theme park. The fast track was ridiculously priced at £170 each so that would have been £450 in total. Wasn’t that busy. Spent on average of 1 hr in each queue. Ppl were using single person ride and large groups fast tracking especially teenagers. Where did they get the money from? Some queues weren’t even checked for fast track tickets. Some of the raids were also inoperable such as the rapids. Gold train and a few others. I don’t believe people will have paid £170 plus their ticket price of £68 especially the young kids.
All in all we managed to get on six rides all day six hours queueing and about 10 minutes on the rides.
To top it all they then charged me £15 for parking and they sent me to the car park in which they directed me to so I had to pay it. Meals were very expensive and £18 for a refillable drink is absolutely extortionate. All in all £143 lighter I wouldn’t recommend it and I certainly won’t be in a rush to go back
The staff are very welcoming
The staff are very welcoming, especially the guy on the front of house made the whole family feel welcome and remembered names after a short visit, we stayed in a themed room splash room 504, the room itself felt little dated could do with a full refurb, no lock on bathroom door,no usb plug sockets, feel the tv should be on wall incase kids push it etc, kids loved the room, ohh and getting in and out of the bed feels like trying to get out of a bath, i guess thats the idea! Found the restaurant doesn't have a vast amount of choices from but food was good and again the staff are fantastic. Are day was sort of rushed due to planning swim time ( be good if opened later when park shut)when we arrived around 11ish couldn't find parking space near our hotel !again the staff provided us with the vip parking no etc cost.. all together it was a good stay, breakfast was an all u can eat buffet ( tip wait for the fresh food to be bought out) eat way to much my own doing cant blame alton towers for that 🤣🤣 worth the visit👍
19.50 for a burger is pure exploitation.

After going for my sisters birthday…
After going for my sisters birthday yesterday, the place was okay however considering it was a bank holiday and a fairly sunny day , the Congo river rapids the battle galleons and the skyride was off. For a bank holiday there was no real events taking place other then a facepainting booth. The food Is overpriced £11 for 10 sugar donuts . Average for the prices they charge.
Visited last month and when paying for…
Visited last month and when paying for food it declined my card, paid with another card but after a few days they took the money from me. Lady at the desk said it had been happening all morning. Contacted customer service who said someone would be in touch which took 2 weeks. Gave them all the details all the proof and still they blank me.
Horrendous experience
Horrendous experience. Came here from Ireland with my non verbal autistic son. Have autism Asiam card in addition to all documentation from consultant etc. No provisions made whatsoever. Nobody to help. Would never come here again. Have been to Disney, portaventura, tayto park with no issues. Shocking.
Had a great day today
Had a great day today, managed to get on all the main rides, several small attractions and a few rerides. Yes it's not cheap, but nothing is these days. Alton towers absolutely made the right decision with RAP. To many people who were genuinely able to queue were taking advantage, making it a miserable day last year for the people who have to queue, only for half of each train being taken up by people who could probably stand in line like the rest of us. I understand that some people genuinely need this for their conditions and I am happy to wait a bit longer if it helps these people. But not for the many people who dont really need it. Good job Towers, keep it up
I literally hate this place after going…
I literally hate this place after going with my 6 year old daughter 8 year old nephew and 3 teenagers 13-17. Biggest waste of money. The waiting times are ridiculous, 90 mins wait at least for every single ride in the park. I couldn't work out if this is normal or did I just pick a bad day to go.
The teens went on 2 rides all day.
Alton Towers is dirty, outdated and has no modern process for queuing. Like a buzzer you collect from the rollercoaster and buzzes for you to come back when its your turn, like LEGO LAND.
This place is day light robbery in every way. Anyone who likes this place has low standards, period.
Drayton Manor is much better. You actually get to go on all the rides in 1 day.
I had great memories of this place as a child and wanted my daughter to experience it but how times have changed. This place is a disaster.
After customers have lost limbs and nearly died on some of the rides you would think the pricing would be humble. Alton Towers is arrogant. Thinks it is better than it really is.
